Miguel Cabrera has been named the Tigers Player of the Year, according to the Tigers Official Website.

Our View:Besides becoming the Tigers first home run champ in 17 years with 37, Cabrera also knocked in 127 runs while batting .292 and tying Josh Hamilton for the AL lead with 331 total bases. He was clearly the best hitter on the Tigers and fully deserved the honor.
September 27, 2008
Miguel Cabrera continued his big season on Saturday night. In the Tigers' 4-3 win over the Rays, Cabrera was 2-for-4 with his 37th home run.

Our View:In a season the Tigers will want to forget Cabrera was everything they hoped for when they traded two of their best prospects. Cabrera has driven in 127 runs with 37 home runs and an average of .294.
September 23, 2008
Miguel Cabrera is in the Tigers lineup on Tuesday, after leaving Monday's game with tightness in his back, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Cabrera is at DH tonight instead of playing the field. It is possible he will be the team's DH while Gary Sheffield sits due to suspension.
September 22, 2008
Miguel Cabrera was removed from the Tigers game on Monday night with what is being called tightness in his upper back, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:No further word yet on the severity of the injury other than to say that he is being listed as day-to-day. His loss in the last week of the season could be a costly blow for teams pushing for a fantasy championship.
September 19, 2008
Miguel Cabrera hit two home runs on Friday night giving him 36 on the season. That means he is tied with Carlos Quentin for the AL lead. Both home runs came off of Fausto Carmona. Cabrera finished the night with four RBI giving him a total of 125.

Our View:Cabrera has hit 20 of his 36 home runs in 58 second half games this season. Cabrera has successfully reminded everyone why he was considered a top fantasy producer.
September 18, 2008
Miguel Cabrera is closing in on the AL home run title. The Tigers first baseman has hit 34 home runs which is only one behind Alex Rodriguez and two behind the leader, Carlos Quentin. With Quentin out for the rest of the regular season, Cabrera only has to hit more than Rodriguez and he will become the first Tiger to win the home run title since Cecil Fielder did it in 1990, according to MLive.com.

Our View:Cabrera has hit 18 of his 34 homers in the second half of the season. After a slow start Cabrera has lived up to the high expectations for both the Tigers and fantasy owners.
September 17, 2008
Miguel Cabrera went 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored against the Rangers on Wednesday night. Detroit went on to win the game 17-4

Our View:Cabrera has really turned it up since the All-Star break. His 64 RBI since then are four more than he had in the first half despite playing in 35 less games. The quick math on that? He has 64 RBI in 57 games since the break. You can confidently say he is back.
September 10, 2008
Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-4 and scored a run, though he did leave three runners on base in the Tigers 5-2 loss to Oakland.

Our View:Cabrera has a hit in 11 of his past 13 games, and has been doing everything that fantasy owners thought he would this season, save for a batting average a tick lower then normal.
September 7, 2008
Miguel Cabrera had two hits in five at-bats, including his 32nd home run of the season, to help the Tigers to a 7-5 win over the Twins.

Our View:Cabrera is now hitting .348 on the month, along with nine RBI. He will not quite live up to the expectations of fantasy owners unless he can push that batting average over .300, but he has been worth the first-round pick anyway.
September 1, 2008
Miguel Cabrera hit his 30th home run of the season on Monday, his lone hit in five trips to the plate against the Yankees.

Our View:Few have been swinging a better power bat that Cabrera of late as he has 19 home runs and 58 RBI over his last 54 games leading to this being his fifth straight season of at least 25-HR and 100-RBI for this young hitting uberstud.
August 31, 2008
Miguel Cabrera carried the Tigers offense on Sunday against the Royals. He homered, doubled, and drove in all four runs in the 4-2 victory. Cabrera is hitting .300-13-47 in 42 games since the All-Star break.

Our View:Miggy took some time to find his groove this year, but he has been a monster since the start of July. His average won't climb up to his usual standards by year's end, but he should remain highly regarded heading into 2009.
August 29, 2008
Miguel Cabrera left Friday's game against the Royals in the sixth inning due to a mild strain of his left pectoral muscle, according to the AP.

