Any rumors that the Phillies were willing to take offers on shortstop Jimmy Rollins were shot down by new GM Ruben Amaro, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Jimmy Rollins is our shortstop, for now and the future. That rumor is unequivocally false," said Amaro.

Our View:Rollins had a down year compared to 2007, but he still performed adequately for the Phillies and fantasy owners, with a .277 average, 11 homers, 59 RBI and 47 steals.
October 26, 2008
Jimmy Rollins broke out of a slump in Game 3 but took it up a notch in Game 4 of the World Series. The Phillies' leadoff hitter was 3-for-5 with three runs scored as they defeated the Rays 10-2 on Sunday.

Our View:Rollins had only three hits in his past 33 at-bats prior to Game 3. Since then he is 5-for-9 with four runs scored.
October 23, 2008
Jimmy Rollins went 0-for-5 as the Phillies fell 2-4 to the Rays in Game 2 of the World Series. He is now has just three hits in his last 33 at-bats.

Our View:The Phillies need their leadoff hitter and former MVP to get it going back home in Philadelphia if they hope to win this series.
October 16, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is batting just .243 with a .300 OBP as the Phillies head into the World Series.

Our View:Rollins is the sparkplug that the team derives its excitement from, and though they have managed to be successful despite his less than great work at the plate, one would have to think he will need to crank his game up a notch if the club is to emerge as World Champions.
October 12, 2008
Jimmy Rollins was 0-for-4 on Sunday in Game 3 and is now just 1-for-13 in the NLCS. The shortstop struck out twice on the night.

Our View:Rollins is a good hitter who picked a terrible time to go into a slump. The Phillies need their catalyst in order to win two of the next four games and reach the World Series.
September 20, 2008
Jimmy Rollins had a tough night at the plate in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Marlins, as he went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts.

Our View:Rollins should bounce back heading into the final week of the season, as he registered multiple hits in three of his last six games. His runs scored (73) and homers (11) have been down this season, but is only three stolen bases away from setting a new high (currently has 44).
September 14, 2008
Jimmy Rollins went 2-for-2 with a runs scored and two RBI for the Phillies in the second game of a double header with the Brewers after going hitless in the opener.

Our View:Rollins, who has 42 SB, was caught for just the third time this season by Jason Kendall. He is certainly doing his part to help the Phillies make the playoffs by hitting .365 in 12 September games.
September 13, 2008
Jimmy Rollins carried the Phillies in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Brewers, as he went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. He hit a single, a double, and a homer, his 11th of the season.

Our View:Rollins has registered multiple hits in four of his last five games, and is hitting .476 (10-for-21) over the span.
September 7, 2008
Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins went 1-for-10 in both games of his team's doubleheader against the Mets. Rollins went 1-for-5 in game one, but went hitless in five at-bats in the second game, a 6-3 Mets victory.

Our View:Rollins came into the second game of the doubleheader with a seven-game hitting streak, but saw that disappear.
September 1, 2008
Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins, fresh off a mediocre August in which he hit .263, may not start September off much better, considering the troubles he has had hitting Tim Redding, who will pitch for the Nationals in Monday's game against Philadelphia. Rollins is just 5-for-30 (.167) with one extra-base hit off Redding in his career.

Our View:Rollins has been one of the biggest disappointments of the year for fantasy owners, but maybe a big September can salvage some of it.
August 26, 2008
Jimmy Rollins had a big night Tuesday, going 5-for-7 with a homer, three RBI and three steals in the Phillies' extra innings win over the Mets.

Our View:That's eight hits in the last two games for J-Roll. Hopefully he's snapped out of his slump.
August 25, 2008
Jimmy Rollins may have broken out of his month-long slump by going 3-for-3 with one walk, a run scored and two RBI in Philly's 5-0 win over the Dodgers.

Our View:Rollins came in batting under .200 for the month, and he doubled his RBI total for August with his two on Monday. The former MVP still needs to pick up the pace a bit.
August 24, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is not having a good August. First, he criticized Phillies fans for the constant booing, and now his performance is suffering. Rollins went 0-for-5 in the Phillies 5-2 win over the Dodgers, and his batting average in August fell below .200.

Our View:Rollins is 17-for-89 in August with no home runs and a frighteningly low RBI total of two. Fantasy owners have to be hugely disappointed following his magnificent 2007 campaign.
August 14, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is getting a little tired of the constant booing by Philadelphia fans, and he would like the crowd to give his squad some support, according to Phillies.com. Rollins cited a number of examples, including one about when he got hurt earlier this year. "I went down and Eric Bruntlett came in and played. He got booed his first time out there, because he made two errors in New York. Then they're on his side after he comes through with some big hits. You should be there from Day 1, because he's going to be the guy out there for 25 games."

