The Nationals activated Cristian Guzman from the DL on Friday. He had been out with a sprained left thumb, and it was originally thought that he was done for the season. Cristian Guzman could make it back to the Nats for the final week of the regular season. The shortstop, who has been out since June with torn ligaments in his left thumb, took batting practice Tuesday. If he has no further complications, Guzman will take several at-bats in a simulated game either tomorrow or Friday before possibly participating in a few instructional league games in Florida. If all goes well, he could be back sometime next week, but manager Manny Acta isn't sure bringing Guzman back is worth the risk. "I don't know how much a few games is going to do for him," Acta said in the Washington Post. "But if he's able to do it, at least he knows he's back for good from that surgery."

"He came in and right away he showed me his thumb," Nationals manager Manny Acta said Monday. "It didn't look right. I was going to take him out of the game; he refused. He said 'No! No! No! I can play. I'm fine."
