According to MLBlogs.com, the Chicago Cubs have signed pitcher Casey Fossum to a Minor League contract. He has reported to Triple-A Iowa to start his Cubs' career.

Our View:Fossum opted out of his contract with the Yankees a few weeks ago, so now he gets a fresh start with the Cubbies. He doesn't figure to have any fantasy value this season, and this move doesn't affect that much.

The Times-Tribune is reporting that pitcher Casey Fossum has exercised an out in his contract and opted to become a free agent. Fossum was pitching with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, and was was 12th in the International League in ERA.

Our View:Fossum had been pitching well for the Yankees (Triple-A version), but he knows that there is little opportunity in New York for his advancement. He may get some looks on the free agent market, but it would be a long shot that he would have any fantasy value this season.

The Yankees have signed pitcher Casey Fossum. He will start on Saturday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Scranton Times Tribune reports.

Our View:Fossum is no more than organizational depth. He has no fantasy value.
April 30, 2009
Casey Fossum has opted for free agency instead of accepting a minor league assignment to Triple-A Buffalo, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:The lefty should be able to find work with another MLB club in need of bullpen depth.

According to Newsday, the Mets designated Casey Fossum for assignment on Sunday after their loss to the Nationals.

Our View:Fossum didn't pitch that poorly: one run in 3.1 inning with four strikeouts. He was likely demoted because the Mets wanted to call up 40-year old Japanese reliever Ken Takahashi.
