Rick Ankiel will be shutdown for a week in order to rest his ailing ankle, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:As Ankiel's injuries tend to do, this one has now lingered longer than expected. Stay tuned.
March 12, 2010
Rick Ankiel was scratched from the Royals' lineup today due to a sore right ankle, according to the Kansas City' Star's Bob Dutton.

Our View:No need to worry about anything here, as he should be back over the next few days. Brayan Pena filled his vacancy at designated hitter.
March 9, 2010
Rick Ankiel went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI against the A's in Cactus League action on Tuesday.

Our View:The former Cardinal is hitting just .250 so far this spring, however. He's worth owning in all AL-only leagues, but his value in mixed formats is very much up in the air.

The Royals have officially announced their signing of Rick Ankiel to a one-year, $3.25 million deal, according to the team's official site.

Our View:Ankiel will get $2.75 million this season and also has a $500,000 buyout on a $6 million mutual option for 2011. Ankiel will serve as Kansas City's starting center fielder and does have enough power to merit fantasy relevance, certainly in AL-only leagues.

Tim Kurkjian reported on ESPN on Friday afternoon that recently signed outfielder Rick Ankiel will be Kansas City's starting center fielder in 2010.

Our View:Scott Podsednik will start in left, David DeJesus will start in right and immovable object Jose Guillen will serve as the team's designated hitter. If Ankiel can stay healthy, he could be a sneaky option in deeper mixed leagues.

Rick Ankiel has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Royals worth $3.25MM, according to Tim Brown's (Yahoo! Sports) twitter page. It includes a second-year mutual option worth $6MM.

Our View:Ankiel only batted .231 with a .285 on-base percentage with St. Louis last season, and his power potential will be limited while playing his home games at pitcher-friendly Kauffman Stadium. It may take time for him to adapt to the AL as well.

A Rick Ankiel return to the Cardinals in 2010 would be a "long-shot," according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:With Matt Holliday, Ryan Ludwick, Colby Rasmus and Skip Schumaker all already in tow in St. Louis, the team simply wouldn't be able to offer Ankiel enough at-bats, not to mention the Scott Boras money he is seeking. The Pirates still seem like the former feel good story's most likely destination.

The Pirates are still very interested in signing former Cardinals outfielder Rick Ankiel, according to Fox Sports.

Our View:The Bucs want Ankiel to man right field next season. But for reasons unknown, Ankiel's agent, Scott Boras, appears to be playing hardball with the Pirates. A very odd strategy when your client is coming off of a season in which he hit .231 in 122 games as a team's fourth outfielder.
January 6, 2010
Rick Ankiel, Scott Podsednik and Randy Winn are all possibilities for the Royals in center field next season, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Our View:None are particularly appealing options, likely making them perfect for Kansas City. Wherever they end up this offseason, all three players will likely have to settle for one-year deals.
