Wily Mo Pena underwent left shoulder surgery to repair a small tear and fraying of the labrum in his left rotator cuff on Tuesday, according to the AP.

Our View:The procedure was performed in Cincinnati and Pena will be in a sling for three weeks before beginning a rehab program. He will be sidelined 4-6 months. The Nationals expect him to be ready for spring training next year.

Wily Mo Pena has officially been placed on the 15-day DL, due to a small tear in his left rotator cuff, according to the AP. To fill his spot on the roster, the Nationals activated catcher Johnny Estrada from the DL.

Our View:He will undergo surgery that could end his 2008 campaign. He held little to no fantasy value with a .205 average and only two homers, and is the 21st member of the Nationals to land on the DL this season.

Wily Mo Pena will undergo surgery on his ailing left shoulder, according to the AP. Pena has a small tear in his left rotator cuff and fraying of the labrum in his left shoulder.

Our View:He was examined Monday by Nationals team doctor Ben Shaffer and is expected to have the operation within seven to 10 days. He held little to no fantasy value as he maintained a .205 average over 195 at-bats, with only two homers.

MLB.com tells us that Nationals outfielder Wily Mo Pena has been playing with a sore left shoulder for more than a month.

Our View:This could explain the horrid numbers he has produced thus far. Entering Friday's action, Pena was hitting .209 with two home runs and 10 RBIs.

Wily Mo Pena was benched for a second straight start Wednesday. Manager Manny Acta told the Washington Post of Pena: "things are not working for him."

Our View:Not only is Pena batting just .205 with 38 strikeouts and nine walks, but his power, which is usually the only thing you can count on from him, hasn't been there either. He has just one homer and six doubles in 151 at-bats. Kory Casto has started in left the last two nights, though he's gone 0-for-5 at the plate.
