The Dodgers could be re-thinking bringing back Vicente Padilla for the 2010 season after he accidentally shot himself in the leg in a bizarre accident in his home country of Nicaragua last week, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:Padilla's clutch pitching down the stretch last season had all the makings of a contract drive, and it may not be wise of the Dodgers to sink major dollars into a pitcher that was designated for assignment twice in the same season for being a clubhouse cancer in Texas. His 4.46 season ERA for 2009 was his lowest since 2003 with the Phillies.

According to the LA Times, Dodgers starter Vicente Padilla was treated for a minor gunshot wound in a Nicaragua hospital on Tuesday.

Our View:The wound was apparently self-inflicted and Padilla's agent is calling it a "hunting accident". The pitcher was treated for 30-40 minutes after being rushed to the hospital and it appears the bullet just grazed his leg. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be another "Plaxico situation" as the Dodgers were looking into resigning the revamped veteran next season.

Vicente Padilla came back down to Earth in a big way on Wednesday as the Dodgers were hammered by the Phillies in the deciding Game 5. Padilla lasted only three innings and allowed six runs on four hits while walking two and striking out three.

Our View:Padilla had been the best Dodger starter in the postseason, but he got absolutely hammered in this do-or-die game for LA. After being one of the best stories of the postseason, this is a tough way for Padilla and the Dodgers to go out.

MLB.com is reporting that Dodgers' manager Joe Torre is considering moving Vicente Padilla up in the rotation to pitch Game 5. Padilla would jump ahead of Game 1 starter Clayton Kershaw if Torre makes the move.

Our View:Padilla would be on regular rest thanks to an extra off-day, and he has been the team's best pitcher so far in the postseason. Torre hasn't made a decision yet, but we will let you know when he does.

Vicente Padilla only surrendered one earned run on four hits over 7.1 innings in Friday's 2-1 win over the Phillies in Game 2 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium. He had one walk and fired six strikeouts.

Our View:The Dodgers were trailing 1-0 when he exited, so Padilla took a no-decision rather than a win. He helped the Dodgers even the series at 1-1, and the club will try to move ahead in Game 3 at Citizens Bank Park.
