C.C. Sabathia captured the AL Cy Young Award Tuesday, finishing comfortably ahead of Josh Beckett and John Lackey. Sabathia worked 40 1/3 more innings than Beckett during the regular season, which may have been what really swayed the voters.

The Indians are working on putting together a new contract offer for C.C. Sabathia, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "We're working on something to put in front of ownership, and we'll go from there," said GM Mark Shapiro on Wednesday. Sabathia is set to be a free agent after the 2008 season, and it's unclear exactly how much the big lefty wants to stay in Cleveland long-term.

C.C. Sabathia's contract comes to an end after the 2008 season, and GM Mark Shapiro would like to try to work out a new deal with the left-hander before spring training next year, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Should the Tribe be unable to work out a deal before the year begins, we could start to hear rumors about the team possibly trading Sabathia. However, that would be a last resort for the Indians, and we have a hard time not seeing them get a deal done eventually.

Sabathia threw 52 pitches in a bullpen session Friday without any problems, the Indians official site reports.Sabathia, who was hit on the forearm by a line drive Wednesday, is now clear to start Cleveland's opener Monday. In other Sabathia news Friday, the club announced that extension talks with the left-hander will be tabled until after the season. Sabathia is under contract through 2008.

Despite Sabathia's optimism, owners should still be prepared for the possibility that he still may not take the mound.

C.C. Sabathia will try to play catch today after being hit on his left forearm by a line drive yesterday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. X-rays were negative, but a knot developed in the area on which he was hit. "I'm hopeful C.C. can pitch the opener," said manager Eric Wedge. "We'll have to see how the swelling is and how stiff and sore he is."

C.C. Sabathia had to leave Wednesday's game in the first inning after being struck by a line drive on the left forearm, according to the AP. He has been diagnosed with a bruised left forearm, and it's not clear at this point if this will affect his opening day start.

C.C. Sabathia has given up golfing to help relieve unnecessary stress on the strained oblique that sidelined him for chunks of the past two seasons, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "It just wasn't working, me going out and shooting in the 90s and being on the [disabled list] in April," said Sabathia. "I want to stay healthy this year. I go down to the weight room every day and work on my core."
