Freddy Garcia signed with the Tigers today, this according to SI.com. Garcia has not pitched since June of 2007 when he was with the Philadelphia Phillies, and has had his share of injuries. Where he fits into the Tigers rotation has yet to be determined.

Our View:It's obvious that the Tigers have not yet given up on the season. While Garcia wasn't considered one of the top-tiered free agent options -- he came cheap -- and has a reputation as a big game pitcher.

A day after auditioning for about 15 major league clubs in Florida, pitcher Freddy Garcia hopes to make a decision "quickly" on where he will be pitching for the rest of this season, his agent said Wednesday, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Agent Peter Greenberg told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that Garcia would prefer to sign a contract for the rest of 2008, show that he's fully recovered from shoulder surgery, then go on the open market as a free agent in November. Ideally, Garcia would like to pick his destination by the end of the weekend. Garcia, 33, pitched only 58 innings for the Phillies in 2007 before going down with season-ending shoulder surgery. Now that his rehab is almost complete, he's likely to be a popular target for teams that need pitching help and were unable to fill their needs by the trade deadline. The Red Sox, Yankees, Rays, Tigers, Rangers, Mets, Phillies, Astros, Brewers, Cubs, Rockies and Dodgers sent scouts to watch Garcia's workout at the University of Miami on Tuesday. It's believed that representatives from Florida and the White Sox were also on hand for his open audition.

The Houston Astros are interested in possibly signing Freddy Garcia but they aren't quite ready to offer him a contract, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Garcia came up as part of the Astros organization before he was traded in the Randy Johnson deal 10 years ago. He has spent about a year rehabbing his shoulder, and though he believes he could add something this season, he likely won't be able to make a difference until next season.

The Phillies are not interested in re-signing Freddy Garcia after watching him work out in front of several teams earlier in the week, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said, "He's got a ways to go. For us, I don't think we believe that he's a guy that could help us this year. He threw OK. The feeling is that he's going to come back, but he probably couldn't help us in September."

Our View:Amaro's comments are not encouraging, and Garcia should not be counted on to make a solid impact as a fantasy hurler when he joins a club later this season.

Free agent pitcher Freddy Garcia will toss two simulated innings for scouts on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reports. He is nearly one full year removed from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Roughly a dozen teams are expected to check out the performance.

Our View:At the best, Garcia would be signed quickly and make it to the majors in September. Fantasy owners shouldn't count on him to make a quick rise and be able to help their squads in a significant way.
