Player Notes
December 12, 2008
Matt Belisle was non-tendered on Friday by the Reds as was Gary Majewski, according to Thelotd.com.

Our View:This will help make room on the 40-man roster for Arthur Rhodes as well as another addition of the Reds choose to make one.

Cincinnati pitcher Matt Belisle is out for the rest of the season after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right knee, according to the AP.

Our View:Belisle was in the minor leagues when he injured the knee, as he struggled to a 7.28 ERA in six starts in the majors.

Pitcher Matt Belisle is headed back to Triple-A Louisville to pitch in relief, according to the AP. Righty Josh Fogg moves back into the rotation and will start Saturday against Atlanta.

Our View:Belisle was 1-4 with a 7.28 ERA and 1.79 WHIP over six starts this season, and held no fantasy value prior to his demotion. He pitched in relief two years ago, and is better suited for that role.

Cincinnati RHP Matt Belisle is desperate for a win, and he put a good foot forward on the mound against the Dodgers this evening, but the offense failed to support the cause as the Reds fall 4-1. Belisle went six innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts to boot.

Our View:Belisle is now 0-3 for May and 1-4 overall, giving up a total of 19 earned runs over five starts.

After a rain induced postponement Thursday night in Cincinnati, the Reds will keep their pitching schedule intact for this weekend against Cleveland. That means a marquee matchup: Edinson Volquez vs. Cliff Lee. Dusty Baker said after the rain out was made official that Matt Belisle, who had been scheduled to start today, would be skipped until Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Our View:Johnny Cueto will start Friday night against the visiting Indians. No makeup date was set for the finale of the scheduled four-game series. The last-place Reds had won the first three against the NL East-leading Marlins.
