The Associated Press reports that Matt Holliday's new contract will have the Cardinals paying him until 2029.

Our View:Apparently $2 million each season will be deferred without interest, and Holliday will collect (depending on if his 2017 option is picked up) $1.4 or $1.6 million on July 15th every year from 2020-2029. Holliday will be 49 years old when he collects his last Cardinal paycheck, but it appears the team is being proactive and moving funds around for the imminent signing of Albert Pujols.

The Matt Holliday news just keeps on coming. According to Jon Heyman on Twitter, the newest Cardinal will receive an eighth year at $17 million if he finishes in the top-ten of 2016's MVP voting.

Our View:This isn't too scary for the Cardinals. If Holliday is still producing at that level seven years down the road, he will be worth every penny. Plus $17 million may not seem that outrageous of a sum in seven years, the way salaries in MLB are inflating.

Updating a previous report, Matt Holliday's seven year deal with the Cardinals will pay him an even $17 million per season, according to Matthew Leach on Twitter.

Our View:The deal is pending a physical of course, but contrary to previous thoughts it will not be back-loaded. Looks like the Cardinals aren't worried about clearing finances to lock up Albert Pujols. One would think they would have paid Holliday more while Pujols is still under contract to lessen payroll when he becomes a free agent.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Cardinals have reached a seven-year $120 million agreement with free agent outfielder Matt Holliday.

Our View:The deal will pay Holliday a little over $17 million per season, includes a full no-trade clause and may have a team option for 2017 as well. The Cardinals now have a formidable power and average threat to insert behind Albert Pujols in the lineup, and are the clear favorites to win the NL Central division again in 2010. Last year in 63 games with the Cards, Holliday batted an impressive .353 with 13 homers and 55 RBI.

According to Tim Brown on Twitter, the Cardinals and free agent outfielder Matt Holliday are apparently hours away from completing a deal.

Our View:The Cards were unofficially named the favorites to land the market's biggest free agent as soon as the Mets dropped out of contention by signing Jason Bay. Holliday has put in a bid on a house in St. Louis, and with the probability of Albert Pujols re-signing if the Cards lock up the left fielder, all signs point to him landing in St. Louis. The only question now is how much the Redbirds will have to shell out to get him.

In the latest "development" in St. Louis' courtship of Matt Holliday, local radio station 590 KFNS is reporting the free agent outfielder has "put an offer in to buy a home in the St. Louis area."

Our View:Basically, everyone seems to think Holliday is finally giving in and nearing an agreement with the Cardinals. With Scott Boras involved, you truly never know until the paperwork has been signed, but it would be a mammoth upset at this point were he to go somewhere else.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa wants a resolution to the Matt Holliday standoff before the end of the week, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:"I think we've made it clear how much we want to keep him," La Russa said. "At some point you have to go in one direction or the other." The two sides have been said to be having postive face-to-face talks in Austin, Texas the past few days. What Holliday is waiting for is still unclear, but what is becoming increasingly clear is that he's not going to get it. Stay tuned.

According to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals are "still working" on getting free agent outfielder Matt Holliday signed.

Our View:So despite what Jim Bowden insinuated earlier in the day, a deal does not sound imminent. This we can guarantee you: at some point this offseason, Matt Holliday will sign a major league baseball contract.

According to Jim Bowden of Fox Sports, the Cardinals are closing in on a $98.5 million deal for Matt Holliday. Bowden does not cite a number of years.

Our View:The deal would be for either five or six years were that to be the final money. A resolution to the two sides' standoff has seemed imminent for days now, and if Bowden is to believed, it appears it will end with Holliday returning to St. Louis. Stay tuned.
