According to the St. Petersburg Times, Rays' reliever Brian Shouse has been cleared to resume playing catch. Shouse has been out since May with a left elbow strain.

Our View:Shouse's rehab appears to be on schedule, but it looks like he will still be out for a good amount of time. The fact that he has been cleared to throw is a good start, but he still has a long way to go before he will be ready to rejoin the bullpen.

The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that Brian Shouse has a slight tear in his flexor muscle. He is expected to be out for a while, but he should not need surgery.

Our View:This is kind of a good news/bad news situation for Shouse and the Rays. He should miss a good chunk of time, but anytime a pitcher can avoid surgery on his elbow it is a good thing. The timetable for his return is unknown at this point.

Brian Shouse has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Rays with a strained left elbow, according to TSN.

Our View:Shouse holds a 3.77 ERA over 14.1 innings of relief, with nine strikeouts and three walks. The lefty specialist won't be missed in fantasy leagues while on the shelf.
February 12, 2009
Brian Shouse signed a one-year, $1.35 million dollar deal with the Rays on Thursday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The Rays designated Juan Salas for assignment to make room for Shouse on the 40-man roster.

Our View:Shouse made 69 appearances for the Brewers last year, throwing just 51.1 innings with a 5-1 record. Shouse is really nothing more than a specialist at this point.
February 10, 2009
The St. Petersburg Times reports that reliever Brian Shouse's deal with the Tampa Bay Rays is "pretty official." The length of the deal is one year plus an option for a second, but salary figures won't be released until Wednesday.

Our View:Whenever the Shouse deal, which was originally signed 10 days ago, does become completely official, the Rays will be forced to make a move to clear room for the reliever on the team's 40-man roster.
