Player Notes
February 17, 2010
Washington general manager Mike Rizzo said he expects Ivan Rodriguez to play as many as 90 games in 2010, according to MASN.

Our View:That means Pudge would be on the better half of a platoon with Jesus Flores. Neither man is an attractive fantasy commodity, though owners in NL-only leagues might want to give Rodriguez a slight bump in value over Flores.
December 11, 2009
Ivan Rodriguez has officially inked a deal with the Nationals, according to Sports Illustrated. It is a two-year deal worth $6MM.

Our View:The 38-year-old vet would like to be a full-time catcher in 2010, but GM Mike Rizzo prefers him to share time with Jesus Flores. I-Rod is a 14-time All-Star, and should serve as a nice mentor for Flores as well.
December 7, 2009
According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, Ivan Rodriguez has agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal with the Washington Nationals.

Our View:Could it be his last ever contract? Pudge hit a career-low .249 in 121 games between the Rangers and Astros last season, but did manage to hit ten home runs to go along with 47 RBI, and should provide a marvelous veteran presence to a very young Nats pitching staff. It's hard to imagine this was his first choice, however, and Washington will be his fifth team in the past three seasons.
December 5, 2009
Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times states that the Rays are not interested in signing Ivan Rodriguez. It was previously believed that the Rays were interested in the veteran free agent backstop.

Our View:The Rays recently acquired Kelly Shoppach, and Dioner Navarro appears to still be in the mix at catcher for now. The Royals, Giants and Rangers remain interested in I-Rod.
December 5, 2009
The Royals, Rays, Rangers and Giants are among the teams to have expressed some interest in free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View:Pudge still wants to latch on to a team where he can start and catch the majority of the team's games, but at 38, that just isn't going to happen. He can still produce in a platoon role, but it's unlikely he'll be worth drafting heading into next year, although we'll have to wait and see who signs him before making a full assessment.
