Despite talks that Brian Roberts and the Orioles were working on a contract extension, it seems that the Chicago Cubs are not out of the running for him after all, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:The Cubs have been after Roberts for some time, and if Baltimore can't get an extension worked out, he may be on the open market.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Cubs are interested in pursuing Brian Roberts.

Our View:Roberts would add to what is already a potent offense for the Cubs if they could acquire him. However, Mark Derosa had more than twice the home runs and 30 more RBI as a second baseman/outfielder for the Cubs this year, while only hitting slightly less for average.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles could trade Brian Roberts if a contract extension can not be reached. The Mets struggled offensively at second base for most of last year, and could be a suitor for Roberts.

Our View:The Orioles are still optimistic that they can re-sign Roberts. However, if they can't come to terms, they would have more flexibility in trading him in the offseason than at next year's trade deadline. They could even get a second baseman back, like free-agent Orlando Hudson. The Mets can fork out the dollars necessary to get an extension done with Roberts if the Orioles allow such a discussion before trading him.

Brian Roberts left Sunday's game in the sixth inning after being struck by a pitch by Toronto's Jesse Litsch, according to the AP.

Our View:He was replaced by Alex Cintron in the Orioles' lineup.

Plenty of changes are in store for the Orioles in the offseason, but manager Dave Trembley wants to keep Brian Roberts according to the Baltimore Sun. "I fully expect Brian Roberts to be the leadoff hitter on this ballclub for a long time because of what he means to this team, this community," Trembley said. "He is a guy that is a Baltimore Oriole. That simple. I don't see him going anywhere. I don't think he wants to go anywhere, which is good for us."

Our View:He is signed through 2009. He has hit .297 with 51 doubles and 40 stolen bases this season.
