Chipper Jones got three hits in six at-bats, but it was not enough, as the Braves fell to the Nationals by the score of 7-4.

Our View:Jones is just one point behind Albert Pujols for the batting title as of Sunday, .359 to .358.
September 4, 2008
Updating an earlier story, Chipper Jones did indeed return to the lineup on Thursday night for the Braves after he awoke with little swelling in his injured knee, according to MLB.com. "I don't have any fluid in my joints," said Jones. The pain has subsided pretty quickly."

September 4, 2008
Braves third baseman Chipper Jones could return to the lineup on Thursday, as his injured right knee is healing, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

August 31, 2008
Chipper Jones has another malady to add to the list he's been battling this season: right elbow tendinitis, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

August 30, 2008
Chipper Jones went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-8 loss to the Nationals. He hit a double and a solo homer.

August 27, 2008
Braves third baseman Chipper Jones played in the 2,000th game of his career on Tuesday, according to ESPN.com. He has played each game of his career for one manager, Bobby Cox, and is the only player ever to do so.

Our View:Jones has arguably had a Hall of Fame career, and has the highest all-time batting average of any switch-hitter. He once again has delighted fantasy owners this season, and currently has a .357 average.
August 20, 2008
Chipper Jones had a tough night in the Braves 6-3 loss to the Mets. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against Mike Pelfrey.

Our View:Jones is no longer tearing it up in the batting average department, but he is still hitting over .300 for the month of August. A little more troubling is the fact that he has hit just three home runs since June 19.
August 19, 2008
The Braves and Mets locked it up on offense tonight with third baseman Chipper Jones doing the damage for Atlanta. Jones went 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored on the night. It wasn't nearly enough as the Braves fell, 8-3.

Our View:Chipper now has a hit in each of his three games back from the DL. He continues to march toward the batting title.
August 8, 2008
Chipper Jones surprisingly started on Friday night and the Braves are glad he did as he produced two hits, three runs and two RBI.

Our View:Jones was thought to be limited to pinch-hitting duties tonight, but he started his first game back off the DL and blasted his 19th home run while raising his average to .371.
August 8, 2008
Manager Bobby Cox suggested that Chipper Jones might be limited to pinch-hitting duty when he initially returns from the DL Friday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Cox said, "We'll see what happens. He might not be able to play right away. He might have to pinch-hit him for a few games." He was recovering from a left hamstring strain.

Our View:Jones insists that he is healthy and ready to return to the starting lineup, but Cox will ultimately make the decision regarding his playing status. Fantasy owners should have the weekend to see what his role is upon his return.
August 2, 2008
Chipper Jones will make his return from the disabled list on Friday, according to MLB.com. He fielded ground balls and took some batting practice on Saturday and says he is ready to go. "I feel great. Everything feels good. I'll be ready by Friday," he said.

Our View:Good news for fantasy owners, who have gotten a lot out of Chipper this season. His batting average will likely dip from the .369 it is at right now, but he should still be a valuable asset.
July 28, 2008
Chipper Jones has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring according to the AP. He should be able to return to the lineup when he's eligible.

Our View:Omar Infante started in his place last night and hit a home run. He should continue to get starts there although Martin Prado could see some starts as well. Neither is a very strong fantsy play.
July 27, 2008
Chipper Jones feels that he may need to go on the DL due to his strained left hamstring, according to MLB.com. Jones said, "It still bothers me just walking around. Doing anything baseball-related is a few days away, at the very least."

Our View:The Braves will wait at least one more day before making a decision as whether or not to place him on the DL.
July 25, 2008
Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is out of tonight's lineup and is doubtful for the weekend series against the Phillies because of a sore left hamstring, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "If I'm hurting just sitting here, it's not day-to-day. It's not going to be miraculously better tomorrow," he said.

Our View:Hamstrings are notorious for being nagging injuries, and it is unknown how long this injury will keep Jones out for. It is entirely possible he could be headed for the disabled list.
July 24, 2008
Chipper Jones is hopeful to avoid the DL due to his ailing hamstring, according to the AP.

Our View:He hopes to just miss a few games but still cannot rule out the DL. Jones will be re-evaluated Friday.
July 23, 2008
Chipper Jones injured his hamstring on Wednesday and was forced to leave the Braves game in the fourth inning, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Ugh. Jones is a walking injury report, yet more times than not he is able to drag his weary body out onto the field and perform at a high level. Given that he continues to have troubles with his legs, we wouldn't be shocked if this latest setback leads to some DL time, though the team is saying that the injury is relatively minor and won't require a stint on the injured list.
July 6, 2008
Chipper Jones sharp batting eye was on display on Sunday. He walked four times and hit 3-for-5 over 17 innings. He did not strike out, scored three runs, and drove in three more, one on a first inning solo blast.