Our View:The Tigers consider him day-to-day.

August 16, 2008
Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs, and one RBI in Saturday's win over the Orioles. He is up to 25 home runs on the season, including nine since the All-Star break.

Our View:Cabrera has been a fantasy stud over the past six weeks or so with 14 homers and 45 RBI over 38 games. What took you so long, Miggy?
August 14, 2008
Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Blue Jays at home. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View:Cabrera ended a mini-slump, as he went hitless over his previous two games, and only had one hit over his last three.
August 11, 2008
Miguel Cabrera hit his 24th home run of the year on Monday night, his only hit in four trips to the plate.

Our View:Over his last 24 games Cabrera is hitting .347-8-33 to boost his RBI total to 90. And you thought he wasn't going to to hit 30 home runs with 100 RBI.
August 9, 2008
Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera was on his best behavior at the plate this evening as the Tigers put the Oakland Athletics to bed, 10-2. Cabrera hit not one but two homers to go 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View:Cabrera continues to rip the ball, hitting .330 with eight homers and a whopping 31 RBIs through July and starting with an average of .333 with two homers and eight RBIs through the early going in August.
August 7, 2008
Miguel Cabrera had been two for his last fifteen, but he broke through in the Tigers win over Chicago, going 3-for-3 with two walks, a home run, and three RBI.

Our View:Cabrera was the AL Player of the Month in July, and though he frustrated fantasy players for a while, he is finally getting back to his old self.

Miguel Cabrera has been named the AL Player of the Month for July, according to the AP. He earned the honor by batting .330 (35-for-106) with eight home runs and a major league-best 31 RBI.

August 3, 2008
Miguel Cabrera hit his 20th home run of the year on Sunday, his lone hit in five trips to the plate.

Our View:Cabrera has four home runs and 25 RBI in 17 appearances since the All-Star game as he has quickly erased the ill feelings that accompanied his performance in the early going. As they say, the cream always rises to the top.
August 2, 2008
Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-3 with an RBI in Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Rays. He hit one double with two singles.

Our View:Cabrera has 11 hits and nine RBI over his last seven games, and should be solid down the stretch.
August 1, 2008
Miguel Cabrera continued his hitting on Friday night as he had a hit and an RBI for the Tigers. He also walked twice.

July 31, 2008

July 28, 2008

He batted .464 (13-for-28) during that span with three doubles and 13 RBI. He matched a career high with five hits in Detroit’s 19-4 victory over the Royals on July 21.

Our View:It marks the second weekly award for Cabrera this season. He raised his average to .294 with 17 homers and 74 RBI over 102 games. He started off slow in Detroit, but looks to have a strong finish.
July 26, 2008
Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 1-for-4 performance on Saturday.

Our View:Cabrera started slow, and reported problems with his weight concerned fantasy owners who used a first-round pick on him, but he is hitting over .330 in July and seems well on his way to having close to a typical Cabrera-type of year.
July 23, 2008
Miguel Cabrera continued to flash his bat on Wednesday as he had two hits which led to three RBI for the Tigers.

Our View:Cabrera has been on fire in July hitting .329 with six home runs and 23 RBI in just 18 games. He still has a ways to go to produce the numbers expected of him this year, hut he is up to .290-17-71 for the Tigers with this recent hot streak.
July 21, 2008
Miguel Cabrera led the Tigers to a 19-4 win over the Royals on Monday night. The first baseman went 5-for-6 with two doubles, three singles, two runs, and six RBI. Cabrera has driven in 19 runs over 16 games in July.

Our View:Miggy's numbers have generally been down from their usual levels this season, but it's not too late for him to make a run. It's certainly nice to see this five-hit, six-RBI line.
July 9, 2008
Miguel Cabrera homered again on Wednesday, his third in two days, this time in the bottom of the ninth to give Detroit an 8-6 win over Cleveland.

Our View:Cabrera went 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI in Wednesday's win.

