Player Notes
October 5, 2008
CC Sabathia may not be on his way out of Milwaukee as widely assumed, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. "The Brewers will be in, unless the money gets crazy," said an unnamed source. Heyman stated that the Brewers might consider going "into the low nine figures (over $100 million)" to bring CC back.

Our View:Look, as much as we would love to see the workhorse return to Milwaukee, Sabathia has already stated that he will play anywhere as long as the team has a chance to win. Not that the Brewers don't have that chance, but if the Yankees offer Sabathia $140 million plus there is just no way that the Brewers will be able to match that, which means that CC won't be wearing a Brewers uniform in 2009.
October 3, 2008
The New York Yankees and New York Mets are likely going to get into a bidding war for pitcher CC Sabathia, according to the Bergen Record.

Our View:Despite Sabathia's continued overuse by the Brewers and subsequent 3.2-inning performance, he will easily be the most coveted free agent on the market, and the Yankees and Mets will have to fight with California clubs for his services.
October 2, 2008
CC Sabathia was rocked for five earned runs on six hits over 3.2 innings in Thursday's 5-2 loss in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Phillies, with four walks and five strikeouts.

Our View:Sabathia was dominant in the regular season with Milwaukee, but failed to come through tonight, and the club is now one loss away from elimination.
October 1, 2008
CC Sabathia will pitch on Thursday in Game 2 of the NLDS on three-days rest for the fourth straight start.

Our View:He will face an imposing Phillies lineup in a hitter-friendly park but we have no reason to doubt Sabathia in any situation.
September 28, 2008
CC Sabathia tossed a complete game against the Cubs in the Brewers 3-1 victory on Sunday. He allowed four hits, no earned runs and struck seven. With a Mets loss, the Brewers will make the playoffs.

Our View:CC improves to 11-2 with the Brewers this season. He managed to lower his ERA down to just 1.65 and he will likely receive MVP votes due to his impressive workload and consistency he displayed since the midseason trade that sent him to the NL. He threw seven complete games in 17 starts for the Brewers.
September 24, 2008
CC Sabathia moved to 10-2 with the Brewers when they defeated the Pirates 4-2 on Wednesday. Despite pitching on three days' rest for the second consecutive start, Sabathia went seven innings and struck out 11 while giving up just one run.

Our View:Sabathia has more strikeouts than innings pitched in 2008 which will make him a very rich man when he becomes a free agent after this season.
September 23, 2008
Brewers left-hander CC Sabathia will pitch on three days' rest for the second start in a row, according to Brewers.com. "I was so protected early in my baseball career that it's allowing me to do some things like this," Sabathia said.

Our View:The team also said that Sabathia might turn around and start on three days' rest for the team on the final day of the season if necessary. The Brewers only have him for one more week and are seemingly unconcerned about any long-term damage that may occur to him, so there's no reason for them to hold back.
September 20, 2008
CC Sabathia allowed one earned run on seven hits over 5.2 innings in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Reds, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View:He pitched well, but has lost his second straight start. He was pitching on three days rest.
September 19, 2008
CC Sabathia will start on three days rest according to the Journal-Sentinel. "CC on three days rest is as good an option as we have," said interim manager Dale Sveum. "It wasn't a hard sell. He was fired up."

Our View:Sabathia has never pitched on three days rest, except a brief stint as a rookie with Cleveland to align the post-season rotation, but said he was up for it. "I know we're kind of hurting," said Sabathia. "We've got some guys down. We've got to do whatever we can to get in (the playoffs)." As usual, you can't afford to sit Sabathia, rested or not.
September 16, 2008
CC Sabathia suffered his first loss as a member of the Brewers Tuesday, as he allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out five over seven innings.

Our View:Stop the presses, as C.C. hasn't won in three starts this month.
September 16, 2008
Surprisingly, it could be a tough day for Brewers pitcher CC Sabathia against the Chicago Cubs. Players on Chicago's roster who have faced the beefy lefty have combined for a career .337 average, .413 on-base percentage and .526 slugging percentage against him. Leading the way for the Cubs is Alfonso Soriano, who has a .345 average and four home runs in his career off Sabathia.

