Ramon Hernandez is believed to be on the Orioles' trading block, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:Hernandez has a $8 million contract for 2009, with a $8.5 million option or $1 million buyout for 2010. He is a smart defensive catcher, but his declining offensive numbers leave a bit to be desired.
September 22, 2008
Ramon Hernandez had two hits in four trips to the plate on Monday night to boost his average to .258 for the Orioles.

Our View:Hernandez is hitting .289 over his last 50 games, and while his 15 home runs and 64 RBI aren't huge totals, he remains one of the better power options at the catchers spot with at least 15 home runs in four of the past six seasons.
September 9, 2008
Ramon Hernandez made his first career start at first base on Tuesday night. He was shifted after third baseman Melvin Mora was a late scratch due to a sore hamstring. Hernandez had made six career appearances at first base prior to the night.

Our View:Hernandez may not quite be ready to make the career-prolonging move to part-time first baseman, but he's getting there.
August 20, 2008
Baltimore catcher Ramon Hernandez did his part in the 11-6 win over Boston tonight, going 1-for-3 with his 13th homer of the season, totaling three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View:Hernandez has been fairly consistent this season and continues to provide quality offensive numbers at the position. However, after five homers in July with 14 RBIs, he has just one in August with 11 RBIs.
July 21, 2008
Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double, homer, two runs, and two RBI against the Jays on Monday. He is 6-for-14 with two homers and six RBI in four games since the All-Star break.

Our View:Hernandez was a disappointment over the first half of the year. It's too soon to get excited about only four games, but his mini-surge is nice to see.
July 19, 2008
Ramon Hernandez hit a game-tying solo homer off the Tigers' Joel Zumaya in the ninth inning Saturday. It was Ramon's second hit of the game, which was won by the O's in the 10th.

Our View:A lot of people like Hernandez to bounce back this year. It hasn't happened, but hopefully this will get him turned in the right direction.
July 12, 2008
The Baltimore Orioles suffered a troublesome loss against the Boston Red Sox this evening, falling 12-1 with a total of three hits by the entire team. Only catcher Ramon Hernandez emerged as an offensive note, going 1-for-3 with his eighth homer of the season to total one RBI and one run scored.

Our View:Hernandez has struggled in July, going 8-for-35 coming into tonight. This was his first homer since June 30th.
July 2, 2008
The Orioles found the offense needed to give a strong pitching performance the support needed to garner the 5-2 win over the Royals, an effort largely pushed by catcher Ramon Hernandez . Hernandez went 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles and one RBI to show for the effort.

Our View:Hernandez showed signs of life with an improved batting average of .273 through June, and after going 2-for-4 last night with tonight's performance bolstering the streak, Hernandez now has hits in each of his last five games, including two home runs and six RBIs over that span.
July 1, 2008
The Orioles failed to match their opponent, the Kansas City Royals, in the hits column, yet the few hits they earned were good enough to earn the 7-5 win over the Royals. The charge was led by Ramon Hernandez , going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View:Hernandez improved to a batting average of .273 through June with three home runs and nine RBIs. He hopes to keep the upswing going and got off to a good star tonight.
June 25, 2008
Catcher Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-4 in the Orioles 7-5 victory over the Cubs on Tuesday. Hernandez has a hit in 13 of his last 17 games, and has raised his batting average from .218 on June 2 to his current .243.

Our View:The 32-year-old Hernandez is no longer a fantasy commodity, but he could be useful for a spell should he continue to hit.
June 19, 2008
Ramon Hernandez hit a solo home run helping the Baltimore Orioles execute a sweep of the Houston Astros with a 7-5 win on Thursday night.

Our View:Hernandez hasn't produced as expected, but his fifth home run of the season and the Birds winning streak is keeping the restless happy in Baltimore... for now.
June 2, 2008
Ramon Hernandez could be in danger of losing his starting spot to Guillermo Quiroz. "I'm all for what's best for the team," manager Dave Trembley tells MLB.com. "I think you have to give respect to the veteran guys who have been here and have played for a long time, and I think you have to go the extra mile before you go to that measure. But once you go to that measure, I think you communicate that to all concerned parties and you move forward." Hernandez is hitting .22 and has thrown out only nine of 53 base stealers.

