Player Notes

Through six Cactus League contests this spring, Jim Edmonds is hitting .429, according to Fox Sports.

Our View:He will certainly make the team, and if he continues to play this well, you almost have to wonder if he will steal a decent number of at-bats from the light-hitting Carlos Gomez. Stay tuned.

In preparation for his 2010 comeback, outfielder Jim Edmonds has recently been hitting with former teammate Albert Pujols, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:"I'm through the roof right now," Edmonds said of his current state-of-mind. "Hitting with Albert really helps. I had a good week with him. It's coming back fast." He figures to be Milwaukee's fourth outfielder, and despite being 39, he could see a good amount of time in the field considering his famous defensive ability.

Jim Edmonds said that Milwaukee told him he'd get a chance to play every day against right-handed starters, according to InsideSTL.com's Tim McKernan.

Our View:Not so fast, Jimmy... first you have to make the roster. If Edmonds indeed looks good in spring training and makes the Brewers' opening day roster, he could potentially be worth a look in NL-only leagues.

Updating an earlier item, Jim Edmonds has officially agreed to a minor-league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:Jimmy Ballgame will be given a chance this spring training to make the club as a reserve outfielder. Seeing as his main competition is Jody Gerut, he'll likely make the cut unless he has absolutely nothing left in the tank. Stay tuned.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Milwaukee Brewers are poised to sign former Cardinals and Angels outfielder Jim Edmonds.

Our View:Edmonds announced earlier this month that he wanted to attempt a comeback after sitting out all of 2009, and immediately drew a good deal of interest. Although his first preference appeared to be a reunion with the Cardinals, he will likely gladly settle for getting a chance to beat them 15-or-so times in 2010. The deal is a minor-league one, but it's hard to believe he won't make the club's final roster.
