The New York Post's Bart Hubbuch reports that the Mets have released Wily Mo Pena.

Our View:Pena had been playing at Triple-A Buffalo and had not appeared in the major leagues this season. He may get signed by another team, but he appears to officially have no meaningful major league future.
April 20, 2009
The Mets signed Wily Mo Pena to a minor league deal on Monday, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Pena will report to extended spring training and eventually join Triple-A Buffalo. He has a long way to go before making the Mets' roster that is already crowded in the outfield.

The Phillies are not interested in Wily Mo Pena after being released by the Nationals, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:The club covets a right-handed bat for the bench, but do not want Mo Pena, who hit .205 with 48 strikeouts over 195 at-bats in 2008.
March 28, 2009
Wily Mo Pena has been placed on waivers by the Washington Nationals, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:If another team claims him, they will be responsible for paying the $2 million owed him. If he clears waivers, he can choose to go to the minors, or - and this seems more likely - he can become a free agent.
March 25, 2009
The Nationals will open up 2009 with an extra position player because they do not need a fifth starter until mid-April, according to MLB.com. Wily Mo Pena or Kory Casto could be the player who benefits from this and makes the team.

Our View:Pena is coming off an injury filled season but could be a power hitter off the bench for the Nationals. Casto is out of options and can play a number of positions, both outfield and infield.
