Jacque Jones has decided that he won't report to Triple-A an instead will take his chances on the free agent market, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Jones had only 37 AB while wearing a Marlins uniform hitting .108. Jones figures to catch on somewhere, but as his rough ride this year has proven, his value lies in being a platoon bat, thereby limiting his fantasy impact.
June 17, 2008
Jacque Jones cleared waivers and has been out-righted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, according to FishStripes.com. He was previously designated for assignment by the Marlins.

Our View:Jones has not decided whether to accept the minor-league assignment or become a free agent, however.
June 12, 2008
Jacque Jones has been designated for assignment by the Marlins, according to MLB.com. The team recalled infielder Robert Andino from Triple-A Albuquerque as an adjoining move.

Our View:The 33-year-old left-handed hitter was brought in to platoon with Cody Ross in center field, but Jones hit just .108 (4-for-37) with two RBI in 18 games for the Marlins. He has 10 days to clear waivers, which would make him eligible for free agency.

The Marlins are using Jacque Jones and Cody Ross in a center field platoon, the Miami Herald reports. Jones is facing right-handed pitchers, and Ross is starting against southpaws.

Our View:This news shouldn't surprise NL-only fantasy owners who are using either player. The Marlins center field job will likely be a rotating venture until Cameron Maybin proves he is ready.
May 23, 2008
Jacque Jones will be added to the Marlins roster prior to Friday's game against the Giants, the Miami Herald confirms.

Our View:Jones presumably spent a few days getting his feet wet before being activated. Either that or he couldn't find his way out of Detroit. Anyway, Jones will have some value in NL-only leagues once he gets comfortable in Miami.
May 19, 2008
According to the Palm Beach Post, the Marlins will eventually start Jacque Jones in center field. The job currently is being shared by utility player Alfredo Amezaga and outfielder Cody Ross. Combined, they are hitting .216. When Jones joins he team, infielder Robert Andino is likely to be sent back to Class AAA Albuquerque. Amezaga would go back to being a reserve infielder with Cody Ross a reserve outfielder.

Our View:Jones will have value in NL-only leagues but isn't a mixed league option.

According to Fox Sports, the Marlins have reached agreement with free-agent outfielder Jacque Jones . Jones will take a physical Monday morning. He initially will report to extended spring training in Florida to get back into playing shape then return to the majors as a fourth outfielder and left-handed hitter off the bench.

Our View:Once Jones is ready to join the Marlins, he likely will take the roster spot of either outfielder Brett Carroll or infielder Robert Andino, adding to a bench that generally includes infielder Wes Helms and outfielder Cody Ross from the right side.

Reports indicate free-agent outfielder Jacque Jones is close to signing with the Florida Marlins, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Negotiations between the Marlins and Damon Lapa, Jones' agent, are in "advanced discussions" according to the MLB report. Jones was released by Detroit and would give the Marlins a much-needed veteran presence to compete for time in center field.
May 17, 2008
Jacque Jones cleared waivers Thursday morning and could be a Marlin as soon as today, as leaked by an industry source who has spoken with team officials, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Damon Lapa (Jones' agent) said, "We've started some dialogue with a number of clubs. Ever since he technically became free there's been an uptick in intensity. He's weighing all his options."

Our View:Jones, formerly of the Tigers, can play all three outfield positions and would give the Marlins additional veteran depth with Josh Willingham out with a back ailment.
May 16, 2008
Jacque Jones officially became a free agent Thursday after being released by the Tigers, according to MLB.com. The Marlins are known to have interest in the outfielder.

Our View:Jones could help out in left and center, but is he really better than what the Fish already have?
May 13, 2008
Despite ongoing rumors of a pending trade, the Detroit Tigers have waived OF Jacque Jones , according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Jones has struggled in his first season with the club, hitting just .165 with one home run and five RBIs over 24 games. The team had designated him for assignment on the 5th of this month, but today have chosen to place him on waivers.
May 13, 2008
Jacque Jones wants to play for the Marlins, according to the Sun-Sentinel. He was recently designated for assignment by the Tigers. The Tigers have until Friday to trade or release him. Either way, they are on the hook for what's left of his $5.5 million salary (about $4.05 million). Any team that acquires him would make the Tigers pay much of the remaining money.

Our View:Jones can play all three outfield spots, and would give the Marlins another veteran left-handed bat off the bench and a candidate to bat leadoff and start in center against right-handers (although he did not have any stolen bases over 24 games with Detroit this season).
May 6, 2008
The Florida Marlins have made an official inquiry to the Detroit Tigers about OF Jacque Jones , according to MLB.com.

Our View:Jones was recently designated for assignment and is now a potential trade target for a few teams in need of a speedy outfield presence. The Marlins are hoping to inquiry about a potential deal and could have a swap in place later this week. We will update as news becomes available.
May 5, 2008
Jacque Jones has reportedly been designated for assignment, according to MLive.com. The Tigers also purchased the contract of outfielder Matt Joyce from Triple-A Toledo.

Our View:Jones had just one hit in his last 29 at-bats, and he was hitting .165 with one home run and five RBI in 24 games. Joyce was hitting .299 at Toledo, with five homers and 21 RBI in 28 games. Manager Jim Leyland stated that changes were coming to shake up the offense, and Jones proved to be a casualty due to his poor play.
April 25, 2008
Jacque Jones, who left Thursday's game with a left knee contusion, is back in the Tigers Friday starting lineup.

Our View:Jones is hitting sixth and playing left field as the Tigers host the Angels.
April 24, 2008
Jacque Jones was forced out of action in the fourth inning against the Tigers today due to a left knee contusion, according to the AP. X-rays were negative, and Jones is listed as day-to-day.

Our View:Ryan Raburn moved from third base to cover his spot in left field. Brandon Inge could also fill his spot in the outfield if he is to miss time.
April 10, 2008
Jacque Jones will ride the pine in favor of Marcus Thames in left field, according to the Boston Globe. Jones isn't hitting well, and has a poor track record against Tim Wakefield, today's opposing pitcher for Boston.
April 6, 2008
Jacque Jones has a poor track record against Sunday's starting pitcher Mark Buehrle, according to MLB.com. Jones only has one hit over 27 at-bats against Buerhle in his career.