Our View:Oh yeah, he also added his first triple of the season. This was Chipper's best game since his return from the disabled list. Let's hope he can maintain his grove and flirt with .400 for the remainder of the season.
July 2, 2008

July 1, 2008
Chipper Jones has returned to the Braves' starting lineup tonight, according to the AP.

July 1, 2008
Turns out Chipper Jones will not have to go on the disabled list, according to MLB.com. After reports that he was about set to be disabled today, Jones told manager Bobby Cox he was feeling better, and may be in the starting lineup tonight.

Our View:This is an amazing turnaround from the reports that surfaced just hours ago. And it's great news for fantasy owners, who should feel free to put him in their lineup.
June 30, 2008
Chipper Jones has missed eight straight games since aggravating his thigh injury, and could be headed for the DL, according to ESPN.com. Jones said there is a distinct possibility the team would sideline him, and he added, "Bottom line, I'd miss nine or 10 days that, quite frankly I'm probably going to need. About two days after I hurt it I had some improvement, but I haven't gotten any better since."

Our View:Manager Bobby Cox doesn't believe Jones is close to playing either. We will keep you posted on his status.
June 29, 2008
Chipper Jones has missed his eighth straight game on Sunday due to a strained quad, according to MLB.com. He doesn't know if he will be able to return on Tuesday and said, "As of right now, I'm not prepared to say that. I certainly hope I'm ready. I'm still in a lot of pain."

Our View:Jones still isn't able to run with more than 50 percent effort, but manager Bobby Cox remains hopeful to have him back on Tuesday, when the Braves begin a series against the Phillies.
June 28, 2008
The Braves are reporting progress for several of their injured players, including third baseman Chipper Jones, but none will return for interleague action today, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The Braves are also without Yunel Escobar and Omare Infante today. All three missing pieces took batting practice today and show signs of pending return, but the reports from MLB suggest they are all likely to sit on Sunday as well.
June 25, 2008
Chipper Jones was called upon to pinch-hit in the eighth on Wednesday, despite missing the previous four games due to a strained quad. He struck out.

Our View:Chipper was needed due to the rash of injuries the Braves have endured lately. On Wednesday, Yunel Escobar and Omar Infante joined the temporarily injured list. Don't expect to see Jones again before their weekend series in Toronto where he will likely DH.
June 23, 2008
Manager Bobby Cox said that Chipper Jones is likely to miss the entire series with the Brewers, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He's not ready," Cox said. "You never know with Chip — he could come in one day and say, 'I'm in no matter what.' " Chipper is nursing a strained right quad.

Our View:Chipper can DH this weekend in Toronto, so it seems likely he'll be held out of the starting lineup until then. He's probably available for pinch-hitting duty.
June 22, 2008
The Braves will be without third baseman Chipper Jones and shortstop Yunel Escobar today, both nursing injury and in need of rest, both missing their second consecutive game, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Jones continues to battle a strained right quad while Escobar has a strained right hip flexor, but the Braves believe both will be back soon and both are available to pinch hit today if needed. In their place, Omar Infante will start at short while Ruben Gotay gets the call at third.
June 20, 2008
Chipper Jones was forced from the Braves game on Friday night due to re-aggravating his strained right quadriceps, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The good news is that even though he appeared to suffer the injury in the fourth inning, he continued to play until being removed in the eighth for defensive purposes. Given the fact that he has been hampered for weeks by this injury, we wouldn't be shocked to see him miss the rest of the weekend series just to make sure he doesn't blow the muscle out.
June 19, 2008
Chipper Jones went 0-for-4 and his major league-leading batting average fell below .400 for the first time since April 12. He's hitting .394 after today's bagel.

Our View:It was inevitable. Jones' owners should be thrilled if the future Hall of Famer can hit .350-plus this season. More important than hitting for a high average: keeping the Braves in the postseason race so he's still playing in September and keeping the oft-injured third baseman upright.
June 18, 2008
Chipper Jones homered and went 2-for-5 to keep his major league-best batting average at .400.

Our View:In a terrific first inning at-bat against Rangers' rookie Eric Hurley the Braves' slugger hit a 3-2 pitch over the center field fence with two outs for his 16th dinger of the year.
June 16, 2008
Chipper Jones entered the game on Monday in a 2-for-15 slump and emerged from the matchup with the Rockies sporting two hits and two RBI.