Our View:Fantasy owners were counting on a bounceback season from Hernandez, but it hasn't happened yet. At some point, the Orioles need to think about the future. Hernandez is 32, Quiroz is 26, and there's a significant salary difference.
May 16, 2008
Ramon Hernandez is expected back in the Orioles' lineup tonight against Washington, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:He has missed five games due to a sore left wrist, and was believed to be battling the pain for a couple of weeks. He should remain on your bench until he proves he can be effective, as he holds a poor .215 batting average over 32 games.
May 14, 2008
Updating a previous report, Ramon Hernandez has been pulled from Wednesday's lineup because he felt more soreness in his left wrist while swinging a bat in pre-game warm-ups, the Baltimore Sun reports. Guillermo Quiroz will start in his place.

Our View:The O's are off on Thursday, and hopefully the rest will work wonder for Hernandez. He has been dealing with this pain for a couple weeks, which is not a good sign.
May 14, 2008
Ramon Hernandez is listed as the starter for Wednesday's tilt against the Red Sox, according to the Baltimore Sun. The backstop hasn't played since May 9 due to a sore left wrist.

Our View:Hernandez isn't quite out of the woods yet, as this injury has plagued him for a couple weeks. Fantasy owners can feel free to use him, for now.
May 13, 2008
Updating an earlier report, the Orioles are also without catcher Ramon Hernandez this evening as they face the Boston Red Sox, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Hernandez is nursing a sprained left wrist. He received a cortisone shot to relieve inflammation and the team reports the wrist has bothered him for a couple of weeks. However, the team does not anticipate placing him on the disabled list.
May 12, 2008
Ramon Hernandez missed his second straight game on Sunday due to his sore left wrist, according to the Baltimore Sun. Hernandez is concerned, and said he has been dealing with wrist pain, which increases significantly when he turns his hand while swinging a bat, for around two weeks. He tried to play through the ailment, but decided before Saturday night's game that it hurt too much to grip a bat. He said he expects to see a doctor today in Baltimore. Hernandez added, "I've got to check it out, because you know that's the hand I had surgery on in 2005."

Our View:Hernandez is listed as day-to-day and said he hopes to avoid the DL. Manager Dave Trembley said he expects to have Hernandez available for tomorrow's game against Boston. We will keep you posted on his status.
May 11, 2008
Ramon Hernandez did not play on Saturday due to soreness in his left wrist, the Baltimore Sun reports. Guillermo Quiroz started in his place. Hernandez is day-to-day.

Our View:Don't be too surprised if Hernandez also sits on Sunday, as the Orioles are off on Monday and that would provide a nice three-day rest.
April 28, 2008
Ramon Hernandez homered off Scott Linebrink in the top of the 11th inning in Monday afternoon's game against the White Sox. The Baltimore catcher now has three home runs and 13 RBI on the season.

Our View:The game was suspended because of rain with the score tied at 3-3. The contest will resume later this season, but no date was immediately announced. All statistics from Monday will count.
April 19, 2008
Ramon Hernandez had two hits, two RBI and a run scored from the eight hole on Saturday night.

Our View:Hernandez has looked lost at the plate in the early going, and even with the hits tonight he is still hitting only .192. He has only four K in 52 AB, so at least he is making contact.
April 12, 2008
Ramon Hernandez finally awoke from his early season slumber with two hits and two RBI, including his second home run of the season, on Saturday night.

Our View:This big night still leaves him with just a .194 average, though with seven RBI in 11 games he has still found a to knock in a few.
April 5, 2008
Ramon Hernandez led the way in Baltimore's 7-4 win over the Seattle Mariners. Hernandez went 3-for-4 at the plate, hitting his first home run of the year. That brings the catcher to a batting average of .273 on the year.
February 15, 2008
Manager Dave Trembley has been raving about Ramon Hernandez, who showed up to camp in terrific shape. "He expects to have a big season and we expect that, too," Trembley said in the Baltimore Sun. Trembley added: "I asked him to come here in shape and he has. Just from the first two games that he's been here, he's got a little more bounce in his step. I think he understands that this is a big season for him." Hernandez dealt with injures and had poor production last year, but he seems primed for a bounceback campaign.
February 13, 2008
In his quest to bounce back from a disappointing season, Ramon Hernandez has shown up to camp in tremendous physical shape according to the Baltimore Sun. "I really concentrated this off-season on working out. Even when I went home, I was working out. I've been taking my vitamins and I need to help my body rebuild. You just have to keep working and hopefully you'll come in here and stay healthy." Hernandez lost about 10 pounds and he is eager to return to the 23 HR, 91 RBI form he posted in 2006 and not the disappointing player he was last season when he was limited to just nine HR and 62 RBI.