Our View:By no means does this mean fantasy owners should remove Sabathia from their lineups. It is simply a caution that he may not be his usual dominating self Tuesday. Of course, it would surprise no one if he went out and threw a complete game shutout either.
September 10, 2008
CC Sabathia pitched his 13th game for the Brewers on Friday, and though he didn't win has also hasn't lost since joining the club. He went seven innings against the Reds allowing three runs on eight hits with one walk. He struck out eight in the outing.

Our View:This was only the second time in those 13 starts that he has allowed as many as three earned runs, and it was the 11th time that he completed at least seven innings as he finished the game with a 1.59 ERA. He'll likely need to win the rest of his starts to have a shot at the Cy Young award.
September 5, 2008
CC Sabathia struck out nine in seven innings in a no-decision appearance against the Padres on Friday night. He gave up five hits and just one run. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-out RBI. Milwaukee won 3-2 in 11 innings.

Our View:Sabathia continues to dominate the NL as he has not yet lost in his new league after 12 games.
September 3, 2008
CC Sabathia will not be credited with a no-hitter after MLB upheld the official scorer's ruling from Sunday's game, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Although he wont be granted a no-hitter, Sabathia is 9-0 with a 1.43 ERA with six complete games since joining Milwaukee and just collected his second NL-pitcher of the month award.
September 3, 2008
CC Sabathia has been named the NL Pitcher of the Month for August, according to the AP. Sabathia posted a 5-0 record with a 1.12 ERA during the month.

Our View:He has won the monthly pitching honor in the NL for July as well, and is impressively 9-0 with a 1.43 ERA with six complete games since joining Milwaukee this season.
September 2, 2008
With CC Sabathia earning his ninth Brewers victory without a loss lowering his ERA to 1.43, he has been the hot topic in the debate for National League Most Valuable Player and the Cy Young award race.

Our View:No player in the league has made more of an impact on his team than Sabathia has, but can a player win the MVP when he's been in the league for less than half a season?
September 1, 2008
The Milwaukee Brewers are appealing a scoring rule that gave Andy LaRoche of Pittsburgh a base hit off of pitcher CC Sabathia, instead of an error. The reason it's a big deal is that Sabathia allowed no other hits the entire day, and the team wants him to have a no-hitter, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "That's a joke. That wasn't even close. Whoever the scorekeeper was absolutely denied major-league baseball a nice no-hitter, right there. That's sad. It's just sad. He accomplished a no-hitter and wasn't given what he deserved," said Brewers manager Ned Yost.

Our View:The play in question was difficult to score, as Sabathia failed to pick the ball up. Whether or not LaRoche would have beat it out will never be known. It would be somewhat of an odd no-hitter though, as Sabathia would not have had to face the normal pressure of getting through the eighth and ninth innings knowing he could accomplish the feat.
August 31, 2008
CC Sabathia tossed a one-hit shutout against the Pirates on Sunday. He walked three and struck out 11. Sabathia is 9-0 since coming over from the Indians and has tossed six complete games in his 11 NL starts.

Our View:Can a guy spend only three months in the NL and still win the Cy Young? Sabathia clearly loves the Senior Circuit. His fantasy value is soaring right now, and it will remain high if he sticks in the NL next year.
August 29, 2008
The New York Yankees are already talking about going after free agents CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett in the offseason, according to New York Newsday. "Everybody's looking at [CC] Sabathia and [A.J.] Burnett, not just us. We'll see. The main concern is, are their arms going to be OK after this season?" asked Hank Steinbrenner.

Our View:Steinbrenner's desire to get better will be a driving force behind their attempts to land one, or both, of the pitchers. And it will certainly drive the prices up for both hurlers.
August 28, 2008
CC Sabathia is yet to lose with Milwaukee as he is 8-0 with a 1.59 ERA since joining the club, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:He has a strong chance to keep his winning streak going on Sunday as he faces a Pirates' club that has lost seven straight games and sits in the cellar of the NL Central.
August 24, 2008
Reports from unnamed major league GMs indicate there are a long list of teams that will carry little-to-no interest in offering free-agent-pitchters-to-be CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets big-dollar contracts in free agency at season's end, according to the Boston Globe. "Sabathia's body scares me; he's almost 300 pounds," said the GM. "Sheets has put together a good season, but his history of injuries makes it tough to commit that kind of money to."