Our View:The resent slump has Chipper's average down to .403, but he continues to come through in roughly two out of every five at-bats from the middle of the Braves order.
June 16, 2008
Chipper Jones was used as a DH on Sunday in inter-league action against the Angels, according to MLB.com. Mark Teixeira will likely serve as the DH for one of the games against his former Rangers' teammates this week.

Our View:Manager Bobby Cox used Jones as the DH in an effort to rest his legs, and the move was not related to his eye contusion. Omar Infante covered third base, but went 0-for-3.
June 14, 2008
Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones was back in action today sporting a black eye, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The Braves are going to be happy to have the face of offensive success for the league back in the batting order as they battle with the offensive-minded Angels. LA's pitching is rounding into form but having Chipper back and at 'em could be the difference. We'll update his results later this evening.
June 14, 2008
Braves manager Bobby Cox tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he expects Chipper Jones to play on Saturday. Jones was out on Friday after his batted ball ricocheted off the cage and hit him under the left eye.

Our View:We thought Chipper had suffered every injury in the book prior to Friday. We were wrong. Jones continues to dodge major ailments, but he has had a lot of little nicks and bumps this year.
June 13, 2008
Chipper Jones, who leads the majors with a .414 average, was scratched from the starting lineup after a suffering an accident during batting practice. He fouled off a pitch, and the ball ricocheted off the crossbar at the top of the batting cage and struck him just under his left eye.

Our View:Jones suffered a contusion and was taken for a CT scan which was negative. The team is listing him as day-to-day.
June 11, 2008
Chipper Jones (quadriceps) returned to the lineup on Wednesday night for a suddenly depleted Braves squad, according to MLB.com. "I'm sore, but I've got to go," said Jones. People are going to have to realize that I'm not dogging it," Jones said. "I'm just trying to stay in the game."

Our View:We have said this all along - the only thing likely to stop Chipper this season is his health, so it remains to be seen how he will manage given his less than 100% status right now.
June 10, 2008
Chipper Jones is not in the lineup for Tuesday's tilt against the Cubs. It will be the second straight game he's missed due to a small tear in his right quad. "I'm hoping maybe [to] be back in there tomorrow," Jones informs the AP. "It's better. I still can't run the way I need to. I wouldn't be able to run the bases. I don't know what kind of range I would have out at third base."

Our View:We haven't seen the lineup yet, but Omar Infante will likely get the start at third on Tuesday. We'll continue to follow Chipper's progress.
June 9, 2008
Chipper Jones has been named the NL Player of the Week, according to the Sports Network. Jones led the NL with a .579 (11-for-19) batting average, a 1.105 slugging percentage and a .652 on-base percentage for the week, with his 11 hits tying for the most in the league. June 8, 2008
Chipper Jones won't play Sunday and may miss one or two additional games due to a small tear in his right quadriceps, according to the AP. Chipper injured the muscle on April 9 and felt more soreness as the Braves' road trip continued. "I won't do anything today or tomorrow," he said. "I'll see how it feels after the off day. ... I'll probably miss a day or two in Chicago."

Our View:Omar Infante is in the lineup today in Chipper's place.
June 7, 2008
Chipper Jones produced the only two runs the Braves scored on Saturday with a 2-run home run, his 15th of the season.

Our View:Jones still reached base twice in four AB to leave his OBP at a Bondsian .503, while his .420 average is Cobbian.
June 6, 2008
Chipper Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he would like to play at least four more years and that he would prefer to spend those years with the Braves. "I don't think there's any reason I can't play through 40," he said, "long as I don't let my body go, which is not going to happen. I'm too active year-round to let my body go.

Our View:The Braves have an option that would pay Jones $8-11 million in '09 depending on performance, although it is expected that the number would be closer to $11 million. If Chipper were to hit the open market, healthy, he would garner more in the neighborhood of 15-16 million.
June 5, 2008
Chipper Jones had four hits, including the 400th home run of his career, for the Braves on Thursday night as he ended the contest batting .418. He also stole his first base of the season.