Our View:Here's betting Rollins gets roundly booed the next time he steps to the plate in Philly.
August 9, 2008
The Phillies took full advantage of a lackluster effort from Pittsburgh, getting the 4-2 win over the Pirates with a strong effort from shortstop Jimmy Rollins . Rollins went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, hitting two triples and stealing his 29th base of the season to total two runs scored on the night.

Our View:Rollins has struggled a bit in the early battles of August, hitting jut .231 with no RBIs and just one run scored coming into tonight's battle. If he finds his groove, he should continue to produce quality numbers fantasy owners can enjoy.
August 9, 2008
Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins has been struggling a bit in August, but he could break out of that tonight when Philly takes on Pittsburgh and pitcher Ian Snell. Rollins has Snell's number, with a career .533 average (8-for-15) off of him. Among his eight hits are one home run, one double and two triples.

Our View:Rollins' August has consisted of a .231 average, but he has been getting on base, posting a .412 OBP. Be sure he is in your fantasy lineup tonight.
August 3, 2008
Jimmy Rollins went 0-for-5 on Sunday to drop his average to .263, a far cry from the .296 mark he posted last season during his MVP performance.

Our View:Rollins didn't put up a hit in three games against the Cardinals this weekend going 0-for-11. Rollins simply has to get hot at some point, doesn't he?
August 1, 2008
Jimmy Rollins may have no power this season, but he continues to steal bases at a high rate as he swiped his 27th base of the season on Friday night.

Our View:Rollins is only batting .270 with just eight home runs in 346 AB, but his OBP is actually only .002 points behind the mark he posted in his MVP season last year (.334).
July 27, 2008
Jimmy Rollins was 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base in the Phillies 12-10 win over the Braves on Sunday. He scored three times in the victory.

Our View:As previously mentioned, Rollins is clutch and will likely heat up as the games take on more meaning. Look for his .271 batting average to climb sharply going forward.
July 24, 2008
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Jimmy Rollins didn't start for the Phillies on Thursday because he was late to the ballpark. He left after the team bus, as he usually does, and was late due to traffic issues.

Our View:While he let fantasy owners down today, this is still good news that he didn't miss the game due to an injury.
July 24, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is not in Thursday's lineup.

Our View:It is unknown if Rollins suffered an injury or is simply taking the day off.
July 22, 2008
Reigning MVP Jimmy Rollins delivered a two-run double in the ninth on Tuesday against the Mets in a six run inning. It was his only hit of the night, but it came at a critical time.

Our View:It is safe to bet that as the games take on more meaning, Rollins' production will increase.
July 6, 2008
On Sunday, Jimmy Rollins stole his 35th straight base, going back to last August. He was 2-for-5 with a walk.

Our View:Rollins is 21-for-21 this season and owners no doubt he will become even more aggressive on the base paths.
July 2, 2008
Philadelphia infielders Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley were up to their usual mischief tonight, helping their Phillies get the dominating 7-3 over Atlanta. Rollins went 3-for-4 at the plate with one walk and three singles, good for one RBI and two runs scored. Utley went 2-for-4 with this 24th double of the season, good for one RBI and one run scored.

Our View:Both players stole bases and both players continue to give fantasy owners reason to smile.
June 24, 2008
Jimmy Rollins stole second and third base in the first inning against the Angels on Sunday, which gives him 31-consecutive steals without being caught, according to MLB.com.

Our View:That is the longest active steals streak in the Major Leagues, with 17 of those steals coming in 2008.
June 22, 2008
Philadelphia shortstop Jimmy Rollins enjoyed a strong day on offense despite his team's 3-2 loss to the Angels. Rollins went 2-for-4 with a walk, his 17th double of the season, and two stolen bases to pickup one RBI on the day.

Our View:Rollins now carries 17 stolen bases on the season, seven of them coming since June 11th.
June 16, 2008
Jimmy Rollins lead off the Phillies game on Monday with a home run on his way to three hits, two runs and three RBI against the Red Sox.

Our View:Rollins is back in full destruction mode for the Phillies and he is primed to really take off as the summer months are nearly upon us.
June 14, 2008
The Phillies are banking on the rise they believe is coming, sooner or later, from shortstop Jimmy Rollins , according to MLB.com.