Our View:It would seem someone will come up and offer the right kind of money, but it would not be a bad thing if the power men of this game stopped spending so unwisely and brought the market for arms down a bit. Only time will tell, but we find it hard to believe both players will not get paid.
August 18, 2008
CC Sabathia was dynamite for the Brewers again Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on 11 hits and two walks while striking out nine in a 9-3 win over Houston. C.C. completed his fifth game for the Brew Crew, and he's now 8-0 with a 1.60 ERA since arriving in Milwaukee.

Our View:It was surprising to see the Brewers let Sabathia throw 130 pitches in a lopsided game, but at least he'll get an extra day of rest before his next start.
August 8, 2008
CC Sabathia continued his domination on Friday night as he held the Nationals scoreless in a complete game shutout to improve to 6-0 as a Brewer.

Our View:Crazy thought, but could Sabathia win the NL Cy Young award if he keeps this up? In seven starts with the Brewers CC has four complete games, six victories, and a 1.58 ERA. No one has been more dominant since he pulled on the Brewer uniform.
August 4, 2008
CC Sabathia has been named the NL Pitcher of the Month for July, according to the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel. Sabathia earned the monthly honor by going 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA over five starts.

Our View:For the season, Sabathia is 11-8 with a 3.28 ERA and 1.16 WHIP, and is still yet to lose a start as a member of the Brewers.
August 2, 2008
CC Sabathia was in control in Saturday's 4-2 win over Atlanta, as he only issued two earned runs on six hits over 8.1 innings of work, with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Our View:He claimed his 11th win of the season, and is yet to lose a start with the Brewers.
July 29, 2008
Brewers hurler CC Sabathia spent nearly $13,000 on an ad in the Cleveland Plain-Dealer thanking Indians fans for their support of him over the years, according to Bill Lubinger of the Plain-Dealer.

Our View:A nice thing for Sabathia to do. If Brewers manager Ned Yost cuts back on Sabathia's pitch count a little bit, there is no doubt the lefty's agent, Brian Peters, will take out a similar ad in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
July 28, 2008
CC Sabathia threw 124 pitches one start after throwing a complete game for the Brewers. This time he lasted just 6.2 innings and did not factor into the decision of a 6-4 Brewers loss against the Cubs. He gave up nine hits and walked two while the Cubs tallied four runs against him.

Our View:The Brewers have to be careful not to wear out their new co-ace before the playoffs. However, they will likely maximize his efforts in the big games. The problem is that the race is so tight right now, every start is a big one.
July 23, 2008
CC Sabathia tossed his third straight complete game for the Brewers as he shutout the Cardinals in their 3-0 victory no Wednesday night.

Our View:Sabathia for NL Cy Young? He is now 4-0 with a meager 1.36 ERA along with 31 K in 33 IP. There is no one more locked in than Sabathia at the moment, and as Vince Vaughan would say in Swingers, the guy is "money."
July 19, 2008
CC Sabathia was absolutely dominant for the Brewers, pitching a complete game, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out 10 in the team's 9-1 victory over San Francisco. This was Sabathia's second complete game in a row, and he has allowed just five earned runs in 24 innings with the Brewers. He also doubled in the contest.

Our View:Sabathia has been destroying the opposition , and if you were lucky enough to pick him up in NL-only leagues, he has provided quite a boost to your fantasy squad.
July 13, 2008
CC Sabathia will soon earn the nickname Super C.C. in Milwaukee, especially if he can help the team make the playoffs for the first time in decades. The lefty hit a home run and pitched a complete game helping the Brewers avoid being swept by the Reds on Sunday afternoon.

Our View:Sabathia homered off Reds' starter Homer Bailey in the third, his third career home run and scattered eight hits and giving up two earned runs for his second straight NL victory.
July 8, 2008
CC Sabathia picked up the W in his first outing in a Brewers' uniform. He lasted six innings, striking out five, walking five and surrendering five hits to go with two earned runs.

