Here's the latest on the Josh Beckett injury situation according to the Boston Globe. Manager Terry Francona and GM Theo Epstein both said that Beckett hasn't suffered any type of setback with his elbow and the decision to send him to see Dr. Andrews is merely a precaution as the team wants to make sure Beckett is 100% before running him out there again.

Our View:Uh huh. With so much misinformation going on in terms of injury reports, we just don't know what to believe here. What we do know is that Daisuke Matsuzaka will take Beckett's spot in the rotation on Friday to face the White Sox.
August 28, 2008
Josh Beckett will not make his scheduled start on Friday and he will be forced to visit with Dr. James Andrews to determine what is going on with his injured elbow, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Whenever any pitcher goes to see Dr. Andrews for some elbow pain it usually doesn't turn into good news. At this point, counting on a big finish to '08 just isn't a bet you should make with Beckett.
August 27, 2008
Just because Josh Beckett remains on track to pitch on Friday night against the White Sox, it does not mean that his recent bout with elbow inflammation has been put in the rearview mirror, according to the MLB. "We have his long-term interests in mind here," said Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein. "Even though he's scheduled to pitch Friday, that doesn't mean we stop evaluating him on a daily basis and we stop making sure he's fully healthy and ready to pitch. We're going to keep monitoring him day in and day out. If it gets to a point where we don't think it's in his best interest to pitch, then he's not going to pitch."

Our View:The Sox are shooting to insure a spot in the playoffs, but they are not going to push Beckett to get there. If he shows any signs of pain or discomfort at all, they will be taking him off the mound.
August 26, 2008
Josh Beckett threw in the bullpen today with no difficulty, according to the Boston Herald. He remains on track to start Friday against the White Sox. Beckett hasn't pitched since Aug. 17 because of inflammation in his right elbow and numbness in his right arm. "He's ready to go and it's exciting," said manager Terry Francona. "Because he's excited, so are we."

Our View:Beckett owners can all breathe a collective sigh of relief.
August 23, 2008
Josh Beckett is also dealing with inflammation in his right elbow in addition to the numbness in his right arm. The earliest he could return to the rotation is Friday, according to MLB.com. "It's gotten better," Beckett said of the numbness. "We had the one day [Friday] where it kind of came back. That's why we decided to do what we did. It has gotten better. The treatment and stuff is definitely working."

Our View:The Sox say they are being extra cautious, so this doesn't seem like something to be overly concerned about, but obviously you should keep close tabs on it.
August 23, 2008
Josh Beckett, who has been experiencing tingling and numbness in his right arm (and hand), has been pushed back for a second time and is now scheduled to pitch on Friday against the White Sox at Fenway Park, according to the Providence Journal. His side session for Saturday was cancelled and manager Terry Francona said, "We're doing everything in our power to make sure this guy is able to go out and pitch like he can pitch. This gives him another three days of more routine and we can bump his side back to Tuesday. We all feel a little bit better about being overly cautious, but when it comes to somebody's arm, and their future, we need to do it."

Our View:The team does not want to rush Beckett back and risk losing him during the crucial final month of the regular season.
August 23, 2008
Josh Beckett, who has been experiencing tingling and numbness in his right arm, had no complaints after throwing off flat ground to pitching coach John Farrell for approximately 10 minutes Friday afternoon, according to the Boston Globe. He is scheduled to throw a side session today.

Our View:Barring a setback, he is scheduled to start Tuesday against the rival Yankees in the Bronx.
August 21, 2008
Josh Beckett is slated to throw a side session Friday, which is expected to give the Red Sox a better idea as to when he can return to the rotation, according to the Boston Herald. Beckett remains scheduled to pitch on Tuesday in New York, though there are hurdles to clear between now and then. Manager Terry Francona said, "The one thing we haven’t done is we haven’t let him throw. If he’s not ready, we won’t pitch him. We’ll just back him up again and I told him that." Beckett added, "There’s no real change. I probably won’t know anything until I throw."

Our View:While Francona indicated that some of the numbness or “tingling” in Beckett’s right hand has subsided, both Francona and Beckett acknowledged the biggest test will come when Beckett attempts to throw. The Sox have ruled out any major problems, saying the ailment was not related to circulatory issues or an aneurysm. One possible source of the problem is the ulnar nerve, the same nerve that runs through the funny bone and can cause a tingling sensation when aggravated.
August 20, 2008
Boston ace Josh Beckett remains on schedule to start for the Red Sox on Tuesday against the Yankees, though manager Terry Francona won't be terribly disappointed if the right-hander gets pushed back again, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Beckett's next start was moved from Saturday to Tuesday after he developed a sore right elbow that created numbness in his hand. Francona described the soreness as a "crick" in the pitcher's elbow that developed when he slept on it overnight. Francona reports Beckett is not likely to throw on the side until Friday though he is "begging" to pitch now.
August 19, 2008
Boston has pushed back the next start for pitcher Josh Beckett, according to the Boston Globe. Instead of pitching on Saturday, he will throw again on Tuesday.

