Staff ace Johan Santana provided all the baseball the Mets needed for the win, but catcher Brian Schneider was the bat of reckoning in the 4-0 win over Pittsburgh. Schneider went 2-for-3 at the dish with one walk and his fourth home run of the season, totaling three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View:Schneider is hitting .333 through the month of August, though he has just two homers for five RBIs along the way.

Brian Schneider returned to action on Tuesday from a bruised hand. He went 3-for-4 in his return.

Our View:Schneider is a good bet when the Mets are facing righties. He's known as a streaky hitter, so this could be the start of a hot streak.

Brian Schneider is expected to rest for a few more days to nurse his bruised left hand, according to the NY Post.

Our View:Ramon Castro should handle the catching duties while he rests. Schneider could return on Tuesday, at the earliest.

Mets catcher Brian Schneider spoke with reporters and states he is feeling fine the day after leaving Saturday's game with swelling in his left hand, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The Mets expect Schneider will not be out long at all as manager Jerry Manuel noted he could be back in the lineup as early as Monday (though Tuesday seems much more likely).

X-rays on Brian Schneider's injured left pinkie finger came back negative, according to MLB.com. The Mets are listing him as day-to-day. The injury occurred on the same finger that kept Schneider out of action for nearly two weeks in April, when he suffered an infection.

Our View:This is good news for the Mets... we guess.