Our View:Not a bad start for CC, but not dominant either. It was the most walks he had issued since April 16. Look for that number to calm down with his nerves in future starts.
July 7, 2008
The C.C. Sabathia trade has been made official, according to the AP. It has been announced that Sabathia was traded to the Brewers in exchange for left fielder Matt LaPorta, pitchers Rob Bryson and Zach Jackson, as well as a player to be named.

Our View:Sabathia was 3-0 in his final five starts with Cleveland, with two scoreless outings over the span. He will provide a tremendous 1-2 punch alongside ace Ben Sheets, and remains a must-start as a fantasy hurler. Sabathia should also receive much better run support from his new club.
July 6, 2008
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the Indians and Milwaukee have agreed on a deal involving C.C. Sabathia

Our View:Brewers top prospect Matt LaPorta is reported to be on his way to Cleveland. Sabathia could make his Brew Crew debut Tuesday night at home against Colorado. Sabathia's fantasy value will increase thanks to his new offense and NL opponents.
July 5, 2008
The Milwaukee Brewers continue to pursue C.C. Sabathia, but according to a report on ESPN they haven't yet offered a package of players strong enough to entice the Indians.

Our View:Matt LaPorta would likely be at the center of any deal, but the Brewers have apparently trying to fill in around him with a couple of lesser prospects instead of another blue chipper. If the Brewers cannot work out a deal, the Phillies, Dodgers and Rays appear to still be in on the action according to Buster Olney.
July 4, 2008
The Milwaukee Brewers may be in position to make a trade for C.C. Sabathia very soon, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He believes they might give up top prospect Matt LaPorta in order to land Sabathia.

Our View:Sabathia would certainly make the Brewers a contender, not only for the National League Central division, but the World Series as well. A duo of Sabathia and Ben Sheets would be very tough to beat.
June 27, 2008
C.C. Sabathia hurled eight scoreless innings, on only four hits allowed, in Friday's 6-0 victory over the Reds in Cleveland, with two walks and 11 strikeouts.

Our View:Sabathia has won three of his last four decisions, and reached double digits in strikeouts in three straight. He has only allowed one earned run over his last 15 innings additionally.
June 27, 2008
The Tampa Bay Rays may wind up being the front runners for Indians hurler C.C. Sabathia, according to Fox Sports columnist Ken Rosenthal. Their farm system is loaded and they wold be content to get the draft picks he would bring them should Sabathia eventually depart as a free agent.

Our View:The thought of the Rays being a serious pursuer of Sabathia seemed ludicrous not long ago. But the Rays have positioned themselves as serious contenders for an AL playoff spot, and Sabathia would give their rotation an outstanding foursome, putting him with Scott Kazmir, James Shields and Matt Garza.
June 27, 2008
According to SI.com, C.C. Sabathia appears ready to become the star of this summers trading season. No less than a dozen teams are believed interested in the Indians' Cy Young winning left-hander. By one accounting, every contending team but the Cardinals already has checked in with Cleveland. "He's going to be going somewhere,'' one competing GM predicted about Sabathia.

Our View:Unless the Indians can put a winning streak together and find their way into the driver seat in the AL Central, it sounds like everyone and anyone in the know is assuming Sabathia should be the most coveted pitcher on the trade market in July.
June 21, 2008
C.C. Sabathia didn't get a win Saturday, but he certainly put his best foot forward. The big lefty allowed just one run on five hits and a walk while striking out 10 over seven innings. He also hit a solo homer for the Tribe's lone run before they exploded for six runs in the 12th.

Our View:C.C has been dynamite since late April. Will he be wearing an Indians uniform at the end of the year? Only time will tell.
June 21, 2008
C.C. Sabathia will take the hill today against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, according to MLB.com. The lefty is 5-8 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.31 ERA over 99.1 innings, with 97 strikeouts.

Our View:Sabathia is back in solid form as he racked up 15 strikeouts and only one walk over his last two starts (17 innings).
June 16, 2008
C.C. Sabathia has been named the AL Player of the Week, according to the AP. Sabathia went 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two starts last week. The lefty went 17 innings, while allowing just three runs with one walk and 15 strikeouts.

