Player Notes
September 3, 2009
Joe Nelson has been assigned to Triple-A Durham.

Our View:He was designated for assignment earlier this week, but nobody claimed him. He has a career 4.07 ERA in 143.2 innings.
September 1, 2009
Joe Nelson has been designated for assignment by the Rays, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:The Rays did not have plans to recall him, so they designated him to give him a chance to find work with another team.
August 1, 2009
The Rays optioned reliever Joe Nelson to Triple-A Durham after Friday's game.

Our View:We're a little surprised to see Nelson sent down, but it's possible that the corresponding move will make sense. Nelson had some control issues in July.
December 30, 2008
Joe Nelson's one-year deal with the Rays is now official, according to the Associated Press. Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman said, "We feel like Joe can really help our bullpen. He had a tremendous season in 2008 and has been very effective against both left-handed and right-handed hitters."

Our View:Nelson was a strong addition to the Rays' bullpen, but will only hold fantasy value in leagues that feature setup men and middle relievers.
December 24, 2008
Joe Nelson inked a one-year deal with the Rays on Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald. The contract is worth $1.3 million.

Our View:Nelson won't have much fantasy value, primarily serving as a setup man or middle reliever, but he'll help sure up the Rays' bullpen, which was already solid in 2008.
