Carl Crawford is hoping for a quick return after undergoing surgery last week on his right middle knuckle, according to the Tampa Tribune. The star outfielder said, "I'm going to try my best to get back as soon as possible. I don't know how the rehab is going to go, I don't know how it's going to heal, but I'm definitely hoping for the best and I'm going to do what I can to get back on the field."

Our View:He is scheduled to begin therapy by the end of the week. He wants to return, but there is doubt he will be able to do so. Tampa Bay currently holds a 4.5 game lead ahead of Boston in the AL East.
August 20, 2008
Tampa Bay outfielder Carl Crawford will visit a therapist in St. Petersburg on Thursday, at which time a plan for his rehab program will be mapped out, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Crawford's injury occurred when he checked his swing on a 3-1 pitch from J.J. Putz in the 10th inning of the Rays' Aug. 9 contest in Seattle. The injury was located at the base of the middle finger of his right hand at the joint connecting the finger to the hand. The tendon used to straighten the finger came out of its groove, which caused the finger to lock into position when he bent it downward. It has been speculated that Crawford could return by the team's final series of the season against the Tigers in Detroit, but he could not say whether that would be a realistic expectation.
August 14, 2008
Carl Crawford is scheduled have outpatient surgery by Dr. Donald Sheridan this afternoon in Phoenix to repair the radial sagittal band of tissue that is supposed to hold in place the tendon on his right middle finger, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:Crawford will need six to eight weeks to recover and is likely to miss the rest of the regular season.
August 12, 2008
Outfielder Carl Crawford will undergo surgery Thursday to fix a tendon problem in his right hand and likely miss the rest of the regular season though there is a chance he could be back for the final games, Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman said Tuesday, according to TampaBay.com.

Our View:This is a tremendous blow for the Rays and fantasy owners alike, resulting in the worst scenario imaginable for both. He may return for the playoffs, but that is an optimistic thought at this point. For now, he is done.
August 11, 2008
Carl Crawford is seeking another medical opinion on his injured finger before deciding what course of action to follow, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Well that doesn't sound very promising. If the first doctor said thinks were good, would Crawford go for a second opinion? The bottom line is that he has a tendon in his right middle finger that has come out of the groove it should be in resulting in impaired movement (he can't straighten the finger after bending it). At best this doesn't seem like a 15 day type injury - we're just hoping it's not a season ending one at this point.
August 11, 2008
Carl Crawford may have a subluxation of the tendon in his right middle finger, according to the Tampa Tribune. If this report is accurate, Crawford's season would likely be over.

Our View:The team is scheduled to address the situation later today after they hear the results of an examination that was conducted on Monday, and we will obviously keep you posted as soon as we hear anything.
August 10, 2008
Carl Crawford has been placed on the 15-day DL due to a right middle finger tendon subluxation, according to the Tampa Tribune. Rocco Baldelli was activated from the 60-day DL as the adjoining move.

Our View:He is optimistic he will return when first eligible, but if he has ligament damage, his fantasy season would likely be over. He will be examined further by team doctors Monday.
August 10, 2008
To the shock and surprise of no one, the Rays found production from outfielder Carl Crawford in tonight's 8-7, 11-inning win at Seattle, going 2-for-4 at the dish with two walks and his 12th double of the season, totaling two RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View:Crawford has been a bit underwhelming this season, though hopes of a rise towards and in the playoffs loom. Tonight shows it's in the tank and could be on the way.
August 7, 2008
Carl Crawford has missed three straight games, but noted that his sore left hamstring is now feeling much better, according to the St. Petersburg Times. He said, "I feel strong enough to go full speed. That was the reason we wanted to rest these three days so I can play at full speed and not have to worry about playing at like 70 percent."

Our View:Manager Joe Maddon indicated that Crawford may return to the Rays' lineup Thursday against Seattle.
August 5, 2008
Carl Crawford is out of the lineup again on Tuesday due to a sore left hamstring. Manager Joe Maddon informs MLB.com there is a "solid chance" that Crawford won't return until Thursday.

Our View:Fantasy owners who set their lineups on Monday are obviously upset about the news, but we'd rather the Rays be cautious and not risk more serious injury.
August 4, 2008
Carl Crawford is out of Monday's lineup due to a sore left hamstring, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:Crawford isn't sure if one day of rest will be enough either. Eric Hinske will roam left field in his place tonight.
August 2, 2008
Tampa outfielder Carl Crawford is not having a particularly good year, and those struggles may continue tonight, as Crawford and his Rays teammates square off against Kenny Rogers. Crawford hits only .208 against the Detroit lefty, with five hits in 24 at-bats.

