Yankees pitcher Jason Johnson has been confined to working indoors since his arrival at New York's spring training facility, and now we know why. The New York Post reports that Johnson has been diagnosed with retinal cancer of the right eye. "I went to the eye doctor to get a new pair of contacts and they found it," Johnson said. "They put a radiation plaque on my eye for four days. They told me it has a 98 percent success rate. I can't pitch outside for two weeks. I can see but not real well."

Our View:This is merely a small bump in the road for Johnson, who has battled diabetes. In fact, he was the first pitcher granted permission to wear an insulin pump on his belt during games.
January 6, 2009
Jason Johnson has signed a minor league deal with the Yankees, according to the Journal News.

Our View:Manager Joe Girardi noted the righty will compete for the fifth spot in the Yankees' rotation. He held a 1.50 WHIP over 29.1 innings with the Dodgers in 2008.
August 3, 2008
Jason Johnson, making his last start as he will be replaced in the rotation by Brad Penny on Friday, wasn't able to last five innings before being removed on Sunday. On the afternoon, Johnson allowed three runners in 4.1 innings to pick up a no decision.

Our View:Johnson's numbers (2.60 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) look much, much better than what you see when you actually eyeball him on the hill. Unless he is starting, his value is limited to extremely deep NL-only leagues.
July 20, 2008
Jason Johnson pitched three innings in relief on Friday, but remains on schedule to start against the Rockies on Tuesday, according to the LA Times.

Our View:Johnson is worth a look in larger NL-only leagues for Tuesday if you need help, but shouldn't expect much from the 35-year-old hurler.
March 24, 2008
Non-roster invitee, right-hander Jason Johnson , was reassigned to minor-league camp, this according to the Orange County Registry. The roster move leaves the Dodgers with 44 players on the big-league side, 23 of those still being pitchers. Johnson was with Cincinnati in 2006 starting 20 games and finishing with a 3-12 record. He has no fantasy value, and doesn't look to anytime soon.