Our View:Beckett has reportedly been experiencing numbness and tingling in his right arm, so the club decided to give him some extra time. Adjust your fantasy lineups accordingly.
August 17, 2008
There was plenty of offense going on the American League today, and the Blue Jays joined the party with an impressive 15-4 win over Boston. The Red Sox may have bigger issues, as indicated by the performance of starter Josh Beckett today. Beckett lasted just 2 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View:Beckett falls to 11-9 on the season with a 4.34 ERA. The boys calling the game openly questioned if Beckett may be nursing an unreported injury, noting his motion and technique were well out of form. We will track the situation as we anticipate the Sox are likey to send him for testing. Now is not the time to take chances with such a valuable commodity.
August 11, 2008
Josh Beckett simply dominated the White Sox on this night needing just 104 pitches to make it through eight innings in his 11th victory of the year. Beckett allowed a single run, didn't walk a batter, and struck out eight.

Our View:When on as he was on this night, it really matters little who is hitting as the batters have basically no chance of doing anything substantial. After being bombed for seven runs on July 30th, Beckett has allowed just three runs over his last two starts (1.84 ERA).
August 5, 2008
Josh Beckett ended his three-game losing streak on Tuesday night. He worked 6.2 innings against the Royals and allowed only four hits and two runs. Beckett walked two, struck out seven, and improved to 10-8.

Our View:It's nice to see Josh rebound after a July in which he posted a 5.74 ERA and allowed 41 hits over 31.1 innings. The Red Sox and fantasy teams both need him to be an ace down the stretch.
August 5, 2008
MLB.com reports Boston Red Sox SP Josh Beckett (9-8, 4.15 ERA) will start Tuesday, August 5, against the Kansas City royals.

Our View:Beckett looks to bounce back from his last start in which he gave up 11 hits and seven earned runs to the Angels last week.
July 30, 2008
Boston RHP Josh Beckett suffered through one of his worst outings this season, taking the 9-2 loss against the Angels. Beckett pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Our View:Beckett now sits at 9-8 on the season with a 4.15 ERA. He is 2-3 for July, having surrendered a troublesome 20 earned runs over those five starts.
July 25, 2008
Josh Beckett went toe-to-toe with Joba Chamberlain and the Yankees but lost 1-0, throwing a solid seven innings, allowing nine hits and one earned runs while striking out six.

Our View:Beckett was good, but Joba was better. Beckett deserved to get a win, but his teammates could not push a run across the board.
July 19, 2008
Josh Beckett completed his first game of the season Saturday. Unfortunately, he also picked up his sixth loss of the season. Becket allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out six over eight frames in a loss in Anaheim.

Our View:Beckett was undone by a four-run seventh inning, which included a Vlad Guerrero homer and Erick Aybar base-clearing triple.
July 9, 2008
Josh Beckett allowed five runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out two, and the Red Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins 18-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

Our View:Beckett gave up three first-inning runs and then settled down before offering up his final two offerings in the sixth inning. The right-hander wasn't sharp, but he received the run support to battle through five innings of work and earn his ninth win of the season.
July 4, 2008
Josh Beckett was in control on the mound in Friday's 6-4 win over the Yankees in the Bronx, as he allowed three earned runs on four hits over six innings, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Beckett improves to 8-5, with a 3.70 ERA. That was his second win at hostile Yankee Stadium this season.
June 23, 2008
Josh Beckett was terrific on Monday, but it wasn't enough. The righty allowed just two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over eight innings, but he was trumped by Dan Haren.

Our View:Beckett was a tough-luck loser tonight, but with 36 wins over the previous two seasons, he has been the beneficiary of good luck in the past.
June 23, 2008
Josh Beckett will take the hill tonight when the Red Sox host the Diamondbacks at Fenway Park, according to MLB.com. Beckett is 7-4 with a 3.87 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 2008, but is 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA in five starts against Arizona.

Our View:His only win against Arizona did come last season as he only allowed two earned runs over eight innings, and he hurled seven scoreless innings in his last start against Cincinnati. Keep him active in your lineups.
June 18, 2008
Due to an off-day on Thursday, the Red Sox will shift around their rotation and push Josh Beckett to Monday, the Boston Globe reports. Tim Wakefield, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Jon Lester will pitch this weekend. "We talk about building in rest," manager Terry Francona says. "Josh knew all along. He's fine."

