Vernon Wells had another two hits on Thursday night including his 16th home run of the year for the Jays.

Our View:Don't look now, but Wells is hitting .300 thanks to a stretch of 29 games hitting .330. His overall numbers will once again be disappointing because of his various injuries, but with a .300-16-66 line in just 340 AB, Wells has been one hell of a hitter when healthy.
August 30, 2008
Vernon Wells enjoyed a productive day at the dish as the Jays squeeked out the 7-6 win over the Yankees, going 2-for-4 with one walk and his 15th homer of the season, totaling two RBIs and two runs scored on the day.

Our View:Wells has been hitting the ball well, touting six homers and 20 RBI with a .313 batting average through August.
August 26, 2008
Toronto found the win this evening, putting Tampa Bay to bed 6-2. Outfielder Vernon Wells led the way on offense, going 3-for-5 with his 14th home run of the season to card three RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View:Wells has battled with durability issues all season long, but he has been red hot of late, going 9-for-14 with four homers, nine RBIs, and seven runs scored over the last three days.
August 24, 2008
Vernon Wells made his mark against the Red Sox this weekend. One day after getting four hits and driving in three, Wells went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, though the Jays lost to Boston 6-5.

Our View:Wells killed the Red Sox the last two games, going 6-for-9 with three home runs and six RBI. He is hitting .314 in August.
August 23, 2008
Vernon Wells went 4-for-5 with three RBI in Saturday's 11-0 win over Boston. He hit two singles and two home runs, and also scored four runs.

Our View:He snapped a four-game skid without an RBI and ended a seven-game drought without a home run.
August 13, 2008
The Blue Jays and Tigers fought through mundane performances on offense tonight, but give Toronto credit for getting the win on the one swing of worth they found this evening. Designated hitter Vernon Wells pounded a grand-slam homer in the top of the third, proving to be the winning runs scored in the 4-3 victory. It was the only hit Wells got on the night, going 1-for-3 with a walk.

Our View:Wells is struggling to find his power stroke (and health) this season, but tonight shows he is still a force to fear. He is 5-for-15 thus far this month.
August 10, 2008
Vernon Wells went 0-for-4 in his first game back from the DL following his recovery from a left hamstring strain, in Sunday's 4-0 loss to Cleveland.

Our View:He missed 26 games while on the shelf, and may need some time to shake off the rust and find his swing.
August 10, 2008
Vernon Wells returned to the Jays' lineup Sunday as a DH, according to TSN. The team optioned Kevin Mench to Triple-A Syracuse as the corresponding move. Wells was on the DL with a left hamstring strain, and missed 26 games.

Our View:Wells should be safe to return to fantasy lineups for the new fantasy week, and doesn't believe he will have many limitations in his first games back.
August 7, 2008
Vernon Wells will start a rehab assignment on Friday in Triple-A, reports the Toronto Star. He could be activated for the Jays weekend series in Boston.

Our View:Wells was having a nice year, with a .287 batting average and 42 RBI. He wasn't supplying quite as much power as fantasy owners would want, hitting just nine home runs, but maybe that will come when he gets back.
August 5, 2008
Vernon Wells could come off the disabled list as early as next week, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View:Wells hamstring rehab is right on schedule. Look for him to possibly DH his first couple starts back.
August 4, 2008
Toronto manager Cito Gaston doesn't expect Vernon Wells to return to active duty during the Blue Jays' seven-game homestand, this according to the team website. Gaston said that Wells could return to the lineup in Toronto's series at Detroit, from Aug. 11-14.

Our View:Wells suffered a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring and has been on the DL since early July.
July 25, 2008
Vernon Wells took batting practice with his Jays teammates for the first time since going on the DL with a hamstring injury, but he also revealed he had a torn tendon, according to TSN.com. "It's a tendon you don't need, it's the tendon they use when they reconstruct your ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). I almost kind of wished it tore and gotten it over with and not have any nagging injuries," he said.

