Pitcher Matt Belisle is headed back to Triple-A Louisville to pitch in relief, according to the AP. Righty Josh Fogg moves back into the rotation and will start Saturday against Atlanta.

Our View:Belisle was 1-4 with a 7.28 ERA and 1.79 WHIP over six starts this season, and held no fantasy value prior to his demotion. He pitched in relief two years ago, and is better suited for that role.

Cincinnati RHP Matt Belisle is desperate for a win, and he put a good foot forward on the mound against the Dodgers this evening, but the offense failed to support the cause as the Reds fall 4-1. Belisle went six innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts to boot.

Our View:Belisle is now 0-3 for May and 1-4 overall, giving up a total of 19 earned runs over five starts.

After a rain induced postponement Thursday night in Cincinnati, the Reds will keep their pitching schedule intact for this weekend against Cleveland. That means a marquee matchup: Edinson Volquez vs. Cliff Lee. Dusty Baker said after the rain out was made official that Matt Belisle, who had been scheduled to start today, would be skipped until Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Our View:Johnny Cueto will start Friday night against the visiting Indians. No makeup date was set for the finale of the scheduled four-game series. The last-place Reds had won the first three against the NL East-leading Marlins.
April 26, 2008
Matt Belisle won in his second start of the year after losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in his debut.

Our View:Belisle was on the road, and out of Great American, which is always a plus when the flyball pitcher is on the mound.
April 21, 2008
Matt Belisle had an awful start to his 2008 campaign as he allowed 12 hits, one BB and seven runs (five earned) in just four innings to pick up the loss.

Our View:With Homer Bailey pitching so well in the minors Belisle doesn't figure to have much rope to work with. If he struggles this badly next time out the Reds might be forced to turn to Bailey.
April 21, 2008
As expected, the Reds activated Matt Belisle (forearm) on Monday, and he will start against the Dodgers, the Cincinnati Enquirer confirms.

Our View:Belisle pitched well during his minor league rehab stint, and we'll see if he can keep it going against the big boys. Fantasy owners shouldn't be counting on it.
April 19, 2008
Matt Belisle will replace Josh Fogg in the Reds starting rotation and take his first turn on Monday, this according to MLB.com.

Our View:Fogg has been awful with a 1-2 record with a 13.50 ERA, so the Reds had to do something. The big surprise is that they went with Belisle over Homer Bailey, but until Homer can harness his stuff, the Reds are likely in better hands with Belisle.
April 19, 2008
The Reds have welcomed pitcher Matt Belisle back to Cincinnati, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Belisle has been on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm. After three successful minor-league starts (3-0, 1.09 ERA with Triple-A Louisville), Belisle will get his first MLB start of the season, taking the place of Josh Fogg on Monday when the Reds face the Dodgers.
April 11, 2008
Matt Belisle, in the minors because of a strained right forearm, tossed a complete game for Double-A Chattanooga on Thursday as he allowed two runs on seven hits in the game. Belisle, who has now allowed just two runs in 17.2 innings, will have one more start next Tuesday before the team determines whether or not he is ready to be recalled to the big league club.
April 5, 2008
The Cincinnati Reds report RHP Matt Belisle will make his first rehabilitation start today, taking the mound for Class A Sarasota when they play host to Yankees affiliate Tampa, according to MLB.com. Belisle has been on the DL since March 31st with a sore right forearm. Belisle will be joined by catcher David Ross in the same game, also attempting to return from injury (lower back spasms) by getting action in the minors. In 2007, his first season as a full-time starter, Belisle went 8-9 with a 5.32 ERA in 30 starts. He was 2-0 with a 9.00 ERA in four spring-training starts before being placed on the DL.
March 31, 2008
Matt Belisle is battling right forearm soreness, and has been placed on the 15-day DL, according to RedsReporter.com. His return date is yet to be known.
March 29, 2008
It's not clear where Matt Belisle will begin the season, but it won't be with the Reds, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "If he pitches on a Florida State team or Double-A or Triple-A, that would start a rehab assignment," general manager Wayne Krivsky said. "If he pitches in an extended spring training game (it wouldn't start such an assignment), because that's not an accredited league, so to speak." Belisle has been slowed this spring by a sore right forearm and will have to build up his arm strength and pitch count before the Reds will consider calling him up to join the rotation.
March 21, 2008
Matt Belisle has been shut down indefinitely with a sore right forearm, according to MLB.com. It's not clear how long he'll be out. "We skipped him a turn and we'll see," manager Dusty Baker said. "From there, it's getting a little tougher to get the endurance back. That kind of set him backwards." It's looking less and less likely that Belisle will be part of the Reds rotation. It sounds like he may start the year on the DL.
March 14, 2008
Cincinnati starting hopeful Matt Matt Belisle pitched three innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits in the Reds' 7-7 10-inning tie with the Yankees today, a troubling outing to say the least. Belisle is carrying a ton of weight on his shoulders after struggling to an 8-9 record last season, and to make matters worse, fellow rotation competitor Josh Fogg enjoyed a great day against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
March 9, 2008
Matt Belisle has all but locked up a spot in the Reds rotation with his spring work. Belisle allowed an unearned run and two hits in three innings to earn his second win this spring. He walked three and struck out one.
March 4, 2008
Matt Belisle pitched a perfect first inning in Tuesday's spring game before giving up three hits and three runs in the second, according to the AP. "He was good early, then he lost his command," manager Dusty Baker said. "I don’t know what causes it. I have to see him some more. He definitely has the stuff." Belisle's going to have to learn how to avoid letting bad innings get to him if he's going to win and keep a job in the back end of the Reds rotation.
