According to WEEI.com, Mike Lowell's ailing hip is improving after having fluid drained from it and after receiving an injection of lubricant.

Our View:Lowell will suspend all baseball-related activities until Monday and then begin rehabbing the hip aggressively. He is expected to be ready to return from the DL when first eligible (after the All Star break).

Red Sox' beat writer Amalie Benjamin is reporting on her Twitter page that the Red Sox have placed third baseman Mike Lowell on the 15-day DL. He will be replaced by Jeff Bailey on the roster.

Our View:The Red Sox brought Bailey along with them to Baltimore earlier today, which signified the coming move. Lowell shouldn't need more than the 15 days, but check back when it gets closer to that time.

Mike Lowell had fluid drained from his surgically repaired hip today, and also received an injection to relieve the inflammation, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The Sox will wait a few days to see if the treatment helped relieve the problem, or if he needs to spend time on the DL. Skipper Terry Francona hinted that Lowell will not be ready to go when the Sox battle the Orioles Wednesday, and he should be held out of fantasy lineups until further notice.

According to MLB.com, injured third baseman Mike Lowell received a shot in his ailing hip and likely won't see any action until Wednesday at the earliest.

Our View:The shot Lowell receives is not a cure-all and reacts differently for everyone, but the team is hoping it has positive effects. Keep Lowell on your bench for the time being and hope that he doesn't land on the DL.

Once again Mike Lowell is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Braves, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:Lowell is still banged up and it looks like the Sox are fine keeping him on the bench during the NL series. When inter-league play ends he'll likely get back in the lineup. Kevin Youkilis will start at third base.
