Player Notes
January 7, 2010
After 13 major league seasons, left-handed reliever Scott Eyre has retired, according to MLB.com. In 649.1 career major league innings, he posted a 4.23 ERA and struck out 537 batters.

Our View:Eyre surely could have latched on somewhere next season after posting a 1.50 ERA in 2009, but the Phillies only wanted him for a minor league deal, and he only wanted to pitch for the Phillies. Don't be surprised if he calls off his plans next summer if the right deal comes along, though.

Left-handed reliever Scott Eyre, an important part of Philadelphia's back-to-back National League pennants, is not expected to return to the club in 2010, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Eyre posted sub-2.00 ERAs in both of his seasons in Philly, but had trouble staying healthy, pitching just 44.1 combined innings. Being left-handed, though, should guarantee him multiple offers this offseason.
November 12, 2009
Phillies' relief pitcher Scott Eyre filed for free agency on Thursday, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Todd Zolecki.

Our View:Eyre recently had surgery to remove floating bodies from his left elbow, but it was a minor procedure and he is expected to be ready to pitch before long. He is contemplating retirement, but he would like to return to the Phils for another season.
November 6, 2009
Scott Eyre underwent surgery today to remove floating bodies in his left elbow, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The 37-year-old reliever pitched with the injury over the final month of the season. He will resume his career with the Phillies or will hang up his cleats.

Phillies' reliever Scott Eyre was walking without a limp in the clubhouse on Monday, according to the team's Twitter page. Eyre worked out and threw with coaches and looked good.

Our View:Eyre said he would be able to go today if called upon, and it looks like he was right. he made it through all tests administered by the coaches, so don't be shocked to see him come out of the pen tonight. Of course, with cliff Lee pitching the Phils might need anyone to come out of the bullpen.
