Our View:The Phils will look to Contreras in the seventh and eighth innings next season. Considering how awful Ryan Madson and Brad Lidge were in 2009, there's a small-chance that he could end up closing, too. |

January 22, 2010 Updating an earlier item, Philadelphia will indeed look to recent signee Jose Contreras to fill the seventh and eighth inning void left in its bullpen by the departure of Chan Ho Park, according to David Murphy of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Our View:Contreras has relatively limited experience as a reliever, but showed flashes of brilliance in the role late last season for the Rockies. The Phillies saw it first hand in the NLDS, likely sealing in their minds that he was capable of handling later innings in relief. |
