Player Notes
January 4, 2009
The Red Sox don't have any interest in Michael Young, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Boston initially was looking at reacquiring Florida's Hanley Ramirez, but after that attempt fell short it doesn't appear that they'll be turning their interest to Young.

A number of teams are interested in Texas shortstop Michael Young, though there has been no substantial talks yet, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com.

Our View:Young has a five-year, $80 million contract extension that will be activated in 2009, when he turns 33, so any team that wants him will have to consider that. He is a solid hitter, but his average was just .284 last year, and he hit only 12 home runs in Texas' spacious park.

Yahoo! Sports reports that the Texas Rangers are quietly shopping shortstop Michael Young. Young, 32, will start to draw on a five-year, $80-million contract extension in 2009. The contract grants him full no-trade rights next season, then limited protection the following two seasons. The Mets, Angels, Dodgers, and Royals have reportedly all inquired on Young.

Our View:The Rangers could use some pitching in return. Young is one of the better and more consistent bats at his position.

Michael Young, who has been battling an injured finger, went 4-for-4 on Wednesday against the Athletics. He racked up two doubles, two singles, two runs, and two RBI.

Our View:Young's batting average is just .283, which is the first time since 2002 that he will hit less than .306 in a season. He is an across the board contributer, but 2008 has been a down year for him. His 79 RBI are 15 less than what he finished with last season.
September 21, 2008
Texas shortstop Michael Young is out of the lineup on Sunday, as he needs another day to rest his injured finger, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View:That's a shame, because he batters the opposing pitcher, John Lackey of the Angels, to the tune of a .370 career average.