Our View:Crawford have not been the player many fantasy owners hoped he would be when they undoubtedly took him in the first or second round. It doesn't seem likely that he will start to turn that around against Rogers, either.
August 1, 2008
Carl Crawford had only one hit in four at-bats on Friday though he did manage to steal his 24th base of the season.

Our View:It's remarkable that the Rays have played so well with their best player having his worst season since becoming a regular. We keep waiting for a huge run of success, but it's starting to look like it may not be coming.
July 25, 2008
Carl Crawford went 0-for-5 in tonight's game against the Royals, and is just 7-for-42 in his last 10 games, a .166 average.

Our View:Crawford has not been what many fantasy owners expected this season, and this is just a continuation of those struggles.
July 13, 2008
Carl Crawford is struggling at the plate and will likely get today off, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:After an 0-for-5 yesterday, Crawford has not gotten a base hit in the Rays last five games and is 1-for-26 in his last six games. Some rest may be just what he needs, as he gets ready for baseball's second half.
July 11, 2008
Carl Crawford was 0-for-4 with two strike outs on Friday. During the Rays five game losing streak he is just 1-for-21.

Our View:This shouldn't last long. The break is coming around at just the right time.
July 7, 2008
Carl Crawford notched the 300th stolen base of his career in the first inning against the Royals on Monday, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Crawford is the ninth player since 1900 to reach the 300 milestone before the age of 27, joining Rickey Henderson, Ty Cobb, Tim Raines, Vince Coleman, Cesar Cedeno, Clyde Milan, Sherry Magee and Eddie Collins.
July 6, 2008
Carl Crawford went 2-for-3 on Sunday against the Royals and is now hitting 10-for-17 in July. He added an RBI and scored two runs, giving him 61 on the year.

Our View:Crawford is heating up and may have a big second half ahead. If you don't already have him, you still may be able to snag him for below value.
July 2, 2008
As is normally the case, the Tampa Bay effort versus the Boston Red Sox tonight, winning 7-6, was helped along by outfielder Carl Crawford , going 3-for-4 at the dish with three singles, his 21st stolen base of the season, and one walk, also adding one run scored to the stat line.

Our View:Crawford has struggled to get his offensive numbers to the tall expectations many fantasy owners harbored, hitting .267 with four homers for 14 RBIs through June. Nights like this are not coming often enough, but the potential for a surge is clearly on hand.
July 1, 2008
Carl Crawford has an excellent match-up tonight, as the Rays take on the Boston Red Sox and pitcher Tim Wakefield. Crawford hits the knuckle ball artist to the tune of .316 over 79 at-bats. He has nine extra-base hits against Wakefield.

Our View:Crawford has had an average season, but he brings potential speed and power to the table every game. This is obviously a good night to get him in your lineup.
June 25, 2008
Carl Crawford went deep twice on Wednesday night on his way to plating five runs for the Rays.

Our View:Hopefully you were able to grab Crawford from a disenchanted owner during Crawford's suspension, because you have no chance of getting him now as he has one again begun to hit like the star that he has long been (12 hits in six games).
June 24, 2008
Since returning from his five game suspension, Carl Crawford's been hot. He is nine-for-19 with five RBI, a triple and a homer.

Our View:Crawford's numbers are below his career averages. Perhaps the five games off were what he needs to get back on his typical all-star pace.
June 19, 2008
Carl Crawford hit his second career grand slam and the Tampa Bay Rays scored a 8-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.

Our View:Crawford, who was playing in only his second game since serving a four-game suspension for his part in the Boston brawl earlier this month, went 3-for-5 scoring once and driving in four. The speedster was caught stealing for the fifth time this season against 19 successes.
June 18, 2008
Rays outfielder Carl Crawford is back on the field tonight and working for the Tampa Bay effort, having completed his recent four-game suspension.

Our View:Crawford earned the suspension for his part in the bench-clearing brawl with Boston. He has also been nursing minor hamstring and knee injuries, but there is no sign that either is a major concern.
June 17, 2008
The Rays report outfielder Carl Crawford will return to action on Wednesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Today is the final game of Crawford's four-game suspension, earned for his part in the bench-clearing brawl between the Rays and the Boston Red Sox. Crawford reports the break was difficult but has done his legs well, suffering through nagging hamstring and knee issues throughout the early part of this season. He reports the rest has done him well and he now intends to return the give back to the team for letting them down.
June 13, 2008
As reported earlier this week, Carl Crawford will begin serving his four-game suspension tonight when the Rays square up against the Marlins.

