Austin Kearns missed the last three games while nursing a sore left hand, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Kearns said he felt better after batting practice today, and is hopeful of returning to action Monday against the Pirates. Josh Willingham has been covering his spot in the outfield while on the shelf.

Austin Kearns only had one hit on Saturday, but it was a big one. He smoked the ball out of the park with the sacs jammed for his second homer of the season, but the Nationals fell to the Marlins in 11 innings.

Our View:Despite Kearns' big hit on Saturday he's only hitting .179 this season. With one swing today he double his home run and RBI totals.

The New York Post reports that Nationals' outfielder Austin Kearns could be an option for the Yankees with Xavier Nady (elbow) possibly done for the season.

Our View:The Nationals are believed to be listening to offers for Kearns. The Yankees replaced Nady in right field with Nick Swisher, but could still use depth for the bench.

Austin Kearns went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Marlins.

Our View:Kearns has four RBI over three games, but the Nationals are yet to win a game. The club only registered five hits in today's loss.

Austin Kearns will open the season as Washington's starter in right field ahead of Elijah Dukes, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:No big surprise here, as Kearns had clearly outplayed Dukes this spring, although Dukes probably remains the more valuable fantasy commodity, since he still should start around two or three times per week and has far greater speed. Kearns may have a tough time holding down the starting gig over the entire course of the season given that he's struggled with both health and consistent effectiveness throughout his career, and thus has topped 400 at-bats in a season just twice (2006 and 2007).