Our View:The team is discussing Rollins openly in the press after going 6-for-32 on this road trip and 0-for-8 in their series with the St. Louis Cardinals, also noting he was the only member of the lineup not to record a hit on Friday when the Phils sprayed 21 hits around Busch Stadium. Getting Rollins rolling while Pat Burrell is hot would be entertaining and productive, something this offense desperately needs.
June 12, 2008
Jimmy Rollins had two hits on Thursday which led to a run scored and his 12th stolen base of the season.

Our View:Rollins has hits in 5-straight games, though in the previous four games he had only one hit. Still, it's nice to see him healthy and running again. Don't worry, the swing is almost back where it needs to be.
June 5, 2008
Jimmy Rollins was removed from the Phillies game on Thursday after failing to run out a pop-up, and after the game he didn't shy away from the media, according to MLB.com. "He has two rules -- be on time and hustle; and I broke one of them today," Rollins said of manager Charlie Manuel. "I know better. Sometimes the manager gets you. I just have to go out there and make sure I don't do it again."

Our View:Rollins further cemented his reputation as a stand up guy by admitting his guilt and taking full responsibility. Whether or not he will be in the lineup for the Phillies next game isn't certain, but we wouldn't be surprised to see him out there because of the way he handled things after making the mistake.
June 5, 2008
Jimmy Rollins may have been benched, according to Philly.com. Rollins hit a pop fly into shallow left field with two outs and a runner on second in the third inning this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. The ball was dropped, and Rollins only got to first, while he should have reached second. Rollins took the field in the top of the fourth inning, but was gone by the top of the fifth.

Our View:It was initially reported that he suffered an undisclosed injury, but now there is speculation that he may have been benched. We should know the real story following the game.
June 5, 2008
Jimmy Rollins was forced out of action against the Reds in the fourth inning today due to an undisclosed injury, according to the AP.

Our View:He was replaced by Eric Bruntlett at shortstop. We will keep you posted as more details are known.
June 3, 2008
The Phillies did plenty of hitting his evening but had to fight for the 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The man of the hour was leadoff man Jimmy Rollins , going 3-for-4 at the dish with his 15th double of the season and two stolen bases (now carrying 10 on the season) with a run scored.

Our View:Rollins is hitting well, posting a .298 batting average in May, and he continues to swipe bases with regularity (six of his 10 stolen bags coming in May).
May 19, 2008
Jimmy Rollins suffered a scare on Sunday when he tweaked his left ankle, but on Monday he reported that he was fine, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Rollins should continue to man the shortstop position for the Phillies, something he has done extremely well while on the field considering his .342 average, but it will be interesting to see if he curtails his running to make sure his ankle is healed.
May 18, 2008
Philadelphia shortstop Jimmy Rollins went 3-for-5 in the Phillies' 6-3 loss to the Blue Jays, giving him his fourth consecutive game with two or more hits.

Our View:During that span, Rollins has gone 9-for-18 with four RBIs, four runs scored, and three stolen bases.

SS Jimmy Rollins did what he could to get the Phillies back in the hunt, but his team fell 8-6 to that Atlanta Braves. Rollins went 2-for-5 at the dish with his fifth double of the season, also adding his third stolen base of the season.

Our View:Rollins totaled two RBIs and one run scored on the evening.
May 11, 2008
Jimmy Rollins went 0-for-5 in his third game back from a disabled list stint with a sprained left ankle. He had three hits Friday in his return, missing the cycle by a triple.

Our View:Rollins didn't miss a beat after spending over two weeks rehabbing an high ankle sprain. He is a must start in all formats this week.
May 10, 2008
Jimmy Rollins led the Philadelphia Phillies to victory the first day off the disabled list. The reigning NL MVP hit a two-run homer, an RBI double and also singled, sending the Phillies past the struggling San Francisco Giants 7-4 on Friday night.

Our View:The Phillies are glad to have their spark plug back while fantasy owners are celebrating in the street. Rollins found his stroke in a hurry. He missed hitting for the cycle by one hit for the 16th time in his career.
May 9, 2008
Jimmy Rollins remains on target to rejoin the Phillies in San Francisco tonight, according to MetsBlog. He missed a month due to his sprained ankle.

May 8, 2008
Jimmy Rollins will join the team in San Francisco on Friday at AT&T Park, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer.

Our View:The Phillies said Rollins' arrival in San Francisco does not guarantee he will be activated before tomorrow night's game. May 5, 2008
Jimmy Rollins left on Sunday for a rehab stint in Clearwater, Florida, where he will determine when he plays, and with which group, the Class-A affiliate or the extended spring-training participants, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

May 2, 2008
Jimmy Rollins won't be ready for Monday's game, the first day he's eligible to be activated from the disabled list, but the Phillies shortstop is hoping to be ready for Thursday's series finale against the D-backs, this according to MLB.com. "Mother's Day is coming up," Rollins said, referring to playing next Sunday in San Francisco, where his mother and biggest fan, Gigi Rollins, will be in the stands.

