The Tigers re-signed Sean Casey to a one-year deal on Thursday, according to the AP. "Sean did a good job after joining the club, and he was tremendous during the World Series," Detroit president and general manager Dave Dombrowski said. "We're happy to have Sean back and look forward to having him for an entire season. A true professional, he brings a solid left-handed bat to our lineup." Casey batted .245 with five homers and 30 RBI in 53 games after getting dealt to the Tigers last year.

Sean Casey filed for free agency Tuesday, according to the AP. Casey had a sizzling post-season for the Tigers (.432 average), but he hit just .245 with a .364 slugging percentage for Detroit in the regular season, and the team would like to add more power at the corner position.

"Sean is walking totally pain-free, normal gait," trainer Kevin Rand said. "We put him in the pool, he was jogging in the pool and also biking today. Sean Casey has a partial tear in a muscle in his left calf and could miss the rest of AL championship series against the A's, according to the AP. He injured himself in the sixth inning of Detroit's win in the series opener and underwent an MRI exam Wednesday that showed the small tear. "The trainers are hoping for a miracle when they say possible by the end of this series," manager Jim Leyland said before Game 2. "But I think that's probably not going to happen. So I think we'll just have to do with what we have."

"He had a shooting pain that was really bothering him," Pirates manager Jim Tracy said. More should be known about his status today, but clearly it looks like he will miss some more games.
