Player Notes
June 22, 2008
B.J. Ryan converted his 15th save on Sunday by pitching a clean ninth inning for the Blue Jays.

Our View:After a couple of rocky outings, Ryan has now gone four outings without allowing run during which time he has walked only one while striking out four. Ryan has righted the ship and should be fine the rest of the way.
June 11, 2008
B.J. Ryan has endured a terrible start to June. His loss on Wednesday, his third in less than two weeks, came at the hands of the Seattle Mariners. In his last four innings of work he has yielded seven hits and three walks on his way to giving up six runs.

Our View:Ryan is certainly struggling but it does not appear he is in danger of losing his closer's role.
June 10, 2008
Closer B.J. Ryan has been named the DHL Delivery Man for May, according to MLB.com. Ryan earned the honor by going a perfect 10-for-10 in save opportunities in the month, while posting a 0.75 ERA, with just one run surrendered over 12 innings. He also fired 14 strikeouts.

Our View:This is quite impressive, considering Ryan is less than a year removed from his Tommy John ligament replacement surgery.
June 5, 2008
B.J. Ryan allowed a game-winning pinch hit home run by Jason Giambi on Thursday to pick up the loss and a blown save for the second straight outing.

Our View:After allowing just one run in his first 17 appearances, Ryan has now allowed five earned runs while only picking up four outs over his last two efforts. There are no signs that he is hurt so don't panic, but it's still a situation to keep a very close eye on.
June 1, 2008
B.J. Ryan hit Howie Kendrick with a bases-loaded fastball in the ninth inning to force in the tying run. One pitch later shortstop Maicer Izturis singled home the game-winner to give the Los Angeles Angels a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.

Our View:It was Ryan's first blown save in 13 attempts this season.