Our View:Wells is trying to rehab the leg without undergoing surgery, though the leg is likely to bother him all year if he does that. Either way, this news means a downgrade in Wells' fantasy value.
July 10, 2008
The Toronto Blue Jays have placed outfielder Vernon Wells on the 15-day disabled list due to his strained left hamstring. The injury is expected to keep Wells out of action four to six weeks, according to the AP.

Our View:This is horrible news for Wells' owners, as not only will he miss four to six weeks, but hamstring issues tend to linger and this could effect his production throughout the rest of the season.
July 9, 2008
Vernon Wells left Wednesday night's game against Baltimore with a hamstring injury.

Our View:Wells suffered the injury during an attempted steal of third base. More on Wells when the information is available.
July 5, 2008
Vernon Wells hit his ninth home run of the year and stole just his third base of the season for the Jays.

Our View:Wells is hitting .296 over his last 12 games during which time he has driven in 11 runs as he continues to round into form since returning to the lineup.
July 2, 2008
Vernon Wells went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to Seattle. He hit two singles and a double.

Our View:Wells is hitting .444 (8-for-18) over his last four games, with one homer and four RBI.
June 28, 2008
The Blue Jays put the big win against Atlanta on the board today, taking the Braves down 9-5 on the offensive effort of outfielder Vernon Wells . Wells went 3-for-5 on the day, hitting his ninth double and eighth homer of the season to total three RBIs and one rusn scored on the day.

Our View:Wells hasn't been as hot with the bat this month as hoped, hitting .269 through June coming into today. Today's homer is the first he had hit since June 10th.
June 20, 2008
John Gibbons has reportedly been fired as the manager of the Blue Jays, according to Fox Sports. The club is in last place in the AL East. The Jays have also fired first base coach Ernie Whitt, third base coach Marty Pevey and hitting coach Gary Denbo.

Our View:Gibbons will be relieved by Cito Gaston, who won two World Series' while managing the team from 1989 to 1997.
June 14, 2008
Updating an unfolding story, Toronto is breathing a small sigh of relief as outfielder Vernon Wells appears to be ok after suffering a wrist injury in today's battle with the Cubs, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Wells was pulled in the eighth inning today as manager John Gibbons reports the outfielder was complaining of discomfort in the same wrist that put him out for a month earlier this season. The team reports he is fine and they hope to have him back in the lineup tomorrow.
June 14, 2008
Vernon Wells left Saturday's game against the Cubs after seven innings due to an issue with his left wrist, CBC Sports confirms. The Blue Jays did not say how bad the potential injury is. Wells broke his left wrist on May 9 and returned earlier this month.

Our View:We're awaiting further word and will let you know. Hopefully Vernon just has some soreness. After all, he did make a rather speedy recovery.
June 10, 2008
Vernon Wells is feeling just fine. The outfielder went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Tuesday night. He is 7-for-16 with a pair of long balls and a double in four games since coming off the DL.

Our View:Wells missed a month after breaking his left wrist, and we had some doubts about how he would swing after such a quick return. Fantasy owners should be very pleased.
June 8, 2008
The decision to activate Vernon Wells from the DL earlier than expected is already paying dividends. Wells had three hits, including a homer, in the Jays' 5-4 win over Baltimore Sunday. He has five hits in two games since coming back from a fractured wrist.

Our View:Players coming back from wrist injuries sometimes suffer from a power outage, so it's good to see Wells hammer a longball already.
June 7, 2008
Vernon Wells went 2-for-3 with an RBI against Baltimore on Saturday, in his first game back since sustaining a fractured left wrist. He collected a single and a double.

Our View:He wasn't scheduled to play today, as he is fresh off the DL, but was thrown into action when Shannon Stewart went down with an ankle injury. Wells is now seemingly safe to return to your fantasy lineups.
June 7, 2008
Star outfielder Vernon Wells has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. To make room on the roster, the team placed second baseman Aaron Hill on the DL, retroactive to May 30, due to a mild concussion.