Our View:Rollins ran the bases on Thursday, and did some additional running on Friday. If all goes well, Rollins will return on Thursday, Sunday at the latest.
May 1, 2008
Jimmy Rollins still feels discomfort in his sprained left ankle, namely when he rounds the bases, and now it seems unlikely he will be activated from the DL on Monday in Arizona, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. Rollins is trying to be cautious. If he comes back too quickly, before the ankle heals, he could injury it more severely, which could affect the season or his career. Rollins said, "Don't treat it right and I've got a bad ankle for the rest of my career, too. That's not good. When I'm ready, I'll be up on that lineup board."

Our View:Rollins was previously on track for a Monday return, and this is disappointing news for fantasy owners.
April 30, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is eligible to return from his sprained ankle on Monday, but that doesn't mean he will be activated for the Phillies game against the Diamondbacks, according to MLB.com. "I heard that [Tuesday] when he made turns, he kind of felt it," manager Charlie Manuel said.

Our View:The team wants Rollins to play four of five minor league games to get his timing back and to feel confident that he is over the injury which might push his return back to later next week.
April 28, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is eligible to come off the DL on May 5, and he has been taking batting and infield practice in Clearwater while the Phillies were on their recently completed road trip, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. GM Pat Gillick stated that he would like to get Rollins three or four rehab starts before he is activated, but that there is no set plan for when those assignments might begin. Scott Sheridan added, "We'll evaluate him today. Obviously, he's been doing well and we'll see where he's at, but I don't have a rehab schedule or anything set up. Seeing is believing."

Our View:The Phillies are in third place in the NL East with a 14-12 record, and Rollins is needed back soon, especially since fellow stud Ryan Howard is not carrying his weight right now as a hitter.
April 24, 2008
Jimmy Rollins will take batting practice in Clearwater, Florida today, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. He is eligible to come off the DL on May 5.

Our View:There is speculation that he has a break in his injured ankle, but he wouldn't likely take batting practice if that was true.
April 23, 2008
Jimmy Rollins may not have a sprained ankle, it might actually be broken, according to a report on Off The Record.

Our View:Wow. If true, this could be devastating news that would likely keep Rollins out of action for at least a month. Given the fact that things have gone less than well so far as the team tries to get a handle on this injury, it would certainly seem possible that Rollins is more injured than we have been led to believe.
April 21, 2008
Jimmy Rollins, currently on the DL, apparently re-injured his ankle while pinch-hitting on Saturday, this according to MLB.com. "I had a chance to pinch-hit, then I take the first swing and I'm a one-legged hitter after that," Rollins said. Here is what assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. had to say. "[Rollins] was not going to go up there and pinch-hit had he not felt good enough to pinch-hit...In retrospect, of course it was a mistake."

Our View:The bottom line here is that the team totally botched this one. Now they will be without Rollins for two more weeks when he probably would be just about back on the field if they had just placed him on the DL when he initially hurt his ankle.
April 20, 2008
Shortstop Jimmy Rollins is headed to the disabled list for the first time in his eight-year Major League career, this according to MLB.com. The Phillies announced before Sunday's finale of a three-game series against the Mets that Rollins was placed on the 15-day DL.

April 20, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is not likely to play on Sunday, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. His sprained ankle continues to bother him, and Manager Charlie Manuel noted that the ankle is at about 75% right now. Rollins could miss a few more days and commented, "I know I'm not ready, so it really doesn't bother me that much. If I felt I was ready and couldn't get clearance, then that would be a different story, but I know I'm not where I need to be. My plan is to stay off it as much as I can."

Our View:Eric Bruntlett will continue to cover shortstop until he can return.
April 18, 2008
Jimmy Rollins underwent an MRI on Thursday to check out his sprained left ankle. "The MRI results basically confirmed exactly what we were treating him for," assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. tells the Philadelphia Inquirer. "He's got a sprained ankle, and he's healing and he's doing quite well." Rollins is currently away from the team due to the death of his uncle. He will rejoin the team on Saturday and possibly play this weekend.

Our View:Fantasy owners should keep Rollins out until we have better news about him returning to action.
April 17, 2008
Jimmy Rollins may have pinch hit last night but his ankle continues to bother him, this according to MLB.com. Besides that issue there is also a death in the family, so the decision has been made to hold Rollins out of action until at least Sunday.

