Mets GM Omar Minaya said that he has no plans to trade Carlos Delgado after picking up his $12 million option, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:The only reason for the Mets to trade Delgado would be if they wanted to bring in Mark Teixeira instead. Teixeira would be a bit of a defensive upgrade at first base over Delgado, but probably not worth the extra $4-to-8 million that Teixeira's agent Scott Boras will be looking for.
October 31, 2008
The Mets have exercised Carlos Delgado's $12 million option for 2009, according to MetsBlog.com.

Our View:Delgado got off to a slow start in 2008, but ended the year with 38 homers and 115 RBI. He was worth bringing back for 2009.
October 2, 2008
The New York Mets are likely going to pick up the $12 million option on first baseman Carlos Delgado's contract, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Delgado got off to a horrid start before rebounding to hit .271 with 38 home runs and 115 RBI. He will turn 37 next season, and the likelihood that he continues to put up the same type of power numbers is not very high.
September 24, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit a third-inning grand slam and finished Wednesday 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. The performance was not enough for the win as the Mets lost 9-6 in extra innings to the Cubs.

Our View:It was Delgado's 38th home run of the year tieing his best mark since 2003. He had just 24 last season.
September 21, 2008
Carlos Delgado had another huge afternoon for the Mets as he went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. One of the hits was his 37th home run of the year and he is up to 110 RBI on the year.

Our View:Delgado hit 38 long balls and had 114 RBI in his first season in New York (2006) and his work this year is almost an exact duplication. It's been said before, but he has been mashing since the All-Star break hitting .305-20-58 in 59 games.
September 21, 2008
Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado hit a single in the first inning on Sunday, which was the 2,000th hit of his career, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Delgado started off slowly, leading to many fantasy owners dropping him from their teams. That turned out to be quite a mistake, as he has rebounded to hit 36 home runs and drive in 107 runs.
September 13, 2008
Carlos Delgado went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Braves at Shea Stadium. He hit a single and a double.

Our View:Delgago has registered multiple hits in three of his last four games, with four homers and seven runs scored over the span.
September 12, 2008
ESPN.com reports that Carlos Delgado could get a $4 million dollar bonus on his team option for next season if he wins the World Series MVP award and finishes in the top six in the regular-season MVP voting.

Our View:Nothing like a little incentive to spark a bat, huh? This clause is buried in the contract that was originally signed with the Marlins in 2005, but is not completely improbable. The Mets are currently three games ahead of the Phillies in the NL East and face Atlanta at home this weekend. Delgado leads the team with 35 home runs and is second to David Wright with 104 RBI.
September 10, 2008
After an 0-for-4 performance on Independence Day, Mets' first baseman Carlos Delgado had a .235 average, 15 home runs and 49 RBI. Today is Sept. 10, and Delgado? He might be your National League MVP. In Tuesday’s win against the Nationals, Delgado had his second straight multi-home run game, the fifth player in Mets history to do so.

Our View:He has four multihomer games in his past 13 overall and seven multiple home run games this season, equaling the most by a Mets player (Dave Kingman had seven in 1976) and the most he has had in one season.. Throw in 68 RBI in the past 66 games, and Delgado has upped his season totals to .266, 35 HR and 103 RBI.
September 9, 2008
Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado is on a tear, hitting two home runs for the second straight game on Tuesday night. Delgado was 3-3 on the night with home runs 34 and 35 and also drove in three runs, giving him a 103 RBI on the year.

Our View:Delgado has entered his name in the MVP race with an outstanding second half. Delgado is a must starter in all fantasy leagues.
September 7, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit two home runs off of Phillies starter Cole Hamels, and went 3-for-4 with four RBI in the Mets 6-3 win over Philadelphia. His RBI gave him an even 100 on the season.

Our View:Delgado has played outstanding so far in September, and after looking like he could be finished earlier in the year, has really come on strong.
September 1, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit a game winning two run home run off of Eric Gagne in the eighth inning in the Mets 4-2 victory.