Our View:Wells has recovered from his fractured left wrist ahead of schedule.
June 6, 2008
Vernon Wells could be back by the middle of next week, manager John Gibbons told the AP. Wells, who is working his way back from a fractured left wrist, went 2-for-4 with four RBI at Single-A Dunedin Thursday in his first rehab game.

Our View:Wells is on track to return well ahead of schedule. Here's hoping he doesn't have a setback over the next couple days.
June 6, 2008
There are plenty of Jays fans and fantasy owners monitoring the rehab progress of Vernon Wells and it seems he's somewhat a medical miracle, this according to Slam Sports. Wells, who fractured his left wrist May 9, is close to returning and far ahead of of his original schedule. Last night he began a rehab assignment with class-A Dunedin, just four weeks since the injury. The initial report was that he would be lost for six to eight weeks. "He could be back the middle of next week if all goes well," manager John Gibbons said yesterday. "I didn't expect him to do anything for six weeks."

Our View:Wells could return as early as Fantasy Week 11. The more conservative approach for owners would be to reinsert him into the starting lineup for Week 12.
June 5, 2008
Supporting a story by the AP yesterday, it does in fact appear that Vernon Wells is well ahead of schedule in his recovery from a broken left wrist and that he could return to the Jays lineup by late next week, according to MLB.com. "He could be back in the middle of next week or the end of next week, probably," said manager John Gibbons, who then smiled. "If all goes Wells. ... I didn't expect him to start doing anything probably until six weeks. What's it been, four? He's drinking his milk."

Our View:Though he appears to be on track to beat the original estimate, broken bones in wrists and hands are notorious for sapping batters ability to drive the ball. So be careful when activating Wells as it could take him a long while before he can once again hit the ball out of the yard.
June 4, 2008
Vernon Wells is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a broken left wrist, according to the AP. He is taking batting practice and could be back within 10 days, Gibbons said.

Our View:The return of Wells would be a huge lift for a Jays offense that has been barely good enough to keep the team within striking range of the Rays and the Red Sox.
June 3, 2008
Vernon Wells took batting practice Tuesday and manager John Gibbons said the outfielder reported no problems, according to the AP. Wells is coming back from a broken wrist.

Our View:Wells could possibly be back by the end of the month if all goes well.
May 24, 2008
Vernon Wells, who broke his left wrist making a diving catch in Cleveland on May 9, worked in the outfield with his teammates before Saturday's game against the Royals. The center fielder is expected to begin a rehab stint in Florida on Monday.

Our View:The estimated time of return for Wells is in late June or early July.
May 24, 2008
Vernon Wells, out with an injured wrist, will begin his rehab on Monday, according to MLB.com. Wells caught balls during batting practice on Saturday, but even that was a challenge. "I'm not used to my hand getting tired from squeezing the glove a few times."

Our View:Wells hasn't even attempted to swing a bat yet, and there is still no timetable established for his return to the Jays, though a best guess would be that he is still a month away from returning to the big league club. Wrist injuries often kill a hitter's ability to hit for power, so even when he does return don't be surprised if he fails to hit the long ball.
May 12, 2008
The Blue Jays' season suffered a head-on collision Saturday afternoon when an MRI revealed that Vernon Wells had suffered a fractured left wrist, this according to the Toronto Sun.

Our View:Wells, the Jays' center fielder and top offensive weapon, has a team-high 24 RBI and his presence in a struggling offense will be missed. He will be out for 6-8 weeks. Not only does this take some chunk out of the meat of the Jays batting order, it will have a negative effect on the players that typically hit before and after him. The loss of Wells at this point in time is particularly lethal, as he has been one of the few players in the lineup to have been producing at the plate. Wells was riding an eight-game hitting streak, during which he went 12-for-29 for a .414 average.
May 10, 2008
It has been determined that Vernon Wells has a broken left wrist, and he has been placed on the 15-day DL, according to globeandmail.com. Infielder Joe Inglett has been called back up from Triple-A Syracuse to cover his spot on the roster.

