Mike Lowell was scratched from the Red Sox's lineup on Sunday with a sore right thumb. Lowell could have played, but the team decided another day of rest would be more beneficial.

Our View:Lowell was in the lineup originally, but manager Terry Francona talked him out of the lineup. The team wants Lowell to be healthy for the postseason, so it was a good move to keep him out today.

The Boston Herald reports that Mike Lowell was scratched from Saturday's game against the Indians due to a sore right thumb.

Our View:It's unknown how Lowell suffered the injury, but it was sever enough to keep him out of the lineup. Kevin Youkilis will slide over to the hot corner and Casey Kotchman enters the game to play first base.

Mike Lowell received an injection in his ailing hip today, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:The plan is for Lowell to rest for a few days, with the intention of taking some at-bats before the start of the playoffs. He missed the ALCS last season and underwent offseason surgery on his right hip.
