Rod Barajas has made a case to be the Blue Jays' No. 1 catcher, but he will split time with Gregg Zaun when Zaun returns from the DL on Wednesday. "They'll both play," manager John Gibbons said. "We feel good. We've got two pretty good catchers. So any way you go, you feel good."

Our View:Barajas is still worth owning in deeper leagues, but he will probably not play quite as much as Zaun.
June 5, 2008
Rod Barajas returned to action on Thursday and went 0-for-3 for the Jays a day after being pulled due to lower back tightness.

Our View:Barajas has been blowing up of late with two homers and eight RBI in his last eight games in place of the injured Greg Zahn. He could be seizing a more sizable run with this hot streak.
June 4, 2008
Blue Jays catcher Rod Barajas, who is now the everyday starter for the injured Greg Zaun, left in the sixth with tightness in his lower back and was replaced by Curtis Thigpen. The team didn't announce Barajas' status for Thursday's game.

Our View:The Jays are down to their third-string catcher, utility second baseman (Marco Scutaro) and a castoff starting in right field (Brad Wilkerson). Yet they're three games over .500 and only 4.5 games out of first place.
May 31, 2008
Rod Barajas went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Angels.

Our View:That was his first homer since May 17, when he collected two against the Phillies, who happened to be his former team. He has now recorded an RBI in three straight games, with five over the span.
May 29, 2008
Rod Barajas had three hits which led to three RBI for the Jays catcher. With this effort, Barajas is now hitting .301 on the year.

Our View:Baragas has been swinging a hot stick in May with a .391 average in 46 AB. Greg Zaun continues to take at-bats away from Barajas, but Rod is looking like a great AL Only play at the moment.
May 17, 2008
Rod Barajas pitched 6.1 strong innings and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 on Saturday night. Burnett allowed two runs on four hits, walking three and striking out eight.

Our View:Burnett and the Jays rotation continue to keep the light-hitting lineup in games, and head into Sunday afternoon's game with their best, Shaun Marcum.
May 17, 2008
Rod Barajas hit two homers, including a grand slam, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 on Saturday night.

Our View:Barajas has played in 22 games this year and compiled 63 at-bats. The backup catcher has scored six runs, has nine RBI and is hitting .254 on the season.

Rod Barajas, who is a career .412 hitter against C.C. Sabathia, went 1-for-3 in Friday's loss to the Indians.

Our View:Barajas is hitting .226 on the year with one home run and four RBI.
April 20, 2008
Rod Barajas went 0-for-3 with a strikeout while serving as the Jays' DH against Detroit on Sunday. The team notably cut regular DH Frank Thomas today, and Barajas did not justify the move with his performance.

Our View:Barajas' fantasy value remains low.
April 18, 2008
Rod Barajas hit his first home run of the season on Friday night as his average improved to .316.

Our View:Greg Zahn still appears to be in line for the majority of work behind the plate, but if he continues to hit near his current .239 mark, Barajas could find himself with a few more AB moving forward.
April 14, 2008
Rod Barajas isn't starting on Monday night, but he is available off the bench, MLB.com reports. The backstop tweaked his groin on Sunday.

Our View:Barajas will continue to split time with starter Gregg Zaun moving forward.
April 13, 2008
Rod Barajas injured his groin on Sunday and left the game in the sixth inning, according to the AP. He was 2-for-3 with two RBI at the time.

Our View:We're not doctors, but we figure a groin injury makes it awful tough for a guy to catch. Gregg Zaun is the starter, but the Jays may need to find a new backup. Curtis Thigpen is the likely choice to get the call should Barajas end up on the DL.
April 6, 2008
Rod Barajas was awarded the start over Gregg Zaun against Boston on Sunday, but he was a grave disappointment as he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. He is fighting Zaun for playing time, and today's outing did not help his cause.
April 6, 2008
Rod Barajas will start at catcher over Gregg Zaun on Sunday, according to the Providence Journal. He has two hits over four at-bats so far.
March 31, 2008
Rod Barajas' sore shoulder is feeling better and no longer bothering him, according to SlamSports. He will platoon with Gregg Zaun this season and is expected to get plenty of playing time, as Manager Gibbons stated that it won't be a strict platoon. He also noted that Barajas had a good spring.
January 25, 2008
Rod Barajas signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Blue Jays on Thursday, according to the Toronto Sun. Barajas will back up Gregg Zaun in Toronto, which will leave him without much fantasy value.
January 15, 2008
The Orioles are looking at Rod Barajas as a possible back-up catcher option, according to the Baltimore Sun. Barajas hit .230 with four homers and 10 RBI in 122 at-bats in 2007, and he would have very little fantasy value in a back-up role.
