According to MLBlogs.com, Felipe Lopez will sit out the first few spring training games.

Our View:Nothing to be concerned about here. Manager Tony LaRussa just wants Lopez to catch up with the other players since he entered camp several days late. He'll likley be held out of games this weekend, but should see plenty of action once next week roles around. Expect him to get looks at second, short, third and the corner outfield spots.

According to Ken Rosenthal on Twitter, the one-year deal that infielder Felipe Lopez signed with the Cardinals is worth $1 million in base salary.

Our View:Lopez was expected to make $1.75 million, so this deal seems to be getting better and better for the Cards. He can earn up to an extra $1.2 million in incentives, but if he performs anywhere close to what he did in limited time with them in 2008, it will be well worth it. He likely won't be a starter, but provides a lot of flexibility for the Redbirds and could see plenty of at-bats at third, second and short. Don't be shocked if he gets the occasional outfield start as well, as Tony LaRussa is known for making bizarre decisions on that level.

Felipe Lopez has agreed to a one-year deal with the Cardinals, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman. Heyman reports that Lopez will receive $1.75 million in base salary with more possible in incentives.

Our View:A nice low-risk move for the Cardinals. Lopez could challenge for the third base job, but more likely he will get a lot of starts at second base against lefties and serve as a backup at multiple positions. He also represents good insurance in case Brendan Ryan's recovery from wrist surgery goes slower than expected.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, there is a belief amongst baseball insiders that Felipe Lopez will eventually end up with the Cardinals.

Our View:It's amazing that Lopez is still unsigned, and while corralling him would be a great move for the Cardinals, it would mean he almost certainly would not be a starter. This is probably why a deal has not been consummated yet. Stay tuned.

The Rangers are not interested in Felipe Lopez, according to MLB writer T.R. Sullivan's twitter page.

Our View:The Rangers are set up well with Ian Kinsler at second, and Joaquin Arias potentially the top backup. The Cardinals remain the only club believed to have Lopez on their radar.