Our View:Cliff Floyd will replace Crawford and receive an opportunity to get off the pine and breakout of his hitting stench.
June 11, 2008
Marc Lancaster of the Tampa Bay Tribune reports that Carl Crawford will begin serving his four-game suspension on Friday.

Our View:Crawford was suspended for his role in a brawl with the Boston Red Sox.
June 7, 2008
Carl Crawford went 1-for-5 with a stolen base from the number two hole in the Rays batting order on Saturday.

Our View:Crawford's average fell to .267 after this effort as he is now just 3-for-20 in June (.150). It's clear that his knee is bothering him, but the fact he stole a base is clearly a positive sign.
June 6, 2008
Major League Baseball has suspended Carl Crawford for four games or his role in the fracas during Thursday's game with the Red Sox.

Our View:This seems to be a little harsh. We expect Crawford to appeal and continue to play. Justin Ruggiano will likely pick up some starts when Crawford begins to serve the suspension.
June 3, 2008
Carl Crawford grounded out as a pinch hitter Tuesday. He didn't start for the second straight game because of soreness in his right knee and hamstring.

Our View:Carl could be back in action tomorrow.
June 3, 2008
Carl Crawford isn't in the starting lineup for the second straight game Tuesday because of soreness in his right knee and hamstring, according to the St. Petersburg Times. However, Crawford isn't expected to miss much time after an MRI showed no problems.

Our View:Manager Joe Maddon said he would talk to Crawford before the game tonight to see if he would be available for reserve duty. It sounds like Carl will not need a DL stint and should be back at some point this week.
June 3, 2008
Carl Crawford is not in the Rays' starting lineup for tonight's battle against the Red Sox, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Crawford reportedly appeared to tweak his leg while making a diving catch Sunday in the Rays’ 4-3 win over the White Sox, but manager Joe Maddon is expected to give an explantion during his pregame availability later in the day. Eric Hinske is penciled in to cover his spot in left field.
June 1, 2008
Carl Crawford is getting a day off on Sunday, the St. Petersburg Times reports. Gabe Gross will start in right field.

Our View:The Rays don't play on Monday, which makes this a good time for Crawford to get a two-day breather. He's not injured, so there's nothing to be worried about here.
May 11, 2008
Carl Crawford did a bit of everything on Sunday against the Angels. He went 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs, three RBI, and two steals.

Our View:Crawford's homer total and average are still a bit lower than where we'd like them to be, but he remains an all-around fantasy stud.
May 10, 2008
Tampa Bay LF Carl Crawford enjoyed an intriguing night at the park, helping his Rays to a 2-0 victory over the LA Angels. Crawford went 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks and a run scored, also adding his 10th stolen base of the season.

Our View:Crawford also got caught stealing for just the second time this year, but he is swinging the bat well and seems to have overcome the rough start that startled more than a few fantasy owners.
May 1, 2008
Carl Crawford went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Thursday's 4-2 win over Baltimore.

Our View:Crawford has 16 RBI over 28 games, and holds a .294 average. He also scored 26 runs.
April 25, 2008
Carl Crawford, who had a 12-game hitting streak entering Friday's game against Time Wakefield and the Red Sox, extended his streak with a tripled.

Our View:Crawford is starting to pour it on. The speedy outfielder has seven stolen bases, 23 runs scored, 12 RBI and is hitting .314 in the month of April.
April 25, 2008
Carl Crawford commented on tonight's opposing pitcher Tim Wakefield and his knuckler, according to MLB.com. Crawford said, "That thing is like a little fly. It's like you're trying to hit it with a flyswatter (Wakefield's knuckler) and every time you try to hit it, it moves away. I just swing the bat, I don't really take a proper swing where you stay inside the ball, I just let the bat fly."

Our View:Crawford pushed his average over the .300 mark on Thursday, and now racked up 20 runs over 22 games. He will be ready for Wakefield tonight, who is 2-0.
April 24, 2008
Carl Crawford pushed his average over the .300 mark on Thursday night with three hits, and he also scored a run, knocked one in and stole two bases.

Our View:You can only keep a good man down for so long. Crawford now has seven steals and 20 runs scored through 22 games for the former Devil Rays.
April 23, 2008
Tampa Bay OF Carl Crawford was up to his old tricks once again, going 2-for-4 at the plate in the Rays' 3-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Crawford picked up his first triple of the season as well as his 10th RBI of the campaign.

