Player Notes
July 3, 2009
Rodrigo Lopez earned his first win since 2007 on Friday night with a 7-2 victory over the Mets. He allowed just two earned runs on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings.

Our View:Lopez was called up today to make the start, and he ended up making an impression as well. He's filling in for the injured Antonio Bastardo, but a few more starts like this and he could take Bastrado's job away from him.
July 3, 2009
According to the Associated Press, the Phillies have recalled pitcher Rodrigo Lopez from Triple-A.

Our View:Lopez will get the start on Friday night in place of the injured Antonio Bastardo. To make room for Lopez the Phillies designated Jack Taschner for assignment.
July 1, 2009
Rodrigo Lopez will make the start for the Phillies on Friday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The 34-year-old Lopez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2007 with the Rockies. He is 5-4 with a 3.91 ERA at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. He is not a good spot starting option at this time.
April 28, 2009
Rodrigo Lopez lowered his ERA to 2.70 for Triple-A Lehigh Valley by tossing five scoreless innings on Tuesday.

Our View:Yes, that Rodrigo Lopez. The former 15-game winner with the Orioles stands behind J.A. Happ, at the very least, in the Phillies' starting rotation depth chart.
March 8, 2009
Rodrigo Lopez has signed a minor league deal with the Phillies, according to the Denver Post. He will earn $650,000 if he makes the team.

Our View:He enjoyed some success with the Orioles earlier in his career, but he is coming off Tommy John surgery and is expected to merely serve as organizational depth with the Phillies.