Our View:With the two RBI, Delgado is just five RBI short of his ninth 30-100 season. After looking lost in the early part of the year, Delgado has certainly found his stroke leading to a superb 23 home runs and 70 RBI in his last 83 games. There aren't too many sluggers who have matched that level of production.
August 27, 2008
Carlos Delgado was 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs as the Mets went on to beat the Phillies 6-3 on Wednesday.

Our View:Delgado continues his hot hitting as of late with three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored Wednesday night. His hot hitting has promoted him into the clean-up spot for the Mets. Delgado should be starting in all fantasy formats.
August 25, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit a pair of three-run home runs on Monday, giving the Mets all the offense they needed behind Mike Pelfrey's complete game in New York's 9-1 win over Houston.

Our View:Delgado has had another solid year for fantasy owners, who had to be worried after his slow start and the talk that he had lost his power.
August 21, 2008
Carlos Delgado went 5-for-5 with three RBI Thursday against the Braves. Delgado capped his big night with a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning, sending the New York Mets to a 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves that completed a three-game sweep.

Our View:Delgado tied a career high with five hits Thursday night.
August 19, 2008
In the Mets 8-3 trouncing of the Atlanta Braves this evening, it was first baseman Carlos Delgado serving as the voice of power, going 1-for-4 with a double to score two RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View:After hitting .357 in July, Delgado has slipped to .222 in August, though his three homers with 12 RBIs helps ease the pain just a bit.
August 3, 2008
Carlos Delgado had three more hits on Sunday and is now batting .268, the highest mark it has reached since April 13th.

Our View:Since the All-Star break Delgado has turned back the clock about five years as he is batting .383-6-18 in 16 games to power the middle of the Mets lineup. With this recent hot streak, Delgado has a chance to hit .270 with 30 home runs for the first time since 2005.
July 29, 2008
Carlos Delgado helped the Mets down the Flordia Marlins by going 1-for-3 and hitting his 23rd home run of the season.

Our View:Delgado has had a terrific July, and is hitting .372 with nine home runs and 24 RBI for the month.
July 26, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit two home runs on Saturday in the Mets 10-8 loss to St. Louis. Delgado was 2-for-6 on the night and drove in three runners, giving him 66 RBI on the season.

Our View:Reports of Delgado's demise earlier in the season were obviously premature, and he is paying dividends to fantasy owners who stuck with him.
July 25, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit his 20th home run of the season and knocked in two in the Mets victory over St. Louis.

Our View:After numerous reports saying Delgado was done because of his slow start early in the year, the slugger has hit .390 for the month.
July 24, 2008
Carlos Delgado busted up a tie game with a two-run double in the eighth inning on Thursday against the Phillies. It was his only hit in the Mets 3-1 victory.

Our View:The two RBI gives Delgado 16 for the month. His red- hot July (.406/.500/.725) has answered any questions about whether or not he was washed up. However, he is bound to come back down to Earth at some point. Another month like June, when he hit just .229, could lie ahead.
July 23, 2008
Carlos Delgado has been moved into the cleanup spot with the Mets due to a hot bat that has produced a .403 average and a .731 SLG in July, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Delgado has turned around what was an awful start to his season and has now gone deep 19 times while producing a .260 average. Delgado should push 30 home runs and 100 RBI, though expecting his average to climb much above his current mark is likely wishful thinking at this point of his career.
July 22, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit his fifth home run of the month and his 19th of the season in a 8-6 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Our View:Delgado has clearly found his stroke this month. He has 14 RBI and 16 runs to go with his five home runs in July.
July 20, 2008
The Mets enjoyed a throng of hits to get the 7-5 win over the Reds today, giving first baseman Carlos Delgado the stage to shine. Delgado went 3-for-4 at the dish with one walk and his 20th double of the season, recording two RBIs and one run scored on the day.

Our View:Delgado is as hot as it gets, hitting .419 through July with a .500 OBP, four homers, and 12 RBIs. He's also improving with his eye, posting 11 walks versus 14 strikeouts this month (compared to nine walks versus 21 strikeouts in June).
July 17, 2008
Carlos Delgado continues a red hot July. He was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, a walk and two runs in Thursday night's 10-8 win over the Reds.