Our View:Other nominees for the honor were Indians' team-mate Grady Sizemore, Alex Rodriguez, and JD Drew.
June 15, 2008
C.C. Sabathia allowed three runs on six hits, wallked one and struck out 10 Padres on Sunday afternoon. The big left-hander gave way to Masahide Kobayashi in the top of the ninth inning after throwing 112 pitches.

Our View:Sabathia won his five game against eight losses and lowered his ERA to 4.26.
June 10, 2008
C.C. Sabathia tossed a complete game shutout against the Twins on Tuesday night. The portly southpaw allowed five hits, walked none, and struck out five. He improved to 4-8 with a 4.34 ERA, and Sabathia owns a 2.10 ERA over his last 10 starts.

Our View:Sabathia hadn't won since May 14 and was roughed up by the Rangers and Royals in his last two outings. So, yeah, fantasy owners will love to see this box score. The inconsistency is a bit annoying, but as the 10-game stat notes, C.C. has been pretty darn good since late April.
June 5, 2008
C.C. Sabathia continued to confound with a another sub par outing on Thursday night for the Indians. Sabathia lost his eighth game of the year after allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits and three walks.

Our View:Sabathia now has back-to-back four run outings after allowing a total of four runs in his previous four starts. The strikeouts are still there with 82 in 82.1 innings, but he keeps giving up hits at the worst time in games.
May 31, 2008
C.C. Sabathia surrendered four runs on eight hits over eight innings in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Royals, with no walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:He is now 3-7 over 12 starts, with a 4.72 ERA. Sabathia has allowed two or less earned runs in each of his previous four starts, but could not close out May on a high note.
May 31, 2008
The 2008 season hasn't been too kind to Cleveland LHP C.C. Sabathia , but the former Cy Young candidate from last season hopes to rediscover his dominating ways against the Kansas City Royals this evening, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Sabathia is 3-6 thus far this season with an ERA of 4.74, allowing 73 hits through 68 1/3 innings thus far. However, in his last start nearly a week ago, Sabathia allowed just one run through seven innings against Texas and hopes to find that groove again today against KC. He carries a career record of 14-9 with a 3.35 ERA versus the Royals.
May 25, 2008
C.C. Sabathia pitched well in a no decision on Sunday, as Clevelend was edged by Texas 2-1. Sabathia only allowed one run on five hits over seven innings, with two walks and five strikeouts. One of the runs came on an Ian Kinsler home run.

Our View:Sabathia has only allowed four earned runs over his last four starts, with 33 strikeouts.
May 20, 2008
C.C. Sabathia, who was on a two game winning streak, took a tough loss on Tuesday night, 4-1, to the red-hot Chicgo White Sox. The 2007 AL Cy Young winner allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out eight and walking one in seven innings.

Our View:It was another strong start for the lefty, and this after pitching a five-hit shutout against Oakland on Wednesday.
May 14, 2008
C.C. Sabathia pitched a five-hitter and struck out 11 in the Cleveland Indians' major league-leading seventh shutout, a 2-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.

Our View:If there was any question about whether last year's Cy Young winner was back on track, this effort against the A's should answer any and all questions.
May 9, 2008
C.C. Sabathia struck out nine over seven innings in a 6-1 win over Toronto. The reigning AL Cy Young winner gave up six hits, walked two and won for the first time in five decisions at home this season.

Our View:Sabathia has officially turned it around after a miserable start. With Friday's win, C.C. lowered his ERA to 6.55.
May 9, 2008
C.C. Sabathia will be looking for his second win of the season when the Indians host the Blue Jays tonight, according to MLB.com. The former Cy Young Award winner is 1-5 with a 7.51 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 38.1 innings, with 18 walks and 37 strikeouts. He has already allowed six home runs.

Our View:Sabathia has allowed nine runs in two of his seven starts this season, but has only allowed a total of five runs (and four walks) over his last three outings.
May 3, 2008
C.C. Sabathia fell to 1-5 in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Kansas City. He surrendered four runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:He held a 7.88 ERA and 1.78 WHIP heading into today's game, and his fifth loss in seven starts has fantasy owners worried.
April 27, 2008
Cleveland ace C.C. Sabathia tried his best to pick up his Indians and produce a win today, but the offensive support failed to show as dueling starter Chien-Ming Wang dominated the Indians' batting order, resulting in a devastating 1-0 loss for Sabathia. Sabathia pitched eight full innings, striking out eight and walking just one to allow one run on four hits.