July 5, 2008
Miguel Cabrera hit a home run for the second straight day, his 13th of the season, for the Tigers.

Our View:Cabrera still has a ways to go with his swing this year, but it's certainly possible for him to reach the 30 and 100 levels since he currently sits at 13 home runs and 50 RBI in what has been a down first half.
July 4, 2008
Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and accounted for the Tigers' lone RBI in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Mariners.

July 2, 2008
Miguel Cabrera flied out in a pinch-hit opportunity on Tuesday. The Detroit News reports that he may be out of the starting lineup til next week because of a sore hip.

Our View:Marcus Thames replaced him at first base. If you have an alternative to starting Cabrera, you should bench him until further notice.
July 1, 2008

June 30, 2008
Tigers first and third baseman Miguel Cabrera exited Monday's game against Minnesota in the top of the third inning with an injured left hip flexor.

June 14, 2008
The Tigers pulled out their whooping sticks today and put 12 runs on the Dodgers, taking the 12-7 win in interleague play. Detroit enjoyed strong plate performances from several team members, including outfielder Curtis Granderson, Edgar Renteria, Magglio Ordonez, and Jeff Larish (all going 2-for-4). However, the top dog was first baseman Miguel Cabrera , going 2-for-4 with a walk and his 10th home run of the season, good for two RBIs and two runs scored on the day.

Our View:This is Cabrera's second home run in three days, now touting hits in seven of his last eight games.
June 12, 2008

June 1, 2008
Miguel Cabrera's two-run double sparked a four-run ninth inning as Detroit outlasted Seattle, 7-5, in the finale of a three-game weekend series at Safeco Field.

Our View:Cabrera was lowered in the batting order recently due to his supposed .276 average. Manager Jim Leyland has tried everything in his black book to get this Tigers team jump started and is again messing with his lineup.
May 31, 2008
Tigers' Manager Jim Leyland has been ejected from Saturday's game against the Mariners in the sixth inning by first base umpire Dan Iassogna for arguing, according to the AP.

May 28, 2008

The man of the day for Detroit was first baseman Miguel Cabrera , going 1-for-4 on the day with his eighth homer of the season, good for two RBIs on the night.

May 18, 2008
Miguel Cabrera continues to limp along at a snails pace for him as he went 1-for-4 on Sunday to drop his average to .270.

Our View:So much for the vaunted Tigers attack. You know things are going bad when one of the best hitters in baseball is barely performing at a replacement level. Target Cabrera and see if you can convince his owner to move him your way.
May 16, 2008
Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in Friday's 4-3 loss to Arizona.

Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a home run, his sixth, and two RBI for the Tigers.

April 23, 2008
Detroit's Miguel Cabrera seems to have adapted well to a move to DH, and while the change may be temporary, tonight's results could encourage further experimentation. Cabrera hit 1-for-5 at the plate, posting his fifth home run of the season, touting one walk and three RBIs.

Our View:Cabrera has struggled a bit, at least when compared to expectation, and the move to DH may motivate him to better results.

April 23, 2008
Miguel Cabrera is being moved to first base, according to MLive.com. He has picked up the pace following a dismal start, as he is now hitting .267 over 75 at-bats, with four homers and 15 RBI.

Our View:He is being moved to keep him healthier with less strain on his body. He should keep his third base designation in most leagues, and still remains a corner infielder. His numbers could also benefit from the move.
April 21, 2008
Miguel Cabrera was named the co-winner of the AL Player of the Week honors, this according to MLB.com. Cabrera hit .429-2-11 on the week.

Our View:Cabrera has rebounded from a slow start and is now hitting .279-3-13 in his first 18 games in the American League. Look for the rebound to continue for one of the best hitters in the game.
April 18, 2008
Miguel Cabrera had two hits, an RBI, a run scored and his first steal of the season on Friday night for the Tigers.

Our View:Cabrera is rounding nicely into form as he now has 12 RBI and a .283 batting average after struggling a bit in the early going. No shock there, he is one of the best hitters in the game.
April 16, 2008
Miguel Cabrera had his first big game of the young season as he hit a HR, had four hits, and knocked in five runs for the Tigers.

