The Cubs officially announced their one-year, $3.3 million signing of Xavier Nady on Friday, according to the team's official site.

Our View:Nady can garner another $2.05 million in incentives based on games played. If healthy, Nady should serve as an excellent fourth outfielder for the Cubs and will likely start against left-handed pitchers.

Xavier Nady's one-year deal with the Cubs is worth $3.3 million in guaranteed money, with another $2 million possible based on "games played" incentives, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View:Another report out Tuesday cautioned not to consider Nady's signing with the Cubs a "formality" because of his extensive injury history. That being said, the Cubbies likely wouldn't have signed him if they weren't going to pass him in his physical.

After rumors circulated earlier on Tuesday that the Cubs were close to signing an outfielder, Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that they have landed former Yankee and Pirate Xavier Nady.

Our View:He'll be joining a crowded Cubs outfield, with Alfonso Soriano, Kosuke Fukudome and Marlon Byrd all already in tow in the Windy City. Considering he is coming off of his second Tommy John surgery, he could also be limited defensively to begin the season. That being said, when healthy, he's a considerably better hitter than Fukudome, and better than Byrd, too. Those facts, coupled with Soriano's injury-prone nature, and Nady's ability to play first base, mean he could see well over 400 at-bats in 2010, provided he stays healthy, of course.

Xavier Nady is believed to be on the Cubs' radar, according to FOX Sports.

Our View:Nady is on track to be ready for spring training following his recovery from Tommy John elbow surgery, and would fill Chicago's need for an experienced fourth outfielder. He could benefit by playing his home games at hitter-friendly Wrigley Field as well.

GM Brian Cashman stated that Xavier Nady's current asking price is above the Yankees' budget, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The 31-year-old outfielder is coming off Tommy John surgery, and New York may also feel that he is too much of a risk at his price tag.