Our View:78 of Sabathia's 111 pitches counted as strikes, but the end result is his worrisome fourth loss with an ERA of 7.87.
April 27, 2008
The Cleveland Indians may be close to reaching a new contract agreement with ace C.C. Sabathia , according to MLBTradeRumors.com. The site notes the team's ability to enjoy a financial windfall from the creation of a new local television network, SportsTime Ohio, as the reason to believe the team is going to make a strong push to get Sabathia signed.

Our View:The team has committed $132 million to roster payroll between now and 2014, and another $61.5 million has yet to be dedicated based on contract options to be exercised or declined. Sources close to team GM Mark Shapiro have suggested the goal of signing both Sabathia and 1B Ryan Garko remain the focus of their financial plans looking forward. Rumors like this can often turn on a moment depending on negotiations and the whims of ownership, but keep Sabathia should be a top priority. We will update as news becomes available.
April 22, 2008
C.C. Sabathia finally has one in the win column. The southpaw tossed six shutout innings and struck out 11 batters in Tuesday's victory over the Royals. Sabathia allowed four hits and walked two.

Our View:Sabathia is now only one frame away from getting his rotund ERA down below 10. Joking aside, fantasy owners should be feeling quite a bit better after seeing this outing.
April 22, 2008
C.C. Sabathia will be looking for his first win on the season when he takes the hill against the upstart Royals tonight, according to MLB.com. The Indians' ace is currently 0-3 with a 13.50 ERA over 18 innings.

Our View:He will duel with righty Gil Meche, who is 1-2 with a 6.08 ERA. Sabathia allowed nine runs in his last outing (against Detroit) and hopefully he can bounce back and hurl a quality start.
April 16, 2008
C.C. Sabathia was lit up yet again as he allowed nine runs to the Tigers to pick up his third loss of the year. Sabathia permitted eight hits, five walks and had only one K in four innings on the hill.

Our View:We don't advocate panicking at any time, but if you own C.C., it would be OK to do so right now. His ERA sits at 13.50 through four starts with a WHIP of 2.00, and he is simply destroying all pitching staffs that he resides on. They say he isn't hurt, but this is just downright disturbing.
April 16, 2008
C.C. Sabathia will be looking for his first win of the season when he takes the hill against the division rival Tigers tonight, according to MLB.com. He is 0-2 this season with a 11.57 ERA, but has fared fine versus Detroit over his career as he holds a 13-8 record, with a 4.30 ERA.

Our View:He will duel with Armando Galarraga, who will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to make his second career start. Sabathia should have the upper hand in this match-up.
April 11, 2008
C.C. Sabathia was torched on Friday as the A's batter the reigning Cy Young winner for 12 hits and nine runs in 3.1 innings. Yes, it's time to be worried. Perhaps all those innings have taken their toll on his arm, but even if they haven't C.C. has allowed 18 ER in 14 innings for a 11.57 ERA marking him as perhaps the biggest flop on the hill in the early going.
April 5, 2008
C.C. Sabathia fell to 0-1 on Saturday after allowing four runs on six hits and four walks to the A's in 5.1 innings. Sabathia has failed to pitch six innings in either of his two starts and his ERA sits at an uncomfortable 7.59 as of this writing. Sabathia is too good a pitcher not to bounce back, but perhaps all those innings last year will effect his performance slightly this season, and not in a positive way.
March 31, 2008
C.C. Sabathia didn't do his best Cy Young impression in the opening day start for Cleveland. The Indians left-handed ace worked 5.1 innings, allowing six runs, five hits, three walks and struck out seven in the no-decision.
March 31, 2008
Chicago Manager Ozzie Guillen commented that he is tired of facing C.C. Sabathia on opening day, according to MLB.com. Guillen stated, "I'm sick and tired of seeing C.C. on Opening Day. When the previous season is over, we know who we're going to be facing in the opener. Give me another ballclub to start the season with. Obviously, with the year we had last year, we shouldn't even be in the league. In a way, maybe it's good. This gives us a chance to surprise a lot of people. Last year when they sang the national anthem, we were already down by a run. When we took the field, we were down by seven runs." Sabathia is set to go against Mark Buehrle today.
March 26, 2008
C.C. Sabathia remains unbeaten as he pushed his record to 3-0 on Wednesday against Houston, while allowing three runs on seven hits over seven innings, with six strikeouts. It wasn't a dominant outing but it was enough to get the job done, as the Indians hung on to win 7-6.
March 21, 2008
C.C. Sabathia, who surrendered three earned runs and eight hits in six innings on Friday, has been handled gently this spring. The Cy Young winner threw too many pitches and worked too many innings (241) in his stellar 2007 campaign. The Braves recorded just one hit in his final three innings against Sabathia who is rounding into form as the regular season approaches. Sabathia had pitched only nine innings coming into Friday's six inning gig against the Braves.