Our View:Delgado is now hitting .396 with four home runs, 10 RBI and 14 runs scored in 13 games.
July 16, 2008
Carlos Delgado has been a streaky hitter this season with 54% of his 52 RBI coming in just 10% of his games played, according to MLB.com. This means that Delgado has all of 23 RBI in the other 82 games he has played this season.

Our View:Other Mets who has suffered from this high concentration of RBI in just a few games would include David Wright who has 60% of his RBI in just 18% of his games, while Carlos Beltran has 70% of his RBI in just 17% of his games.
July 9, 2008
The Mets put the 5-0 whooping on the Giants this evening, though the top of the batting order failed to support the cause as hitters one through five posted a combined total of two hits. Instead, it was first baseman Carlos Delgado getting the job done, going 3-for-4 with two doubles to total two runs scored on the evening.

Our View:Delgado is on fire, going 15-for-35 thus far through July with two homers, five RBIs, and 10 runs scored.
July 8, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit his 16th home run of the year on Tuesday off of Giants starter Tim Lincecum. He was 2-for-3 on the night.

Our View:Delgado is hitting .357 in seven July games. He appears to have rediscovered his swing along with most of the Mets.
July 3, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit a two-run home run and recorded three RBI as the Mets offense seems to have found itself. New York pounded rookie right-hander Mitchell Boggs, rebounding from a disappointing one-run loss on Wednesday night, to earn a split in the four-game series.

Our View:Delgado's home run was his 15th of the season and the three RBI raises his total to 49 in 83 games played.
July 1, 2008
Despite his recent success at the plate, the Mets will continue to replace Carlos Delgado late in games for defensive purposes, according to Mets Blog. “Nothing against Carlos’s hands or anything, but I think Fernando [Tatis] gives us a little more range on that side," manager Jerry Manuel said. "I explained it to him hoping that he would understand, which he did. But, knowing that he wouldn’t like it because of who he is and what he’s been to the game, I’m all right with that.”

Our View:Tatis has only played nine games at first base in his career, so you can tell just how bad things have gotten on defense for Delgado. The bat will keep him in the starting lineup, but Delgado could lose just enough at-bats to cause his merely average production to fall even further.
June 29, 2008
Carlos Delgado went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Yankees.

Our View:He blasted three homers over a four-game span against the Yankees, and has 14 for the season. He is still available in some leagues, and is worth a look if you need help in your infield.
June 27, 2008
Carlos Delgado set a franchise record with nine RBI in the top half of Friday's double-header against the Yankeees, but he went cold in the second game, as he went 0-for-2.

Our View:It did not take him long to disappoint fantasy owners again following his stellar effort in the afternoon.
June 27, 2008
Carlos Delgado went 3-for-5 with two home runs and had a Mets team record nine RBI, according to the Associated Press. FYI, Dave Kingman drove in eight runs for the Mets in an 11-0 victory at the Dodgers on June 4, 1976.

Our View:Delgado isn't exactly tearing it up, as evidenced by the fact that those nine runs batted in make up about 20% of his total for the year. It's possible this is the start of a turnaround, but that's unlikely.
June 8, 2008
They made it interesting, but the Mets took the fall 8-6 today over the San Diego Padres as the Pads scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory. Several of the Mets made significant contributions, but first baseman Carlos Delgado was the top dog, going 3-for-5 with his 11th double and first triple of the season. Delgado posted two RBIs and one run scored on the day

Our View:The target of ire earlier in the season, Delgado is on fire, hitting .370 for the month of June, going 6-for-9 over his last two games.
June 8, 2008
Carlos Delgado had three hits, two singles and a double, for the Mets in their 2-1, 10 inning loss to the Padres.

Our View:Delgado has four multi-hit games in his last 10 outings though he is still hitting just .237 on the year. He is also barely on pace for 20 home runs meaning there is likely to be a power surge forthcoming, that is if he isn't to the point where his diminishing bat speed just won't let him go deep.
May 28, 2008
Carlos Delgado is out of the lineup again Wednesday, his second day off in a row. Manager Willie Randolph said he wanted to give the veteran a couple days off in order to "clear his head," according to MetsBlog.com. Damion Easley will get another start at first in Delgado's place.