Our View:Since a slow start to the season, Crawford has found new hope of better returns. He's registered a hit in each game since April 12th and has boosted his average to .286.
April 14, 2008
Carl Crawford hit his first homer of the season on Monday, a two-run shot. He went 2-for-4 with three RBI against the Yankees and has five RBI over the last two games.

Our View:Crawford is off to a good start on the basepaths, but his bat was a little quiet. We have the utmost faith that he'll get his average up near or above .300 soon.
April 13, 2008
Carl Crawford showed a bit of life today, putting recent struggles in the peripheral to go 1-for-4 at the plate.

Our View:Crawford drove in two RBIs, posted one run scored, and stole his fourth base of the season. His average, now sitting at .208, serves as a reminder of the struggles thus far, but today might mark a change in fortune for this talented left fielder.
April 9, 2008
Carl Crawford’s struggling bat continues to flounder in the Rays’ 1-7 loss to Seattle this evening, going 1-for-4 at the plate to bring his seasonal batting average to .167. This one hit was Crawford’s first in four games as the “traditional” offensive leader of the Rays attempts to find his stride. He has just one multi-hit game this season and hasn’t stolen a base since April 4th.
April 8, 2008
Carl Crawford looks to bounce back in his home opener against Seattle today, according to MLB.com. Crawford went a mere 1-for-18 in his three-game series against the Yankees, and commented on his home opener by saying, "It's a good time for the fans at home to see us the first time during the regular season. You know the energy level is going to be high. We'll be back at the Trop, so you know it will be warm." Hopefully he can get on track and rebound from his cold start.
April 7, 2008
Carl Crawford went 0-for-4 on Monday to drop his average to .148 in 27 AB this season. Crawford will bounce back from this slow start and when he does pity the pitchers who get in his way. Bide your time until that occurs.
April 6, 2008
Carl Crawford went 0-for-4 in a 2-0 loss to the Yankees on Sunday. He was only hitting 4-for-19 coming into today's game, with four strikeouts.
April 5, 2008
Carl Crawford is doing what he can to keep the Rays and fantasy owners happy, going 1-for-5 at the plate (just one stolen base) with a stolen base, one RBI, and two runs scored in the Rays' 13-4 trouncing of the New York Yankees. Crawford is hitting .286 thus far and already has three stolen bases on the season, but leaving four men on base is killer for those hoping to see bigger and better gains from the top talent in Tampa baseball.
April 3, 2008
Carl Crawford wants to stick with the Rays for a long time, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Crawford noted, "I couldn't imagine playing anywhere else. I would like to stay here with the Rays. This is the only organization I know. I don't know nothing different. It would be nice. I'd hate to leave right when the getting is good. You've been around for all the bad stuff, you want to be around for the good part, too. And it looks like the good part is coming ahead." Crawford also noted that he doesn't know if or when there will be official talks about a contract extension for him.
April 2, 2008
Carl Crawford is up to his usual tricks, going 2-for-4 at the plate with second stolen base of the year as the Rays suffer the 6-9 loss to Baltimore. Crawford also picked up two runs scored and a walk in the loss.
April 1, 2008
The Rays have exercised Crawford's option of $8.25 million for 2009, according to the AP. Crawford, who is earning $5.25 million this year, is one of only 10 major leaguers who have hit .300 or better each of the past three years.
March 31, 2008
Carl Crawford had a single, scored a run and recorded an RBI in the Rays Monday win over the Orioles. Crawford also stole his first base of the season. Crawford remains a candidate to join the 20/20 club for the first time in his career.
March 15, 2008
Carl Crawford skipped Saturday's exhibition game due to tightness in both of his legs, according to the AP. "He just came up a little tight today," manager Joe Maddon said. "I just think the field was kind of wet yesterday, and sometimes you run on soft ground it can happen." It appears to be a minor ailment, so hopefully he will be back in action within a couple of days.
March 5, 2008
Carl Crawford collided with Astros catcher Humberto Quintero, but he emerged unscathed. "The bat was on the right side and that's where I was about to slide," Crawford informs the Tampa Tribune. "He was kind of up the line, more so than where a catcher usually stands, so I didn't really have too much of a choice."
February 20, 2008
Carl Crawford stepped up his offseason workout this winter, according to the St. Petersburg Times. He added a full gym to his Arizona home and focused on strengthening his legs to combat the fatigue that comes from playing on the artificial surface at the Trop. He also altered his diet in order to eliminate the sluggishness that affected him at times last season.