Our View:He will be on the shelf for six to eight weeks. This is a tough loss as Wells was leading the offense-deprived Jays with five homers and 24 RBI.
May 10, 2008
Vernon Wells will likely miss today's game against Cleveland due to his tight right hamstring and sprained left wrist, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The team did not state if Wells will miss any more games beyong today. Either Brad Wilkerson or Kevin Mench will get a crack at covering his spot in the outfield, namely against lefty hurler Aaron Laffey.
May 9, 2008
Vernon Wells jammed his left wrist while making a diving catch in the sixth inning of Friday's game and was unable to continue.

Our View:There was no word on how serious the injury was. The team is expected to make an announcement on Saturday.
May 8, 2008
Vernon Wells hit his fifth home run of the season in the ninth inning to help force extra innings in a game the Jays ultimately lost to the Rays.

Our View:Wells is hitting .279 with 24 RBI on the year, but after a quick start he hasn't really been much of a factor. His shoulder appears sound, and given that fact we would think that his production should be on the upswing soon.
May 5, 2008
Vernon Wells has a poor track record against Javier Vazquez, tonight's opposing hurler for Chicago, according to MLB.com. Wells is only 4-for-29 (.138) over his career against Vazquez.

Our View:Wells recently fell into a slump but bounced back as he is 6-for-11 (.545) over his last three games. Keep him in your lineup, despite a tough personal match-up against Vazquez.
May 3, 2008
Toronto enjoyed a strong outing from CF Vernon Wells in their 5-2 win over the Chicago White Sox today. Wells went 3-for-5 at the plate, all singles, to collect three RBIs.

Our View:Wells has been in the midst of a minor slump, going just 3-for-26 coming into today.
April 22, 2008
Vernon Wells socked a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to the Rays. It was his only hit in four at-bats.

Our View:Wells had gone 12 games without a homer, so it was nice to see him get on the board again. He remains off to a solid start following his down year in 2007.
April 21, 2008
Vernon Wells is not listed in Monday's lineup for the tilt against the Tigers. He is presumably just getting a day off. Alex Rios moved over to center field, and Joe Inglett is starting in right.

Our View:We'll update Wells' info if we find that he is ill or nursing an injury. Vernon has played in all 19 games thus far, and Monday's start is early.
April 13, 2008
Vernon Wells continued his hot start by going 2-for-4 with one run on Sunday against the Rangers. He added in a walk.

Our View:Wells has thus far bounced back even more than we would have expected.
April 11, 2008
Vernon Wells continued to slap balls all over the yard on Friday night as he totaled three hits, two RBI and two runs scored against the Rangers. Wells is now hitting .341 with 12 RBI through his first 10 games and he appears fully recovered from the shoulder issues that led to the worst season of career last year.
April 5, 2008
Vernon Wells had his swing working today as the Blue Jays put a 10-2 trouncing on the Boston Red Sox. Wells went 1-for-3 with one RBI (his 3rd of the season), two runs scored, and two walks. Wells is now hitting .278 after six games.
April 2, 2008
Vernon Wells gave fans and fantasy owners plenty to cheer about in Toronto's 5-2 win over the New York Yankees this evening, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run off Mike Mussina. Wells racked up two RBIs and two runs scored on the night, bringing his batting average to .375 on the season.
March 9, 2008
Vernon Wells' surgically repaired right shoulder appears to be nearing 100 percent. The All Star center fielder recorded four RBI Sunday as the Blue Jays defeated the Phillies, 9-4.
February 22, 2008
Vernon Wells took some batting practice thrown by Roy Halladay on Thursday to test out his surgically repaired shoulder, according to MLB.com. "I've taken a lot of swings and I'm just putting it through as many tests as possible," said Wells. "I'm swinging and missing. Obviously, I'm doing that on purpose just to see how it feels." Hopefully his shoulder won't slow him down once the season begins, so he can start swinging, hitting and improving the .245 batting average from last season.
