The Tigers told Sean Casey Saturday that he would not be brought back next year. "For me, this has been the greatest year and a half of my career," Casey said in the AP. "I just appreciate being over here. I've got nothing but great memories here. When I look back on my career, this will be some of the greatest memories I have."

Sean Casey was surprised to read that he was among several Tigers fighting the flu, the AP reports. "I feel fine, but I saw in the paper where I was sick," Casey said. "I have no idea where that came from." Casey is hitting .291 on the year, though the rest of his stats fall far short of what you expect from a corner infielder (.388 slugging, three homers in 358 at-bats).

Sean Casey left Sunday's game in the sixth inning with a left elbow contusion. He suffered the injury when he was by a pitch in the third inning, according to the AP. X-rays came back negative, but it's still unclear if Casey will be forced to miss any time with the injury.

Sean Casey was out of the lineup for the second straight day on Monday due to flu-like symptoms, according to the AP. It's unclear when Casey will be ready to return to action. Marcus Thames once again started at first base in Casey's absence on Monday.

Sean Casey missed Sunday's game with flu-like symptoms, the AP reports. Marcus Thames got the start at first base in his place, going 1-for-4 with a homer. "It's some kind of contagious thing, so we got him out of here," manager Jim Leyland said. "We'll see tomorrow if he'll be able to play. Right now, I don't know."