Our View:OK, this is starting to get serious. Two hits tonight came on balls that no one but Vladimir Guerrero gets hits on, but Chipper is just that locked in. Through a slightly more than a third of the season, Chipper has hit well over the magical .400 mark.
June 4, 2008
Chipper Jones had a scheduled day off and wasn't in Wednesday's lineup against the Marlins, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:He was replaced at third base by Omar Infante. Jones could appear as a pinch-hitter.
June 3, 2008
Third baseman Chipper Jones continues to carry the load for the Atlanta Braves as they earned a 5-4 win over Florida this evening. Jones went 2-for-4 at the dish, hitting his 13th home run of the season to total three RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View:Jones is now hitting .409 on the season, going 40-for-96 through May.
June 2, 2008
The season is now into June, and Chipper Jones is still hitting over .400 (.405), according to MLB.com. Jones will battle the Marlins next, a team he is batting .309 over his career against, with 35 homers and 137 RBI.

Our View:The Marlins will use two left-handed pitchers in the series against the Braves, but the switch-hitting Jones should remain hot.
May 26, 2008
Chipper Jones is back in the starting lineup on Monday after missing Sunday's game due to back spasms.

Our View:We didn't expect Chipper to miss more than a game or two.
May 25, 2008
Chipper Jones has been scratched for Sunday action, according to MLB.com. He has been forced out with an isolated spasm in the middle of his back. Jones said he may be able to pinch-hit and was feeling considerably better on Sunday morning after receiving treatments. Jones also stated that his back seized up while playing with his children on Saturday night. Unlike the back spasms that forced Jones to miss two games against the Mets on April 25 and 26, this pain is isolated. Kelly Johnson will now bat third in the Braves' lineup, and said, "Hopefully, he's only out this game. Because, no offense to me or anybody else, but we need his bat in the lineup."

Our View:Omar Infante will start at third base. Jones fought back ailments all season long, and is still impressively hitting .417 with 12 homers and 35 RBI over 46 games. We will keep you posted regarding his status.
May 22, 2008
Chipper Jones returned to action after fouling a ball off his shin on Wednesday and the injury had little effect as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Our View:Jones is now hitting .412 through 170 AB and he is once again proving that the only thing that is able to stop him on the field are the injuries that keep him off it.
May 21, 2008
Chipper Jones left Wednesday's game after he was hit by a pitch in the right shin. The third baseman said he'll try to play Thursday, though. "It's swollen up pretty good," said Jones in the AP. "We'll see. I'm sure it will feel good tomorrow."

Our View:Chipper is always dealing with something it seems. He should be OK, though, this time around.
May 20, 2008
Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones posted his 33rd RBI of the season as the Braves put the 6-2 loss on the Mets in the second game of their Tuesday double-header. Jones went 2-for-4 at the dish with his 10th double of the season with one RBI and one run scored.

Our View:This was Chipper's first RBI since May 14th, and while it is a small run of just five games (6-for-18), Jones is starting to slow just a bit.
May 16, 2008
Chipper Jones was scratched from the lineup Thursday with a groin strain, but he expects to play Friday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It's hard to sit out, especially after a good win last night," said Jones. "But I'm thinking bigger picture. If I can miss one game here and there to avoid missing six or seven, or a 15-day DL stint, then I have to be smart enough to be able to step aside for one game."

Our View:Chipper owners should be thrilled this ailment isn't a serious one, as the third baseman is scalding hot at the dish.
May 15, 2008
Chipper Jones tweaked his right groin in his last AB on Wednesday, and as a result the Braves will sit him out on Thursday night, according to MLB.com. The pain in the groin continued Thursday while hitting off a tee, but Chipper isn't likely headed to the DL with this latest ailment. "I feel confident that we'll get this thing knocked out and I will get back in there in no time," Jones said.

Our View:Jones is the heart of the Braves and all the fantasy teams he currently plays for thanks to a .418-11-32 line through 37 games. You know what you're getting with Chipper, and this is just one of those times that you have to be patient. Omar Infante figures to fill in.
May 14, 2008
Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones is working as one of the hottest bats in the league and continued to work as such this evening as the Braves dismissed the Phillies 8-6. Jones went 2-for-4 at the plate with one walk, hitting his 11th home run of the season in the 1st inning to set the tone for an offensive surge by the Braves.

Our View:Jones is now hitting .418 on the season, sitting at 20-for-46 (.435) with three homers and 11 RBIs.
May 13, 2008
Not ready to let the dream die, Chipper Jones had another three hits on Tuesday to push his average back up to .415.

Our View:At some point this will all come crashing to a halt, but with the way that Chipper is locked in right now it might take an injury to derail him as pitchers are having no luck whatsoever in slowing him down.
May 12, 2008
Chipper Jones went 3-for-4 in Monday's 5-0 loss to Pittsburgh in the early game of a double-header. He also drew one walk.

