Player Notes
August 8, 2008
Francisco Cordero suffered a meltdown on Friday night as he allowed the Astros to beat him for four runs as he fell to 4-4 on the season.

Our View:This marked the third time in nine appearances that Cordero has been scored on, not a terrible number until you realize that he has allowed 11 runs in that time, a span covering just 7.1 innings (13.51 ERA). He Will hold on to the closers role, but this has been a brutal two weeks to watch.
July 21, 2008
Francisco Cordero blew his sixth save of the season on Monday. He served up two hits and three runs over 0.2 innings against the Padres. Cordero hurt his own cause by walking three batters. The closer has allowed seven runs in 3.0 innings since the All-Star break.

Our View:We're mildly worried at this point. Cordero has built up too much favor for us to panic after two bad outings. The walks are out of character, though.
July 17, 2008
Francisco Cordero had his worst outing of the season on Thursday against the never-say-never Mets. He managed just one out among six hits and four earned runs.

Our View:This was just Cordero's second loss but it was his fifth blown save. Needless to say, he just didn't have much tonight.
July 6, 2008
Francisco Cordero nearly blew his second save in as many days thanks in part to a Joey Votto error. After retring the first two batters in the ninth, the next four batters reached base, scoring two runs in the process. Cordero sturck out Wilson Nieves to record his 18th save.

Our View:Cordero's seen a lot of work lately. This was his fourth appearance in four games and his sixth over the last seven days. It's likely the hiccups are a result of over use. Owners need not panic. Just be happy the Reds are staying in so many games at this point in the season.
July 5, 2008
Francisco Cordero blew his fourth save of the year on Saturday, but his offense bailed him out leading to his fourth victory of the year.

Our View:Cordero has two saves and a win this week giving him a tone of value for those using him in head to head matchups. He should continue to serve as a top-10 closer the rest of the year.
