Player Notes
September 25, 2008
Roy Oswalt won his 17 game of the year on Thursday night when the Astros beat the Reds 8-6. Oswalt went six innings giving up one run on only six hits.

Our View:Tonight's win was already Oswalt's fifth win in the month of September. If somehow the Astros can move into a tie for the wild card Oswalt would start on Monday in a one game playoff.
September 24, 2008
Manager Cecil Cooper hopes to start Roy Oswalt on short rest (three days) Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Oswalt will consider it if the Astros are still in the wildcard race, and he said, "I don’t know for sure we’re going on it. It all depends on the first two days of the Reds series. We’ll play it by ear the next two days."

Our View:Assuming Houston remains in the wildcard hunt, Oswalt will pitch Thursday, and then likely try to pitch again on short rest Monday, potentially giving him two more starts in the regular season for fantasy owners.
September 21, 2008
Roy Oswalt won his 16th game of the year on Sunday as he struck out four Pirates while holding Pittsburgh to just one run in six innings.

Our View:Since the start of August Oswalt is 8-2 with an ERA of 1.99. After a miserable start, Oswalt is right back where he always seems to be, that is near the top of the starting pitchers in the NL with his 16-10 record, 3.60 ERA, 162 K and a 1.19 WHIP.
September 19, 2008
Roy Oswalt may pitch on short rest Saturday against the Pirates to line up in case the Astros need to play September 29 against the Cubs with the playoffs on the line, according to the Houston Chronicle. If the Astros have playoff implications after their September 28 game against the Braves, Oswalt would start the next day. The Astros will consider the wild-card standings before opting to have Oswalt go on three days of rest instead of the usual four.

Our View:Oswalt is still under 200 innings (196.2) this season, and can likely handle pitching on short rest. He is averaging nearly eight innings over his last six starts, which shows he is not wearing out.
September 16, 2008
Roy Oswalt struck out 10 Marlins hitter Tuesday, but he also allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk over six innings.

Our View:Well, Oswalt finally gave up a run. He's been brilliant in the second half, but tonight he wasn't good enough.