Our View:Delgado had a homer in three straight games last week, but he's had a couple hitless games since. His power numbers on the year (eight homers, 25 RBI) aren't bad, but his batting average (.215) certainly is.
May 27, 2008
Manager Willie Randolph rested the slumping Carlos Delgado Tuesday night, hoping to clear the veteran's head. Randolph said he might sit Delgado again Wednesday against lefty Scott Olsen, according to the AP.

Our View:Delgado is batting .184 over the past two weeks and has a .215 mark for the season. Damion Easley started in Delgado's place tonight and went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
May 22, 2008
Carlos Delgado hit a solo home run on Thursday night for the Mets in their 4-2 loss to the hated Braves.

Our View:A .218 average and six home runs certainly aren't what Delgado owners paid for this season, and truth be told, most would welcome the .258-24-87 hitter that showed up last year. Does Delgado still have that thunder in his bat? We're still holding out hope that he does.
May 10, 2008
It wasn't that long ago that rumors of a potential release followed Mets 1B Carlos Delgado on to the field as he struggled with hitting woes, but his numbers have improved over recent weeks and now he is surging as the hitter we have grown to respect. Delgado went 3-for-4 at the plate in the Mets' 12-6 win over Cincinnati today, hitting his sixth double and fifth home run of the year to gather one RBI and two runs scored.

Our View:Delgado has posted at least one hit in each and every one of the Mets' games this month. Over his last nine games, Delgado has gone 12-for-34 with four home runs and seven RBIs.
May 7, 2008
Carlos Delgado is not in the starting lineup for today's finale of a three-game set against the Dodgers.

Our View:Marlon Anderson is starting at first base and hitting seventh.
May 3, 2008
Carlos Delgado went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer off Brandon Webb in Saturday's 10-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Our View:He is only hitting .212 for the season, but has four homers and 16 RBI over 27 games.
May 2, 2008
With Moises Alou slated to come off the DL today, Carlos Delgado is likely to be moved down to seventh in the Mets order, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:It looked as if Carlos was coming out of his funk with a pair of bombs earlier this week, but he's since gone 1-for-8 with just one single. He shouldn't be started in mixed leagues at this point.
April 27, 2008
Earlier we reported the Mets were rumored to be considering the release of 1B Carlos Delgado , entering the day in the midst of a horrendous slump that had fans in Shea Stadium booing his appearances at the plate. Today, he was the king of New York, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two home runs and two walks.

Our View:Delgado hit both homers with no one on base, but his three runs scored were key in the Mets 3-6 win over the Atlanta Braves.
April 27, 2008
Rumors persist to surface claiming the New York Mets are seriously considering a move to release 1B Carlos Delgado , according to MLBTradeRumors.com.

Our View:The site notes reporter Joel Sherman of the New York Post has filed a column titled, "DELGADO ON HIS WAY OUT AT FIRST," noting league trends to push aging veterans to the free-agent market and putting emphasis on long-term deals for young talent as reasons to believe the Mets may follow suit. Delgado is making $16 million this season and was recently the target of speculation from ESPN's Buster Olney, citing Xavier Nady and Scott Hatteberg as worthy replacements (and financial discounts) over Delgado at first base. At this point, it is all speculation as the Mets have not put forth any true indication a move will be made, but the Blue Jays' decision to release Frank Thomas has reporters focusing on similar situations in their own towns. Of course, Delgado's horrendous .186 batting average through 86 at-bats isn't helping matters. Stay tuned.
April 26, 2008
Carlos Delgado is back in the Mets' lineup for Saturday, according to MetsBlog. He is hitting a dismal .195 over 22 games, and will bat sixth in the order.

