Scott Downs could be moved from his setup role back into the starting rotation next season, according to MLB.com. "We could put Downs in the rotation," Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said. "We have that option. We're talking about it, but, obviously, we have to sit down with him and see what he's comfortable with."

Our View:The Jays could have some holes in their rotation next year, especially if A.J. Burnett opts out of his contract as appears likely, but would it really make sense to take Downs out of the bullpen where he has dominated this season (1.23 ERA, 1.06 WHIP), this after a dominating 2007 campaign (2.17 ERA)? Sometimes it's just best to leave things how they are.

Scott Downs is available to pitch again after missing nearly a week due to a sprained right ankle, the AP reports.

Our View:Downs is in the middle of his second straight excellent season. He has turned into one of the best lefty setup men in the business, not that anyone pays attention to those guys.

Scott Downs' foot injury may not require a trip to the DL, according to The Star. The Jays will hold off on putting him on the DL in the hopes that he can recover within the next few days. Any recovery time will depend on Downs' ability to plant his right foot during his throwing motion. Downs accompanied the team to Boston last night but said, "I probably won't pitch there, I wouldn't think."

Our View:Downs has been pitching well this season, with a 1.40 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 57.2 innings, with 51 strikeouts. He also has five saves to his credit. We will keep you posted on his status.

Scott Downs is likely headed to the DL after spraining his right ankle Wednesday, according to BlueJays.com. Manager Cito Gaston said, "That's a big loss. I can't tell you how much he's done for this club since I've been here. Time after time, night after night, he's just been outstanding. If we lose him for a while, it's really going to hurt us."

Our View:Downs needed crutches to make his way through the visitors' clubhouse at Comerica Park following the game. Downs has been pitching well this season, with a 1.40 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 57.2 innings, with 51 strikeouts. He also has five saves to his credit.

Scott Downs picked up his fifth save of the season and secured Roy Halladay's fourth victory of the yar as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Minnesota Twins 6-5 on Wednesday night.

Our View:Downs has taken over the role of the injured Jeremy Accardo, as the team's primary setup man and situational closer.

Scott Downs picked up his second save of the season in Friday's 2-0 win over the White Sox. The Jays right-hander pitched two-thirds of an inning to help Shawn Marcum earn his third victory of the year.

Our View:Downs, Jeremy Accardo, Jess Carson and Shawn Camp combined for 2.1 innings of work to help in the win. B.J. Ryan worked the ninth inning in Thursday's win over Boston, and was not available for tonight's save. Ryan has not been cleared to pitch on back-to-back days as he continues to recover from his 2007 TJ surgery.

Scott Downs signed a three-year, $10 million extension with the Blue Jays Thursday. Pitching exclusively out of the bullpen for the first time, the lefty had a terrific year in 2007, holding a 2.17 ERA and 1.22 WHIP while striking out 57 in 58 innings.
