Danys Baez finalized his deal with the Orioles Monday, passing a physical and signing a three-year contract worth $19 million, the AP reports. Baez says he is content to be with the Orioles even as he won't be closing; Chris Ray is already established as the team's stopper. "I want to be a closer, no question," Baez said. "But I'm very happy to be here. You go to a team, you never know what's going to happen. I just want to help them win."

The Baltimore Sun reports that Danys Baez and the Orioles have agreed in principle to a three-year contract. If the deal is consumated, Baez likely would make between $5 million and $6 million per season. Baez was 5-6 last year with nine saves and a 4.53 ERA while pitching for the Braves and Dodgers and should be a setting up closer Chris Ray for his new team.

Recovering from an appendectomy, Danys Baez admitted yesterday that he probably won't return to action this season, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He also said that he doesn't believe he will re-sign with the Braves as a free agent during the offseason. "They signed [Bob] Wickman already, and I want to be a closer," said Baez.

Danys Baez admitted yesterday that he still has pain in his abdomen when he throws off a mound and isn't close to being ready to face hitters, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It's not clear whether he will be able to return from his appendectomy this season.

Danys Baez, recovering from an appendectomy, threw about 30 pitches from the bullpen mound on Monday, according to the AP. He said he was about 70 percent, saying his muscles were sore from stretching them out after the surgery. Baez hopes he'll be able to throw from the mound again Tuesday.

Although Braves manager Bobby Cox said he didn't think Danys Baez would return to action until the final 7-10 days of the season, Baez is aiming to be back sooner, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Hopefully in a week," said Baez. He is slated to throw off a mound today for the first time since having his appendix removed.

For the second game in a row, Dodgers manager Grady Little left struggling closer Danys Baez in the bullpen while letting a setup man pitch two innings for a save. Takashi Saito pitched the final two innings on Monday and Joe Beimel pitched the final two innings on Sunday. After the game, Little said he would employ Baez and Saito according to matchups rather than assign them rigid roles, according to the Los Angeles Times. Beimel, a left-hander, might be called upon again in the late innings as well.
