Player Notes
January 5, 2010
Austin Kearns has signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians.

Our View:In 174 at-bats with the Nationals last season, Kearns hit a putrid .195. In nearly 3,000 career at-bats, however, he has hit a far more respectable .256, socking 105 home runs in the process. He will most likely make the team next spring.
November 6, 2009
The Nationals have opted to decline Austin Kearns' $10MM option for 2010, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The club will instead pay the outfielder a $1MM buyout. Kearns is good defensively, but leaves a bit to be desired with his bat, as he only hit .195 in 2009.
August 20, 2009
MASNsports.com reports that outfielder Austin Kearns is expected to begin baseball activities in a couple of weeks.

Our View:Kearns, who is recovering from surgery on his right thumb, appears to be a ways off from rejoining the team. He won't have any fantasy value upon his return and won't do much to improve the floundering Nationals.
August 7, 2009
Austin Kearns had successful surgery on his injured right thumb on Friday, according to MASN.

Our View:Kearns is expected to fully recover from the injury, and be activated at the end of his scheduled 15-days on the disabled list.
August 5, 2009
According to MLBlogs.com, Austin Kearns is headed to the disabled list with a thumb injury.

Our View:Kearns, in the midst of his worst season ever, will travel to Baltimore to see a thumb specialist. He has had multiple issues with the thumb since 2001. Prospect Jorge Padilla will be called up to take his spot on the roster.
