Player Notes
September 5, 2008
Manager Cecil Cooper and the Astros' staff have been pleased with infielder David Newhan, and the club is looking for ways to get him more at-bats, according to the Houston Chronicle. Newhan has started seven of the last nine games at second base, but Cooper is considering moving him to the outfield for the first time this year. Cooper stated, "He’s making plays and getting hits. He’s done a good job. A lot of it is getting the opportunity. He’s getting to play more. He’s making some eyes go open a little bit, and we’ll keep giving him a chance. He can run, he’s a good defender and can steal some bases."

Our View:Newman especially impressed the team when he stole home on Wednesday against the Cubs, and is worth picking up in larger NL-only leagues for depth.
June 24, 2008
The Astros recalled David Newhan from Triple-A Round Rock Tuesday to replace the injured Kaz Matsui on the roster. Newhan had one at-bat earlier this year with the 'Stros.

Our View:Newhan was hitting well at Triple-A, with a .308 average, nine homers and eight steals. He doesn't figure to garner much playing time.
April 14, 2008
The Astros designated David Newhan for assignment on Monday, the Houston Chronicle confirms.

Our View:Newhan was swept up in a numbers game as the Astros try to overcome some injuries. He has no fantasy value.
January 30, 2008
The Astros signed David Newhan to a minor-league deal Tuesday. Newhan spent last year with the Mets, hitting just .203 in 74 at-bats. He raked at Triple-A, though, hitting .347 in 173 at-bats for New Orleans.
August 15, 2007
David Newhan was optioned to Triple-A Tuesday, making room for Marlon Anderson off the bereavement list. Newhan played sparingly over the last three weeks as the team's utility guy, picking up two hits in nine at-bats.