Our View:Beckett is now in line to start twice next week, rather than twice this week. It's not big news unless your fantasy league allows daily transactions.
June 15, 2008
Josh Beckett received plenty of run support in his first career victory over the Reds, who hit him hard the two times he faced them with Florida. Beckett allowed six hits, walked two and struck out six over seven scoreless innings.

Our View:Beckett won his seventh game against four losses and improved his ERA from 4.22 to 3.87 in the effort.
June 10, 2008
Josh Beckett will make his 12th start of the season tonight against the Orioles at Fenway Park, according to MLB.com. Beckett is 6-4 with a 4.07 ERA and 1.10 WHIP this season.

Our View:Beckett has only allowed five earned runs in his last 19 innings of work, with 24 strikeouts over the span. Keep him active in your rotation against the 31-31 Orioles.
June 4, 2008
Josh Beckett allowed one run in six innings of work, and the Red Sox won their 12th consecutive home game. Beckett issued seven hits, no walks and struck out five in the win.

Our View:Beckett left the game after only 92 pitches spiking internet blogs with rumors of "injury". The 20-game winner slipped on the wet mound and suffered a slight foot sprain. Red Sox manager Terry Francona and assistant trainer Mike Reinold went to the mound and Beckett stayed in the game to finish the six inning, his final frame in the win.
June 4, 2008
Following up on an earlier report, according to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox announced that Josh Beckett is OK. The report noted that the right-hander did not leave the game due to an injury.

Our View:There was some concern that Beckett left the game after 92 pitches because of a leg injury. The fact that the Red Sox rebuked the report is good news for the Red Sox Nation and his fantasy owners.
June 4, 2008
Josh Beckett went six innings in Thursday's night battle with first place Tampa Bay. The right-hander allowed seven hits and one run. He struck out five and walked none -- and left with a 4-1 lead. Manny Delcarmen replaced Beckett in the seventh inning.

Our View:Beckett left after 92 pitches. The 20-game winner was favoring his leg in the sixth inning and his removal might be due to a undisclosed leg injury. More information on Beckett when the information is available.
May 30, 2008
Josh Beckett only allowed two runs on four hits over six innings in Friday's 5-2 win over the Orioles, with three walks and 10 strikeouts. He ended the night with a no decision, in a game that went 13 innings. Jacoby Ellsbury notably recorded three stolen bases tonight for Boston as well.

Our View:This was a strong outing for him despite not claiming a win, and he has now racked up 28 strikeouts over his last three starts.
May 18, 2008
Josh Beckett picked up his fifth win of the season on Sunday despite allowing six runs in seven innings against the Brewers. Beckett had nine strikeouts but allowed four home runs.

Our View:Beckett has been dogged by home runs in the past, so today's effort was a bit troubling. Through eight starts Beckett owns a 4.67 ERA which speaks to his inconsistent performance thus far.
May 13, 2008
The Red Sox got in hole early and were unable to bring it back, suffering the 5-4 loss to Baltimore. Ace Josh Beckett let the early innings get away, handed a 3-run lead in the first only to watch it fall as he surrendered five runs (all earned) on 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings of work. Beckett walked two, struck out five, but the end result was his third loss of the season.

Our View:Beckett has been a puzzle during these early weeks but seems to have things back on track after consecutive wins to start the month of May, going deep in both with one walk and 13 strikeouts combined. Tonight shows he still has work to do.
May 8, 2008
Josh Beckett dominated the vaunted Tigers lineup on Thursday night for seven innings as he held them to one run on six hits and no walks. He also punched out eight batters to improve to 4-2.

Our View:Beckett has allowed more than three earned runs in just one of his last five starts and appears to be in total control of his arsenal once again after battling injury early on.
April 27, 2008
In what seems to be a strong day for pitching in the AL, Boston RHP Josh Beckett gave his team every attempt to earn a win over the Tampa Bay Rays, but the offensive support failed to take form and his efforts went to waste as the Sox fell 0-3. Beckett pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, walking just one and racking up an impressive 13 strike outs.

Our View:The 13 strike outs is a career high for Beckett, but Boston's fifth consecutive loss has Beckett frustrated with his second loss of the season.
April 24, 2008
Josh Beckett, who is nursing a stiff neck, pitched a successful bullpen session this morning, according to the Boston Globe. He is back on track to start on Sunday against the Rays.

Our View:You can breathe easy again following this news. Beckett holds a 5.12 ERA, but he is still off to a strong start as he racked up 16 strikeouts over 19.1 innings, with a 1.03 WHIP. He is safe to count on for Sunday.
April 22, 2008
Josh Beckett has been pulled from tonight's start against the Angels due to a stiff neck, according to the Boston Globe. David Pauley will start in his place.

