Sean Casey was activated from the 15-day DL on Friday according to the Providence Journal. However, despite first baseman Kevin Youkilis' unavailability, Casey is not starting. He will be available to pinch hit. He was on the disabled list due to a bad neck.

Our View:If Youkilis' injury (back) is serious, Casey would be the likely choice to start at first base. He is hitting .345 in 59 games this season. Mark Kotsay has started at the position recently.

Sean Casey's neck ailment is improving, and he may be able to return to the Red Sox on Friday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Casey has been taking fielding and batting practice, and if there are no setbacks, he'll be ready soon. Fantasy owners will not get a whole lot out of him, however, as in 165 at-bats, he has no home runs and just 12 RBI, despite his .345 average.

Our View:The move is retroactive to August 20. Mark Kotsay looks to be the backup first baseman, but that could change during September call-ups.

Sean Casey aggravated his stiff neck while trying to hit Tuesday, and hasn't played since last Thursday, but the team plans to wait out his injury and are not considering placing him on the DL at this time, according to the Boston Globe.

Sean Casey is getting a rare start at DH tonight. He is batting .371 in 116 at-bats this season.

Our View:Casey has been an excellent spot-starter/pinch-hitter for the world champs. With David Ortiz on the mend, he has been a savior.

Sean Casey's opportunities to hit in the Red Sox lineup continue to thwarted by the lack of health of Manny Ramirez's hamstring that is forcing the left fielder to hit in the DH slot, according to MLB.com. "It's lingered," manager Terry Francona said. "It's one of those things where if somebody says something hurts, you can't sit there and tell them it doesn't.

Our View:Casey has just four AB in the last 14 Sox games, rendering him as completely useless even in AL only leagues of late. When a guy is hitting .358 in 106 AB, you would think his team would find a way to get him a few more AB.
June 23, 2008

Sean Casey has been activated from the DL, according to the Boston Herald. He has recovered from a right hip strain. Pitcher Julian Tavarez has been designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Casey.
