Player Notes

Kiko Calero went from one AL West team to another as he signed on with the Texas Rangers on Saturday, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:Calero cleared waivers, was signed by the Rangers, and optioned to the Oklahoma Redhawk's. Calero has struggled with injury this season and has been limited to just 4.2 innings, but when healthy he can certainly be a valuable member of a bullpen.

Kiko Calero has been released by the Athletics, according to the AP. He was designated for assignment by the club back on June 19.

Our View:Calero only pitched 4.2 innings with the A's this season, and isn't likely to hold much fantasy value if he catches on with another club.
June 19, 2008
As expected, reliever Kiko Calero has been designated for assignment, according to the AP. Oakland activated Santiago Casilla from the DL, and viewed Calero as expendable to make room on the roster.

Our View:Calero only pitched 4.2 innings with the A's this season, and held no fantasy value prior to his designation.

A's right-hander Kiko Calero is expected to be designated for assignment as early as Wednesday to make room for reliever Santiago Casilla. If Calero clears waivers, he has enough service time to decline a minor-league assignment, but he's told the A's he would accept an assignment.

Our View:It would come as a surprise if Calero clears the wire. We can think of one New York team that could really use the veteran's services. Calero rehabilitated a torn rotator cuff rather than have surgery this offseason. He's only worked 2.2 innings this year, giving up a hit, two walks and two earned runs, while striking out an impressive four batters.

Kiko Calero has been activated from the 60-day DL, according to the AP. Lefty Lenny DiNardo has been designated for assignment as well.

Our View:He is trying to bounce back from a torn rotator cuff, and doesn't merit fantasy consideration. The reliever held a poor 5.75 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 40.2 innings in 2007.
May 24, 2008
Kiko Calero could come off the disabled list next week, according to the AP. The right-hander has yet to pitch this season because of a tear in his rotator cuff.

Our View:Calero is a solid reliever but is coming off a subpar 2007 season. He isn't worth a look in fantasy.
May 11, 2008
Kiko Calero threw one inning of relief for Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. It was his first rehab appearance as he comes back from a torn right rotator cuff. Calero is eligible to rejoin the A's on May 27, the Oakland Tribune confirms.

Our View:We don't expect Calero to have much fantasy value when he comes back. Huston Street, Santiago Casilla, Alan Embree, and Joey Devine are doing just fine for the A's bullpen.

The Oakland Athletics finalized their major-league roster today as plans are finalized for the opening-day trip to Japan, according to the Associated Press. As a result, RP Kiko Calero , SP Chad Gaudin, and 3B Eric Chavez will not be making the trip. OF Todd Linden and Carlos Gonzalez will also stay home.

Kiko Calero pitched off the mound for the first time this spring on Friday, this according to the team website. The right-handed reliever has been nursing a non-surgically repaired rotator cuff injury in his right shoulder and has been brought along slowly this spring.

Kiko Calero is working out, but he is behind the other pitchers in camp. Calero is coming off rotator cuff surgery. "He's on his own throwing program," manager Bob Geren tells MLB.com. "He's going to be behind as far as mound time."