Our View:We will keep you posted on the severity of his ailment, and hopefully it isn't related to his previous back injury.
April 22, 2008
Josh Beckett is set to make his fourth start of the season today, against the Angels, according to MLB.com. He is 2-1 with a 5.12 ERA so far this season, and notably hurled a four hit complete game against the Angels in Game 1 of last season's Divisional Series.

Our View:He is off to a favorable start, and should fare well against the Angels today.
April 12, 2008
Josh Beckett allowed three runs over 6.2 innings to pick up his first victory of the season against the Yankees.

Our View:Beckett allowed only five hits on the day while picking up five K, and he appeared to be throwing nice an easy following his bout with injury earlier in the year.
April 12, 2008
Josh Beckett is set for his second start of the season today as Boston battles hated rival New York, according to MLB.com. He gave up five earned runs in his first game back (at Toronto), but could fare better today at home, as he was 9-5 with a 4.17 ERA at Fenway in 2007.

Our View:This should be a great test for the Red Sox ace, as he continues to regain his strength.
April 6, 2008
Josh Beckett returned to the mound on Sunday against Toronto, but ended the day with a loss as he surrendered five runs on three hits (one home run) over 4.2 innings of work, with four walks and six strikeouts, as Boston ultimately fell 7-4. He lost, but it was great to see him back in action, and his six strikeouts were very positive. He should continue to get stronger with each start, and his fantasy stock is back on the rise.
April 6, 2008
As expected, Josh Beckett will return to the starting rotation today against Toronto, according to ESPN.com. He has been activated off the DL and will battle Roy Halladay. We will post news on his performance following the game.
April 5, 2008
Boston ace Josh Beckett is expected to return from his stint on the DL and make his first start of the season, according to the Providence Journal. Manager Terry Francona told reporters Beckett should be in but will be closely monitored, thus we expect the low pitch count to be in full effect. "We expect he'll give everything he has, but we know he's not going to pitch a complete game," said Francona. Beckett has been struggling with lower back pain and reports of an undisclosed hip injury have also persisted. Also, keep in mind the Red Sox need to make room for Beckett on the roster, so someone will go (rumors indicate RHP David Aardsma is the likely candidate).

Josh Beckett played long toss and then threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Friday, saying afterwards that it went great, according to the Providence Journal. Beckett, who's dealing with a sore back, is slated to pitch in an intrasquad game on Sunday. "There are still some peaks and valleys," he said. "That first week I felt better every other day, and then every other day I felt worse. Now I'm at a point where I can do every thing I need to do in between starts or bullpens. I've progressed, but it's only been in the last week where I can start to put a time table when I can get on the mound." But I think the first step toward his game progression will likely go through another bullpen." Farrell added that he could get into a minor league game on Sunday.
March 18, 2008

March 11, 2008

"I don't think we know [for sure] yet," Francona said. "But we're certainly not going to rush him back to pitch a game March 24 if he's not ready. And I think if you look at it with common sense, he's not going to pitch over there." At this point, the injury doesn't appear to be anything that should bother him long-term, but it sounds like he won't be ready to go in two weeks. It's something to keep an eye on, but if he returns to workouts soon, he should be ready when the full season gets going next month.

He had trouble sleeping last night, and didn't feel much better after undergoing treatment this morning, even though an MRI revealed no issues with the disks in his lower back. He said,"Today wasn't as good as yesterday. We'll just have to wait and see I guess. Doctors told me yesterday that there was a possibility I'd come in and feel like I do today so as far as that goes, the doctors were right." When asked if he would be ready to go for the 24th he added,"I don't know. If I'd had as much progress from yesterday to today as I did from the first day to the second day, I wouldn't have ruled that out. Today I'm just holding up my obligation (to talk to media). It probably would have been better to talk to you guys yesterday because I was a little more optimistic. I'm in a pretty crappy mood as far as this thing goes because it was a pretty frustrating day because yesterday was good and today's kind of horse(bleep)." He then said this when asked when he thinks he will pitch again, "We're going to make sure it's completely pain free. I can't even really if laying in one position too long, or sitting in one position too long or standing in one position too long it kind of goes backwards. I've got to keep moving and stuff like that." Beckett will continue to drop down fantasy draft boards following this news.

Josh Beckett breezed through two innings on Thursday allowing no runs, as the Red Sox went on to a 24-0 victory over Boston College. Beckett wasn't happy with his work on the hill so he went to the bullpen after his outing to work on his curveball, which he seemed to find. All systems are go with Beckett, and all the Sox are really looking for from him at this point is to avoid injury.
