The Pirates reached a deal to acquire first baseman Sean Casey from the Reds in exchange for lefty starter Dave Williams. The trade is pending physicals for both players. Although Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati is considered a good hitter's park, Casey hit substantially better on the road in each of the last two seasons. He hit .330 away from home last year and .361 in 2004.

Reds interim manager Jerry Narron confirmed that Sean Casey will not play again this season. Casey was knocked unconscious for about 20 seconds and sustained the third concussion of his career on Sept. 16. Casey is still suffering from dizziness.
