The Angels agreed on a five-year, $50 million deal with Gary Matthews on Wednesday, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com. Matthews will man center field for the Angels, and he could bat leadoff. Matthews is coming off a career season, hitting .313 with 19 homers and 79 RBI. However, it's worth noting that prior to 2006, he was a career .249 hitter.

One of the Giants' top priorities this offseason could be to go after Gary Matthews, according to the Contra Costa Times. Matthews hit .313 with a .371 on-base percentage, 44 doubles, six triples, 19 home runs and 102 runs last year for Texas. The Giants already have Randy Winn on their roster, but they think he is better suited for a corner outfield spot. The Angels are very interested in Matthews, as well, reports the LA Times.
