Player Notes
September 4, 2008
John McDonald was on the bench for the fourth time in six games on Thursday night, according to MLB.com. With the return of Scott Rolen and the solid play of Marco Scutaro and Joe Inglett, there just hasn't been any room in the lineup for McDonald.

Our View:Face it. McDonald might be the best defensive shortstop in the American league, but the guy is hitting .217 with one home run in 157 AB. If you're upset by this news, your AL-only squad is likely in big trouble.
June 7, 2008
John McDonald has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. To make room on the roster, the team designated reliever Armando Benitez for assignment.

Our View:McDonald has recovered from a sprained right ankle. The infielder holds little fantasy value, as he is only hitting .182 over 22 at-bats, with five strikeouts.

The AP reports that shortstop John McDonald (ankle) and OF Vernon Wells (broken wrist) flew to Florida on Monday to begin rehab assignments.

Our View:Neither player has a timetable for their return, but McDonald is expected to rejoin the team well before Wells.
May 23, 2008
John McDonald is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Monday, according to the AP. He is coming back from a sprained ankle.

Our View:McDonald is lights out defensively, but he's pretty useless with the bat, and thus, useless to fantasy teams.

The Toronto Blue Jays team website reports that manager John Gibbons indicated prior to Tuesday's game that John McDonald will be sent on a rehab assignment at some point within the next week. A rehab schedule will become more clear for John McDonald on Wednesday, when he is set to perform more baseball-related activities, according to general manager J.P. Ricciardi.

Our View:McDonald sprained his right ankle when his cleat was caught on the turf as he tried to field a ground ball.