Our View:Jones raised his average to .410, and that was his fifth mult-hit game in May.

May 6, 2008
Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones enjoyed another strong night at the plate, helping his Braves earn a 5-3 win over the San Diego Padres. Jones went 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks, hitting his 10th home run of the season to gather two RBIs on the evening.

Our View:That brings Jones to 29 RBIs thus far with an impressive .426 batting average, one of the best starts he has enjoyed since his best days as the young offensive catalyst for the Braves. It certainly helped cover for the 0-for-4 performance of 1B Mark Teixeira hitting cleanup behind Jones (leaving five men on base).
May 4, 2008
Chipper Jones went 3-for-6 with a double, homer, and five RBI in Sunday's win over the Reds. He is hitting .425 with 27 RBI through 28 games.

Our View:Larry is up to 395 homers for his career, and there's been no better fantasy third baseman thus far in 2008. A-Rod, David Wright, Miggy Cabrera, and a few other hot corner denizens should eventually catch up to Chipper in the fantasy rankings, but not too many hitters can match what Jones does on a per-game basis.
April 29, 2008
Chipper Jones is back in the lineup Tuesday after missing a pair of games with back spasms.

Our View:Chipper will have his bumps and bruises throughout the year, but hopefully he'll avoid anything major.
April 28, 2008
The back spasms that have bothered Chipper Jones have subsided, and he is optimistic he could return to the Braves lineup on Tuesday against the Nationals, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:Martin Prado has performed well while filling in at third base, but he is not a worthy substitute for Jones, as he was hitting .433 over 90 at-bats with seven homers and 20 RBI before being forced out of action by his back.
April 27, 2008
Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones sat out his second consecutive game as the team reports he is struggling with back spasms.

April 26, 2008
Chipper Jones has been removed from the Braves' lineup after re-injuring his back while dressing for Saturday's game against the Mets, according to SI.com. He reportedly said that he threw his back out, and the severity of the ailment is yet to be decided.

Our View:Chipper is hitting .433 with seven homers over 23 games, and it took a back injury to slow him down. We will keep you posted on his status.
April 24, 2008
Chipper Jones celebrated his 36th birthday by going 3-for-3 with his seventh home run of the season on Thursday. On his birthday in his career he is hitting an amazing .500-5-8-10 in 36 AB.

Our View:Chipper is hitting .442 through 86 AB in just about the hottest stretch of his HOF career, which of course means he is just about ready to blow out something.
April 21, 2008
Chipper Jones is listed in the Braves lineup for Monday night despite a strained right quad, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Our View:We thought Larry might miss one game, but this confirms the injury (or aggravated injury) wasn't serious.
April 21, 2008
Chipper Jones doesn't expect to miss much time after aggravating his sore right quad on Sunday. "I'm going to try to [play] tomorrow," Jones tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "But if I wake up sore and it's sore just standing around, how's it going to be playing?" Manager Bobby Cox adds that Jones is questionable for Monday but is expected to be fine after that.

Our View:We won't be surprised if Chipper misses one game before returning to action. Fantasy owners should plan on starting him this week.
April 20, 2008
Chipper Jones irritated his strained right quad while while running out a double and left the Braves' game against the Dodgers on Sunday, according to the AP. Jones notably tweaked his right quad on April 9 at Colorado, and felt more soreness as the Braves’ road trip continued in Washington.

Our View:There are no more details at this time, and his status is yet to be updated.
April 18, 2008
Chipper Jones hit two home runs for the second straight game and knocked in four runs for the Braves on Friday night.

Our View:Jones is unconscious right now hitting .455 with six HR and 18 RBI in 16 games, and he is once again proving why talk of the HOF is 100% accurate.
April 17, 2008
Chipper Jones went 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBI to help the Atlanta Braves beat the Florida Marlins 8-0 on Thursday night.

Our View:Enjoy it while Chipper is healthy, because it's an inevitable occurrence that he will miss time to an injury at some point this year. Why shouldn't he join the rest of the Braves' disabled?
April 15, 2008
Chipper Jones has fared well over his career against Scott Olsen, tonight's opposing pitcher for Florida, according to MLB.com. Jones is hitting 8-for-13 with two homers, two doubles, and a triple versus Olsen.

Our View:Jones is hitting 20-for-49 with two homers this season, and remains a strong fantasy option for tonight.
April 13, 2008
Chipper Jones went 3-for-5 with a homer, double, one run, and two RBI in a loss to the Nationals on Sunday. He has a six-game hitting streak and is batting .408 on the young season.