Our View:Manager Willie Randolph rested him last night, and it remains to be seen if he will benefit from a mental day off. He should not be considered for your lineups.
April 26, 2008
Carlos Delgado is not injured despite his 4-for-41 slump, according to the NY Post. Manager Willie Randolph decided to rest him last night and said, "Maybe he just needs a break." Randolph also said that Delgado is fine physically and added, "When you're struggling sometimes, maybe a nice little mental break might be good for you."

Our View:Something is not right with Delgado, and he should remain on your bench. He is hitting .195 over 82 at-bats overall, with only one homer.
April 23, 2008
Carlos Delgado was dropped to sixth in the order on Wednesday night do to a poor start to the season, according to MLB.com. Ryan Church was inserted into the fifth slot. "Carlos is struggling a little bit," manager Willie Randolph said. "Church is swinging a little bit better. I thought I'd just throw him in there and see if we can get something going."

Our View:Delgado had an RBI groundout in his first AB to up his RBI total to nine, and he has just one HR through 72 AB. The team has downplayed the hip issues Delgado has been dealing with, but it's obvious that something isn't right as he has been awful to start the year.
April 8, 2008
Carlos Delgado remains hot as he went 2-for-4 with one RBI against the Phillies on Tuesday, while notably collecting his first homer of the season. Delgado is now hitting nine for 24 on the season.
April 7, 2008
Carlos Delgado went 2-for-4 on Sunday, his third straight outing with two hits. He is batting .350 through five games, but he has only one extra-base hit (double). "When you start the season, I try to get my guys to stay small and not try to get too big, especially the big boys who are accustomed to hitting home runs," manager Willie Randolph tells the New York Post. "For guys like that it's good just to start small and as you get more comfortable open up. It's a good approach, but we have to get the big knocks, too." Delgado battled hip problems this spring but seems to be swinging pretty well at the moment.
March 22, 2008
Carlos Delgado made his second consecutive start on Friday and according to the New York Post, looked none the worse from his hip ailment and lacerated forearm. A healthy Delgado that could reach 30 HR and sneak up on 100 RBI this year would make the Mets offense over-the-top good. The veteran first baseman is currently not considered a starting option in mixed formats, but his health and a run of hits during April could change fantasy perception.
March 16, 2008
Carlos Delgado was struck by a piece of a broken bat during Sunday's game, according to MLB.com. He was pulled from the game and needed four stitches to close a gash, but it shouldn't affect his preparation for the start of the season.
March 10, 2008
Carlos Delgado was hitless in two AB on Monday, his first game back since being diagnosed with a right hip impingement, this according to MLB.com. The good news is that Delgado was pain free today, and though he has a lot to prove this season after his 24 HR year in '07, Delgado could be a nice value play if he slips in your draft.
March 5, 2008
Carlos Delgado will work out with the team on Wednesday morning and could take some swings in the cage later in the day, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. Delgado has been dealing with a hip impingement.
March 2, 2008
Carlos Delgado was sent back to New York Satruday to undergo an MRI, the results of which came back negative, according to the New York Daily News. However, he's been diagnosed with an impingement in his hip that will keep him sidelined for a few days. While GM Omar Minaya insisted the injury isn't believed to be serious, the ailment is in the same part of the hip as the injury that cost him a couple of weeks in September. So there must be some legitimate concern here.
March 1, 2008
Carlos Delgado has been sent back to New York to undergo an MRI on his sore right hip, according to Newsday. "We don't expect it to be an extended situation," GM Omar Minaya said. "It's early in spring training and we wanted to get a look at it." Let's hope they're just being cautious, because Minaya added that the soreness is in the same area of Delgado's hip that bothered him last September. Delgado missed two weeks due to that injury.
February 18, 2008
Carlos Delgado feels that he will be able to rebound from a down 2007 for the Mets this season. Delgado thinks it was bad timing more than injures that limited him last year, and his manager agrees. "There's no doubt he struggled last year being consistent with his approach," Willie Randolph said. "He was good at times, but the Carlos Delgado we all know, I'm sure he's never had a year like that where he just really couldn't find that comfort zone." Delgado still hit 24 HR with 87 RBI, so it wasn't like he was a total bum, though he did lose a 10-year streak of 30 HR, 90 RBI seasons.