C.C. Sabathia retired nine straight Astros in his three innings of work on Thursday. The former Cy Young winner isn't getting the respect of a Cy Young winner as Josh Beckett and Erik Bedard are both going before the Indian left-hander in most March drafts.

C.C. Sabathia, who is coming off a single season career high in innings pitched (241), will be pampered this spring notes MLB.com. Add 15 1/3 innings of postseason work to his 241 regular season innings and the team has decided to restrict his workload during Spring Training. The coaching staff will limit Sabathia to throwing every fifth day when Grapefruit League games begin.

C.C. Sabathia announced on his official website today that he has cut off contract talks with the Indians, saying "there will be time after the season for the Indians and my representatives to discuss my contract status." Of course, the Indians can hardly afford to lose Sabathia for mere draft picks if he demands a Johan Santana like deal and signs elsewhere this fall, so it's possible he could be traded at some point this year.

C.C. Sabathia appears content with the amount of dollars that the Indians are offering but not the length of the contract after seeing the contract Johan Santana received from the Mets. "There's no question C.C. wants to stay here and there's no question we want to keep him here," GM Mark Shapiro said. "The only question is can we find a business deal that is deemed to be equitable and fair by both parties?" Sabathia will likely want a 6-year deal, the Indians have not yet gone beyond four years. Sabathia is only 27-years-old and has won in double-digits while hurling at least 180 innings in each of his seven seasons. That Cy Young on his mantle certainly doesn't hurt either. The Johan Santana deal has set the market for C.C. Sabathia, who will become a free agent after the 2008 season, and even though the Indians may not be able to afford to keep the lefty, GM Mark Shapiro believes it will be up to Sabathia whether or not he ends up staying in Cleveland. When asked to comment on Santana's contract and how it pertains to Sabathia, Shapiro told the Cleveland Plain Dealer: "You're asking the wrong person... There have been recent deals signed by pitchers as talented and capable as C.C., and in a more similar market than ours. But none of that matters. The only thing that matters is how relevant C.C. and his agents feel it is. Not to shift the burden to them, but I can't answer you how relevant it is." One thing Shapiro does know is that he can't see the Tribe dealing the reigning AL Cy Young winner. "I can't present you with a scenario where it's acceptable to us or to our relationship with our fans that involves trading C.C. or examining trading him," said Shapiro.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Indians made a four-year offer to C.C. Sabathia at the end of December (which included 2008). It's believed the new money in the Indians' offer to Sabathia is worth between $68 million and $72 million from 2009 and through 2012. The six-year, $137.5 million extension Johan Santana signed Friday with the Mets will probably make that offer to Sabathia insufficient. Sabathia is set to become a free agent after the 2008 season.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that when Johan Santana breaks the bank by inking a multi-million dollar deal with the Mets, it will essentially stamp C.C. Sabathia's ticket out of Cleveland, as the Indians aren't going to come anywhere close to the $130 to $150 million Santana is likely to get to keep Sabathia, who is set to be a free agent after this season. "If Santana signs this contract, it will be another added reference point to establishing a market value for C.C.," Indians GM Mark Shapiro said. "It will be another contract along with Peavy's, Halladay's, Zambrano's and Carpenter's. How relevant it is is up to C.C. and his representatives."
