J.D. Closser, out of the big leagues since 2006, has signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers.

Our View:In 447 at-bats for the Rockies between 2004 and 2006, Closser hit .239 with 10 home runs. His chances of appearing in the majors next year are slim.

The A's acquired J.D. Closser from the Brewers on Friday in exchange for Charles Thomas, according to the AP. Closser, who was hitting just .188 with two homers and six RBI in 17 games at Triple-A Nashville, will provide Oakland with some depth at the catcher position following the injury to Mike Piazza.

J.D. Closser cleared waivers on Wednesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He was hitting .381 this spring, so the Brewers were concerned he might get claimed, but he'll now start the season with Triple-A Nashville.

The Rockies recalled J.D. Closser from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Closser hit .203 in 79 at-bats for the Rockies earlier this season.

The Rockies sent J.D. Closser to Triple-A to make space on the roster for Danny Ardoin, who just returned from the disabled list, according to the AP. Closser hit just .197 in 76 at-bats with the big-league club.