Our View:Rollins is using a hyperbaric chamber to improve his ability to recover, but the bottom line is that he is out until at least Sunday, so continue to make other arrangements until he returns to action.
April 16, 2008
Jimmy Rollins pinch hit in the ninth inning for the Phillies and was able to pick up a single before being lifted in favor of pinch-runner So Taguchi.

Our View:Well, at least he made it on the field for an AB, but this ankle injury has already taken far too long to heal if you ask Rollins owners. Just because he pinch hit tonight does not mean he will be in the starting lineup for the Phils next game; that decision still has not yet been made.
April 16, 2008
Jimmy Rollins commented that he is still feeling discomfort in his sprained left ankle, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. It remained unclear when he could return to the lineup, and he added, "It's not moving to my left. It's changing directions after I've gone left. That's where it's sore." He ended by noting that he is unsure when he will return.

Our View:Eric Bruntlett will continue to man shortstop until he is ready to return.
April 15, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is not in Tuesday's starting lineup. The reigning National League Most Valuable Player will miss his sixth game with a sprained left ankle.

Our View:The Phillies shortstop worked out with the team in pre-game drills, but still isn't able to run from first to third without issue.
April 14, 2008
The top goal for the team is to make sure that Jimmy Rollins' injury does not linger for the entire season, according to Philadelphia Daily News. Manager Manuel noted that he is hopeful that Rollins will be on the field tomorrow when the team opens a three-game series against the Astros. Rollins did some running in the pool, and will likely do some field work tomorrow that will test his ability to push off his left foot. Scott Sheridan noted, "We talked to Jimmy about returning. He seems to think he's definitely making some steps toward that. Certainly we'd like to make that our goal. But again, we have to treat the symptoms. If he comes in and feels great, we'll go with it. But we certainly aren't going to put him in a position to make this thing worse."

Our View:We will keep you posted on his status.
April 12, 2008
Updating an earlier report on the status of Jimmy Rollins, it now appears that he will also be given Sunday off as well because of his injured ankle, this according to MLB.com.

Our View:The Phillies have a travel day on Monday, so it only makes sense that the Phillies would give him another couple of days with the hope that he will be ready to go on Tuesday.
April 12, 2008
Jimmy Rollins will miss his fourth straight game on Saturday because of his injured ankle, this according to the AP.

Our View:On the plus side, Rollins did take BP and did some light jogging before the game which signals his return could be close.
April 12, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is going to be a game-time decision for Saturday's game, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. He stated on Friday that his injured ankle feels about the same.

Our View:He has missed three straight games due to the ailment, and Eric Bruntlett would make another start today at shortstop if needed.
April 11, 2008
Jimmy Rollins will not be in the starting lineup on Friday due to his injured ankle, the third straight day he has been on the bench, this according to the AP. Eric Bruntlett will continue to start at shortstop for the Phillies. April 11, 2008
Jimmy Rollins is optimistic on his anticipated return to the team, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Rollins commented on his injured ankle, "It feels better, in some ways." When asked whether he might miss the three games this weekend against the Cubs and return when the Phillies resume playing Tuesday against the visiting Houston Astros, he said, "Hopefully, I'm back tomorrow. But I'm a born optimist." Rollins is fine accelerating, but any significant lateral force is still causing him a lot of pain. Eric Bruntlett will continue to fill in at shortstop until he is ready to return.
April 10, 2008
Jimmy Rollins underwent an X-ray which came back negative, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Rollins said the X-rays he got on his sprained left ankle last night were a precautionary measure. He commented after last night's 5-2 loss that they came back negative. Rollins removed himself from the lineup before the game after testing the ankle on the field at Shea Stadium. He stated that he hopes to play tonight, and that he didn't think the ankle injury would linger, and added, "It's just sore, it isn't anything more than that right now." This is good news for the MVP shortstop.
April 9, 2008
Jimmy Rollins was scratched from Wednesday's game against the Mets due to a sprained left ankle, this according to the ESPN broadcast at Shea Stadium. The reigning National League Most Valuable Player suffered the injury in an eighth-inning pickoff attempt on Tuesday night. The All Star shortstop gives way to Eric Bruntlett tonight. Rollins started all 162 games last season, and while he was his name was on the card before first pitch, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel scratched his shortstop when he couldn't make a hard sprint from first to third.
April 8, 2008
Jimmy Rollins expects to start Wednesday despite the ankle injury that knocked him out of Tuesday's game, according to MLB.com. "My cleat got stuck," said Rollins. "I was more concerned about my knee popping if anything, but the ankle went. It's probably something day-to-day." Rollins went on to say that he could have stayed in the game. It sounds like he'll be good to go tomorrow.
April 8, 2008