Our View:Though he is still hitting only .264, Cabrera is up to 10 RBI in 14 games with this big effort, and despite the general malaise that has settled on the Tigers, there is no reason to expect anything less than a .300-30-100 season this year from this young slugger.
April 15, 2008
Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer to help the Detroit Tigers to a second straight eighth-inning rally, beating the Minnesota Twins 6-5 Tuesday night.

April 15, 2008
Miguel Cabrera may not be making an impact in Detroit so far, because he could be trying too hard, according to the Detroit News. Manager Jim Leyland commented, "I've already talked to him about just being himself and playing his game, that's all I want him to do. I think he's obviously putting some pressure on himself. So I told him, 'Be yourself, play your game, don't worry about it. Don't try to be anything but what you are and who you are. A lot of times, anybody, not just Miguel Cabrera, but anybody that signs a big contract and gets off to a slow start, people get on them. That's just the way it is. He's one of the big faces of the future for this organization. So he's dealing with something new. But I want him to be comfortable, be happy and do what he's capable of doing."

Our View:He has been dealing with a quad ailment as well. He should come around, as he becomes more comfortable in Detroit.
April 12, 2008
Miguel Cabrera is playing first base today in place of the injured Carlos Guillen, according to MLB.com. Manager Leyland noted that his move to first today is only a preventative measure to avoid worsening his quad ailment. He is not going to move to first base.

Our View:Cabrera really needs to get on track, as he is only hitting .182 over 33 at-bats.
April 11, 2008

April 10, 2008
Miguel Cabrera is off to a shaky start in Detroit, as he made his third error of the season on Wednesday against Boston. He also went 1-for-4, while leaving three men on base. He is only hitting .125 over 24 at-bats, with six strikeouts, and he is clearly having a rough time adapting to the American League in the early going.
April 6, 2008
Miguel Cabrera is only hitting 2-for-14 with one home run this season, and needs to break out of his slump as the winless Tigers battle the rival White Sox on Sunday. He has not performed up to high expectations since signing his lucrative new deal, due primarily to his quad ailment.

April 4, 2008
Miguel Cabrera hopes to play Friday, but he wasn't able to say for sure. "I want to play," Cabrera told The Detroit News. "We'll see." Miggy sat out Thursday's game with a sore quad. The Tigers have a day game Friday, which lessens the chance that Cabrera will be ready. Check back for updates.
April 3, 2008

March 23, 2008

Miguel Cabrera is prepared to sign a contract extension with Detroit rumored to be worth $153.3 million, according to ESPNDeportes.com. The preliminary agreement was reached on Saturday, set for eight years, a source close to Cabrera told ESPNdeportes.com on condition of anonymity. Overall, this deal would make Cabrera the fourth-richest player ever in baseball history. Cabrera would trail Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez ($275 million), Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter ($189 million) and Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez ($160 million), but he would be the highest-paid Tiger of all time.

It’s just kind of my gut telling me something’s going to happen, somehow, someway. I don’t know.” The market is somewhat saturated with players that could work as more than a few teams have arms that won’t make the MLB roster and could be traded.
March 6, 2008
Miguel Cabrera is poised to improve his defense and decrease his mistakes, as reported on the Detroit Free Press. Everyone knows Miguel is an elite hitter but he is determined to play better defense and put his 23 errors in 2007 behind him. He has notably slimmed down from 2007 as well.
February 27, 2008
Manager Jim Leyland has already announced his lineup for opening day, and he has Miguel Cabrera hitting fifth. Leyland figures the fifth spot should generate plenty of RBI opportunities, with Curtis Granderson, Placido Polanco, Gary Sheffield and Magglio Ordonez rounding out the top four. "I wasn't very good in math, but I did some math and those four guys combined to average about .320 (last year)," Leyland told MLive.com. "I did some math, and I figured out that made a lot of sense." We kind of thought Cabrera would hit third and Sheffield fifth, but it doesn't make a big difference.
